Game adds 3-star recruits to my team that I didn't recruit?

Maybe this has always happened but I never picked up on it. I was testing out a new recruiting house rule and ended up with a good place but with less players signed than usual. Looking at my final board, I had 15 players committed. There were six 5-stars, six 4-stars and three 3-stars.



However, when I look at the Signing Day results, it says I had 21 players and has six more 3-star players on my team.




I never even scouted those guys and never got any alerts about signing them. I've actually reflected back on my dynasty and had noticed random 3-star guys I never recruited on my team but I figured they were really good walk-ons and not actually guys that the computer assigned to me randomly.

I don't have any recruiting assistance turned on. Does anyone know how to eliminate this from the game? Is this normal behavior? I'm trying to make recruiting HARDER for me, not get free players that I didn't recruit.

This happens at the end of every season. Unless you fill all 25 slots, the CPU has additional players sign with you.
I recently got a 4 star receiver which, it turned out I really needed after a couple Juniors left.

That's pretty wild. I guess I never picked up on it because I was almost having a full recruiting class.

I wonder if these are guys that they create on the spot or guys that were available but not recruited elsewhere.

These players are available in the recruiting process. When you cut down below the minimum at a certain position, the game will create a "walk-on" for you.

I noticed usually these players are lightly recruited and have your school listed in the Top 3 or even the top choice. They'll go through the whole recruiting period and keep you in the top spot(s), even though you haven't scouted or spent any recruiting points on them.

If you have scholarships available, the game will automatically sign/assign them to your school.

If you keep testing it, you'll notice that eventually you'll steal other teams players. It'll show players on your team even though it shows they committed to other schools. During an ECU dynasty I randomly had two players assigned to my team who were both Tulane commits.

I had this same thing happen to me a bunch of times with 3-star players, mainly because I don't fill my 25 scholarships.

I don't think it's just when you drop below the minimum; I think it's a random process for the players that you are in their top few.

Last season for instance I returned 8 WR and still got 2 of these "walk-ons". But one of them I had on my board as a backup option for most of the season. And in general, it seems like 2-3 of my "backup" options end up being these "walk ons" every year.

Whoa. That's wild. Man, I kind of wish you could like turn this "feature" off in some way.

For me, I'm in Year 14 of my dynasty and I had very few recruiting house rules so I just became a bit too good in my mind and always had a 25-man #1 recruiting class. I wanted to tone it down to try to let other schools get good players and all so it stinks that they'd still poach people from other schools even if I have a smaller class.

I turn it "off" by cutting all of the players that I didn't offer scholarships to. Just write down your commitments and then cut any new freshman that weren't on the list.
