So I know this is a stupid question but I haven’t played this game in a few years. Just recently bought a PS3 and this game to play again because I hate Madden and I need my football fix. How do you promise something to a recruit again?

To my knowledge, you can't make any promises in recruiting. The only promises that can be made are to players who are considering going pro or transferring, and can only be made during the "Players Leaving" stage.

In “12 it was part of the recruiting process. Playing time, draft promises, championship - even playing in your home state were on the table.

In “14, I’ve never seen it as part of the recruiting process - only when trying to persuade players to stay and not go in the draft

They took out the promises feature in 14. The only promises you can make is to stop people from leaving early.
