Re: Do ratings matter in this game

Ratings absolutely do matter. I am in year 4 of my dynasty and the previous year I had a excellent line where my lowest rated player was a 82 freshman RT. I could run excellently against most teams and rarely was stopped behind the line. I also had very few sacks.

This current season however is different; all the guys from last year (save for that RT) have either graduated or went pro. The RT is now a 88 and my best lineman. And my running game is noticeably worse (same RB btw). Previously my linemen could block at the second level after coming off the double team. Now I see unblocked LBs tackling me near the line. Through 3 games I have been sacked 11 times

I also lost my best WR who was 95 ovr and route running was 97. He has been replaced by a 89 ovr WR with 99 speed, agi, and acc but route running of 82. Now certain routes (the basic ones) the kid does fine, but many routes there is a noticable drop off. Even though he is faster, he does not get as open as the guy from last season.

Cool. Didn't even know that.

This question is like asking the Pope for all of the mysteries of the church. You will never get an answer.

I don't have the game yet but plan to get it soon and this is important info to know since I only coach with cpu vs cpu enabled. So for this "momentum thing," can this option be turned off or tweaked? Also, there is still coach mode right? Haven't played NCAA since '12 or '11.

That's what I thought initially as well. But even after halftime, he just seemed sluggish compared to the much lower-rated backup.

As an update, that backup has 450 yds rushing over three games behind a garbage O-line and against better teams (I'm playing as Old Dominion, so almost every team is better). He's got the "hotstreak" label, and might make a legit push for the Heisman.

90% of the ratings don't matter in the game.

Key Ratings that don't matter
Run Block- can run on anyone with anyone
Jump
route running
man coverage
zone coverage
hit power
finese move
power move
blk shed: primary in run defense.

ratings that matter
speed
agi
acc
thp
tha
cth
spn

everything else is arbitrary fluff

Fatigue and stamina matter as well, I can verify a db with 99 catching and 99 spectacular catch DOES NOT matter. He still will drop balls. However a WR with these same ratings he hardly ever drops balls. Its like some of the offensive ratings only matter and are registered by the game when you are on offense even though a defensive cb can have the same thing

ball carrying doesnt matter(for the CPU at least)
I made manziel have a 0 ball carry rating and he never fumbles

Re: Do ratings matter in this game

There is a similiar thread in the Madden Forum, so I'll mention what I said there. I think for years now that EA Football has become convaluted with under the hood algorithims like momentum, chemistry, hot/cold streaks etc...and who knows what else. Not to mention the wonky slider side effects that most ratings are either nerfed or overridden all together. Just a theory at least.
