Is it possible to sim the friendly matches when playing the qualifying round?

It's not. I ended up forfeiting a load of mine just to get past them. You can choose 'Qualifying' instead of 'Full' to do it without the friendles.

does doing the "Qualifying" option allow you to play in the World Cup after you qualify though?

I was unsure of this. I thought it said in-game that you can chose to play the world cup finals, full (which is qualifying and finals), or qualifying (which is just qualifying). I don't know whether that is correct though.

Yes, if you select "Qualifying" you get to play in the World Cup final tournament if you qualify.
