Question with number of conference games

If I set up an 11-team conference, will there be a 10-game schedule of conference games where everyone plays each other once?

Or does this work only for a 10-team conference?

An 11-team conference will play 8 conference games. There will be 3 teams you don't play every year, but you never really know who those 3 are beforehand.

There are 2 teams you don't play, not 3, since you never play yourself obviously.
