Playing Good Defense on Heisman
I read a few weeks back about people having ALOT of trouble stopping defenses on Heisman difficulty (me included). But i have figured a few things out. I play as Purdue and been practicing by playing AT Ohio State. I run for the most part purely Cover 2 Man with the # CBs matching #WRs. When i first started the games ended like 42-17 OSU, but now games end like 24-7 me.
* Gameplan on Defense and place most to conservative (except DL rush...i make that aggessive). Use this to just focus on tackling and being in right position, & NOT giving up the big play.
* Do NOT press coverage, just leave your DB alignment alone.
* I slide the LB to the strong side (side with main TE).
* I slide the DL to the weak side (side opposite LBs), and i slant them torward the strong side.
* I usually try to manually strip the ball whenever i can, but the comp controlled players just focus on the tackle.
* If they get me 1 v 1 in the open, i DONT sprint and just focus on the tackle.
* Just stay focused on NOT giving up a big play....let them chip away and they will eventually make a mistake.
* Learn to move the ball, and controll time on offense.
I went from starting 2-5 (with losses to Toledo, Northwestern, & Minnesota), to finishing 9-5 (with wins against #1 Wisconsin, #12 Michigan State, #8 LSU (bowl game), & #24 Michigan).
Once i stopped trying to be so aggresive (as i always was on previous versions) and focused on just not givin up the big plays. I started shutting teams down. It isnt AS fun, because turnovers arent as much, but it is fun by not having to play 45-42 games.
