Re: Would anyone want Editable Rivalries?

I definitely want editable rivalries. I haven't played NCAA in a while but I'm guessing for Michigan State it's still Michigan, ND, Indiana and Penn State for rivalries. Indiana and Penn State are simply rivalries because of trophies, there's zero hostility there. On the other hand MSU-Wisconsin has been a rivalry in basketball for awhile now and is becoming a good one in football too, I would like to be able to add that into the game.

Re: Would anyone want Editable Rivalries?

Instead of rivalry levels you could simply designate teams as rivals giving themselves and yourself a rivalry meter (think cold to hot). If the rivalry becomes one sided then the rivalry could cool off making the game appear as though it's just another game, and if the meter heats up then every measure should be taken to give the game some crazy atmosphere. The reason why I say each team in a rivalry should have it's own meter is because occasionally a rivalry becomes more important to one school than to another and it would be great to represent that since breaking a losing streak to a rival is often more emotional than adding to a current winning streak. This would make it easier to set up trap games during the season especially if the meter is tied to ratings and momentum (assuming ratings matter).

Re: Would anyone want Editable Rivalries?

i dont know if i want editable rivalries but i want evolving rivalries.

For example. I always have a San Jose St dynasty (i like building up programs) well once I leave the WAC and into the Pac 12, I want to be rivals with Cal and Stanford (i actually think stanford is one of theres, now to think about it) and then USC too once I reach that top level. but it never happens and takes a vital non conference game out of my schedule to make sure i play a rival for recruiting.

Re: Would anyone want Editable Rivalries?

I'm not in favor of editable rivalries as much as I am dynamic rivalries. I don't think people should just be able to go into settings and be like "yeah, okay, we're rivals now." I think there should be some hidden setting somewhere that keeps track of how intense the rivalry is with a points system.

For example:
5 points for playing each other
10 points if the game is on national TV
20 points if the game is within a TD
20 points if the game is within a FG
10 points for overtime
25 points if both teams are in the top 25
25 points if both teams are in the top 10
50 points if both teams are in the top 5
25 points for each post-season game between the teams
30 points for being in the same conference and playing each other
20 points for being in the same state and playing each other

Obviously, there are kinks to work out, but that's about how I envision it.

And then if you got a certain amount of points over a certain amount of time, like, say, 500 points over 5 years, a rivalry would develop. And then you'd have to earn a significantly lower amount, like 25 points in the last 5 years to maintain the rivalry. But the key to this working is that the user wouldn't be able to know what the point count was. Otherwise, it wouldn't work. Because, in 9/10 cases, when a rivalry happens, it just happens. There's no announcement. There's no moment when you can look back and say, "Okay, here's where these two teams started hating each other." It just...develops. And if EA assigned a numerical value to all of that, it would be ruined.

Why not? I mean we buy the game, why should it matter what we edit. If I want Lafayette and LSU to be rivals all of a sudden, I payed $65 why shouldn'tI be able to do this?

Re: Would anyone want Editable Rivalries?

You're talking about implementing some crazy system which would only end up getting criticized and picked apart when a simple solution is leave it up to the user and make it editable

Of course! The more customization, the better.

I believe that rivalries influence recruits more and the game keeps a second tally against rivals in addition to your schools regular overall record.
