Online updates are hardly pointless. I know NCAA Football 2004 would've played a lot better if EA were to release a midseason update for many of the players such as TTech QB BJ Symons and LSU DE Marquise Hill. It only makes sense, but who knows if EA's programmers will ever take the time to actually do it. Afterall, their hardwork is done once the game is finished and it's hard to believe that they'd try to release an update when they're not getting paid for their extra work. And everyone knows they couldn't charge for the upgrade for obvious reasons.

It is pointless as the roster names would have to be completely redone. Then you would get into NCAA issues with players - ie updating them based on reality.

So free or not, its a waste of time as most gamers with the ability to get the update would not want it as they would be the same gamers with the "roster names."
