Re: Do the stats (40, BP, SQ) even matter?

I did some testing last night scouting 20 players fully. Here's a chart to use:

SQT-S = Squat for skill players
SQT-L = Squat for Lineman and Linebackers

Also to clarify what each is for.....
40: is the speed rating
BNCH: is the str rating
SQT-S: is tackle for defense and break tackle for offense, this is skill players.
SQT-L: is tackle for defense and run block for offense, this is lineman and linebackers.[/quote]

From what I saw, the 40 times presented are relatively accurate. If you look up a guys 40 on the chart, then if his letter grade for speed in his skills page is higher than the corresponding letter grade from the chart, he has a pretty good chance to see his speed increase after you scout him. As for bench press/strength I didn't really see a correlation. But for squat I saw the strongest correlation. It lines up nearly perfectly with a players tackling or run blocking rating after scouting. I had a different chart I was using when testing that didn't have the squat equivalents for skill players, so I can't confirm if those we're correct, but I think they're pretty close. I just found this chart this morning and it has separate squat numbers for skill players. Hope this helps.

Re: Do the stats (40, BP, SQ) even matter?

I've also noticed that a higher squat number, especially for linemen and linebackers, tends to translate into more gems than busts. A higher squat tends to translate not only into strength, but also acceleration, too. I don't know if it's simply a placebo effect or not, but this is what I've noticed.

Either that, or I just got lucky one year and I'm just recruiting to nothing. Regardless, it's something worth looking into if you're trying to better assert where gems come from.

So how does the chart work exactly? The line where the 40 time is 4.34 shows a bench press of over 500. I've seen a bench press on a DLine at 500, but his 40 time wasn't 4.34. How do I compare him to that line stating he would be an A?

you're reading it wrong. It shows the stats the correlate to a specific rating. For example, for a 94 rating in speed, he would have to run a 4.34 40-time. For 94 rating in strength he would have to bench press 515 lbs, etc. make sense now? The 94 rating isn't an overall rating, its just the rating for a specific attribute (strength, speed, etc).

to be clear, if the 40 time and speed letter rating dont match up, which one is likely to be true?

From what I've experienced. The 40 time tends to be more accurate than the letter rating.

Re: Do the stats (40, BP, SQ) even matter?

This chart has been right on for me.

I've guessed the rating to the exact number (ie, 89 speed, 90 tackle, etc) from the instructions he gave.

Thanks !

Re: Do the stats (40, BP, SQ) even matter?

So are the ratings that are reflected by the 40 times, bench press and squat the only ratings that can fluctuate from their Letter Grade? Do the other ratings like Play Recognition, etc that are not influenced by 40, bench and squat stay true to the letter grade shown?
