Re: Where Did The Speed Go?

That's pretty much where they should be. Since speed progresses, which is how it should be, as they get better teaching and can perfect their form, maybe one or two players every 4 or 5 years should come in with a 95+ speed rating.

Re: Where Did The Speed Go?

I'm not going to blast anyone for wanting more unrealistic speedsters in the game because that's just what we've come to expect because that's how EA has always done it.

With that said, I've noticed the new system is so much more realistic. I love seeing so many different backs ratings wise. I recruited a 4-star HB who was 6'0" 237 pounds. He only had 80 speed, 78 agility and 89 acceleration. His break tackle and carry ratings were very high and he's been one of the best backs I've ever recruited. Numbers wise, he's the slowest, but he doesn't 'play' that way. He averages about 6 YPC and most of those yards come after contact. I love it.

Re: Where Did The Speed Go?

I think they got it pretty realistic with the speed. It kills me when people think just because a RB, WR, etc is highly rated they should automatically come in with 90+ speed rating. Every player would feel the same then...I love how they balanced it out this year.

I agree. I play on slow speed with the threshold at 25. The game plays great as far as speed wise.

I got a 4* back that is like you guy. He is 5'11" 228lbs with 84 speed and 93 acc and he is a beast. As a RsSo he has finshed 3rd for the Walker, 4th for the Heisman, and has over 3,000 yds in 2 years. I was not a running team until I got him.
Like you said EA has trained us into thinking that a player with a speed rating in the 80's is useless. They started last year with Madden changing the way they do ratings. I like it. It makes things more like real life.

Re: Where Did The Speed Go?

I have to agree that it is where it should be. It is completely unrealistic to have a bunch a freshmen coming in every year with speed in the 90s.

Within a few years all your skill players will have speeds in the upper 90s. It would be like an NFL team playing in college.

This would make the game more like an arcade game.

The variety in the game is very good. I love how I have to labor over whether to take a 5 * vs. a 4* HB where the 4* has superior speed and the 5* may have superior overall skills.

A 4* WR has speed but a 5* has superior catching.

And this works for every position.

This is the way it should be.

Re: Where Did The Speed Go?

While I agree with those who say that the rating for other things beside speed seem to finally matter in the game which is good. But, with the speed numbers coming from the linebacking core, slower speed running backs does make things very difficult. RBs should not be slower then every LB on the field, but since LB's are coming in at 94-99 speed on a regular basis it does tilt things in favor of the defense.

A little balance would go a long way here. I dont feel that RB's should be faster, but I do feel that LB's should be slower.

Here is a breakdown for all the 4 & 3 star LB's in one of my classes. LB's and HB's are pretty even, but HB's still have a slight speed and agility advantage while LB's have a slight acceleration advantage.
