A 12.5% increase in quarter length should increase the game time 12.5%, right?

So I'd say 1:25-1:30 is a better estimate for your new game time.

I have been using 8 minutes but I might move it to 10.

Re: Quarter length

if you want to match sim engine stats with your ingame stats i beleive 10 min is the sweet spot.
9m will get a shorter game but you will get less plays than Sim engine does.

Re: Quarter length

Always do 8 minutes. May do longer when I start a dynasty as an OC.

Re: Quarter length

I may have to bump up to 10 minutes. As I said, I always chew clock on offense so normally control TOP. I coached a game with 9 minutes last night and only had about 110 plays total. This was with me chewing clock and the other team running a normal tempo.

I sim a few games every season because it would take too long to play every game.

Re: Quarter length

The other thing people should look at is the rate of the plays. There is no point in trying to get 130 plays a game if the teams are getting 25+% yards a play more than average... unless of course the team you play as is capable of that in real life (Hawaii for instance). This is why it's hard to find the sweet spot. OU is probably the best test, but then you have to run a fast paced offense to match it. TCU is another good choice as they chew the clock as much as anyone. If over several games against non no-huddle teams you could get close per play stats and number of play stats to them, you're good, and I bet that happens at 10 minutes... might try it myself in coach mode in a while.

Re: Quarter length

just take 3 or 4 sim games, sum all plays for both and then play some games and see how much plays do you have.

playing 10 min i get from 125 to 145 same as sim games

That's a good point, I think I'll have to give 9 minutes a shot.

For you guys who say you're getting accurate number of plays with 10 minutes, wow, you really must be running that play clock down to nearly nothing each play. I can't do that myself, I call my plays a bit quicker than that.
