I belive the rating also appears in Road to Glory mode if you click on the player's skill thing.

When you run your sim, can you check and see if there is a correlation between the importance rating and if players either leave early for the pros or decide to transfer? I'm curious if "importance" means how important the player thinks he is, and this might be a way to test that theory.
Yea, I just open the roster/dynasty file in an external editor on the computer and export a *.csv file for analysis in Excel, SPSS, or whatever. I will look at that. But I will say, I believe that the field for a player drafting is in a different table than the Importance and other ratings. It is probably still feasible though.

Re: What does the "Importance Rating" that players have mean?

While I don't know what Importance still means, I did notice something related to Importance tonight:

I've been busy working on porting tools and rosters for Playstation 2 and PSP NCAA Football and while fixing some bugs, and trying to figure out why skin tones are messed up on certain players, I found this interesting...

I did a conversion of PS3 to PS2 rosters using a tool I made that has a combination of conversion tables, formulas, and random generators based on known variables. Anyway, I imported it into my roster and loaded it up in the game. I went to a few select players and just opened their editor screen but did not do anything to it. Then let it do whatever it did (in this case, recalculate overall and fix skin issues on its own), and then saved it. After saving, I pulled out the roster database csv for the new save, and compared it directly with the old one on the players I viewed in the game.

4 variables changed:
Skin Tone (as seen in the game)
Overall score (as seen in the game)
Tendency (didnt look if this changed in the game)
and IMPORTANCE (also didnt look if this changed in the game)

Anyway, dont know if this helps at all, but it looks like Importance (and tendency) is calculated from the attributes that are associated with each player like Overall score is.

The overall is expected to change because the calculation should be diff from PS3 to PS2. Apparently so is Importance and Tendency.

Re: What does the "Importance Rating" that players have mean?

So this is after a single simulated season. The average Importance ratings by positions were essentially unchanged at the close of the season. The average Importance ratings by class were also essentially unchanged at the close of the season. I declined to look at rating averages by team.

I lack the time (and energy) to go through the table below at any depth. I am unsure why there are two 'Transfer (Playing Time)' rows. Numerically, each is a distinct nominal value but I got the labels from the Modding thread on the main page. I am also unsure how seniors are able to 'Stay in School' (i.e., that average cell should be blank at least for non-red shirt seniors). I think, when I have some more time, I will sim additional seasons--maybe 5 or 6--and then reexamine positional average Importance ratings.
