Why would anyone EVER trade their video games in? That kind of stuff makes zero sense to me. You're better off keeping every game you buy.

I'm with you on that on. I remember I had bought Spider-man on ps2, new from Gamestop and it was a load of crap. So like 30 min laters I went back to trade it in and the guy was trying to give me like 15 bucks for it. $15 BUCKS! on a 30 min old game. Ever since then; I never traded in a game.

I actually think the drop off is Sunday or Monday, but definitely if you wait till NCAA 12 is out, you're not going to get hardly anything for the game.

Uhm, no. You're honestly not better off keeping every game you buy.

I keep a lot of games I buy. I also always replay any game that I keep.

Sports games always get traded in for me when I'm done playing them. I basically consider sports game purchases merely rentals. I know I'll be paying another $60 for the next year's game when that comes out, and I know once I do that I'll definitely never be playing the previous year's game any more.

So even if I only get $20 from Gamestop for it in February, I still payed $40 for a 8 month rental. $5/mo isn't bad compared to what you'd pay at Blockbuster or something (I think, but I don't know. I never really rent games.)

The alternative is that I don't sell the game back. Now I still play the game for the same amount of time (about 8 months before I'm completely moved on to other games), yet I've paid $60 and not got $20 back for trading it in. $7.50 a month. It's still not terrible, but it's worse than trading it in.

I mean, honestly, if you KNOW you're never going to play the game, why would you NOT take the $20 for it?

I still have all of my copies since NCAA Football 2003 and I plan to keep on collecting.

Re: What should I do with my copy of '11?

Also, you guys have to realize something about the trade-ins...

Yea, if you buy it on Day 1 for $60 and try to then sell it back on Day 2, you're going to lose $30-35 dollars. Gamestop will give you $25-30 for it, and put it on their shelf marked at $55. It may seem like a rip off (it's actually not), but they're still paying $25-30 for that game 3 months later, 6 months later. It's normally not until January/Februaryish that it drops to $20-25, and then it will drop to $15ish like April. By this time of year, it may still be $15ish, but after the next one releases, you're lucky to get $10.

The used price drops as the buyback price drops.

And yea, there's a bit of a markup on used games, but you have to understand... Gamestop would almost definitely go out of business without their used business.

The markup on New Games is less than $5, and the markup on consoles is basically $0.

If you feel like you're getting ripped off on the buyback prices, then you probably aren't visiting your gamestop often enough to make use of the bargains you can get buying used games.

What is the point of keeping a game if I don't play it anymore? For instance I haven't played NBA 2K11 in about 2 months, so instead of letting sit in my house collecting dust and getting lower in value I took it to Gamestop and got $18 in trade in value for it towards NCAA 12. I play many different video games, so it makes total sense to me to trade in games that I no longer play. Let's say that I trade in 10 games for an average of $18, I've saved $180 just by getting rid of games that I no longer play.

So tell my why it doesn't make sense to trade in games that no longer get played?

I think you'll get something like $5 for NCAA 11 now. I'll let you guys know for sure tomorrow, I'm going to trade it in. I got no use for it, and I need every dollar I can get!
