TNK - Boston Bruins Franchise

Game #10 of the season
Philadelphia Flyers (4-5-0) @ Boston Bruins (4-1-4)

The Bruins started their 4th line to begin the game and the move paid off as David Backes gained the line and took a slap shot that was turned away by Elliott but Chris Wagner was driving to the net and slammed the rebound past Elliott for his 1st goal in a Bruins uniform to give Boston a 1-0 lead just 49 seconds into the game. The rest of the 1st period was evenly played as both teams brought their physical play and quality scoring chances were hard to come by as the the shots were even at 8-8 after 20 minutes of play with the Bruins up 1-0 at the intermission.

Philadelphia had a great chance on the opening shift of the 2nd period but Jaroslav Halak turned away a one time by Giroux and then flashed the pad to rob Van Riemsdyk on the rebound to keep it a 1-0 game. The teams traded powerplay chances midway through the period with the neither team able to cash in on the man advantage and the score remained 1-0. Philadelphia would get on the board with 7:45 to play in the period as Travis Konecny was a force down low, got the puck back to Hagg who slid it over to Jori Lehtera and his shot from the high slot beat Halak to tie the game at 1-1. Brian Elliott made his biggest save of the night as he robbed Marchand on a breakaway with just under 4:00 left in the period. The Flyers would snap the tie when Wayne Simmonds blasted a one timer past Halak for a powerplay goal to give the Flyers a 2-1 lead with 1:41 remaining in the period. The 2nd period would end with Philadelphia now leading 2-1 despite being out-shot by the Bruins 25-16 through 40 minutes of action

The Bruins would enter the 3rd period trailing 2-1 and in need of a strong effort in the final 20 minutes as they attempt to come from behind. The Flyers almost extended their lead early in the 3rd period when Nolan Patrick made a nice move on Carlo to get into a shooting lane and beat Halak with a wrist shot but nailed the crossbar and the puck and the puck stayed out of the net keeping the score 2-1. The Bruins shuffled the forward lines a bit midway through the period trying to find an offensive spark as Pastrnak moved down to the 2nd line with Krejci and Debrusk while Anders Bjork bumped up to the 1st line with Bergeron and Marchand. Travis Sanheim would go off for slashing to put Boston on the PP with 9:56 remaining as the Bruins look for the equalizer. The Flyers were seconds away from killing off the penalty to Sanheim when Samuel Morin was called for tripping to give the Bruins two more minutes of PP time. The Flyers PK unit came up huge as they killed off the back to back powerplays to protect the 2-1 lead as the clock ticked under 5:00 to play in regulation with the Bruins pressing to try and pull even. Boston would get Halak to the bench for the extra attacker in the final minute and had good pressure in the offensive zone but could not get the puck past Elliott who made a flurry of saves in the final 20 seconds as the Flyers escape with a hard fought 2-1 victory

* The Bruins suffer just their 2nd regulation loss as they lose to the Flyers by a score of 2-1 and fall to 4-2-4 on the season

* The Flyers got goals from Jori Lehtera and Wayne Simmonds late in the 2nd period to turn a 1-0 deficit into a 2-1 lead that would hold for the final score

* Brian Elliott allowed a goal 49 seconds into the game and then he slammed the door closed with an outstanding performance as Elliott would stop 36 of 37 shots to earn the victory

* Jaroslav Halak stopped 19 of 21 shots in net for Boston

* Chris Wagner scored his 1st goal in a Bruins uniform

* The Bruins will remain at home for their next game against the Montreal Canadiens who will come to TD Garden as the two rivals square off for the first time this season. Montreal comes in with a record of 4-3-2 on the season

Re: TNK NHL19 All-Star Sliders

What's up TNK. Have not purchased the game yet but have been following along with your slider thread as always and it looks like you have the game playing great again this year. Is this a big step above 18 other than the skating changes that would warrant a purchase in your opinion? 19 is on sale for $30 now so was going to pick it up. Thanks

Re: TNK NHL19 All-Star Sliders

Not sure if it’s playing on superstar or the sliders or a combo of both but it feels like my AI players are in much better position. They get in front of the net for deflections, they find open space in the slot for one-timers. Superstar definitely feels different this year, but in a good way. Previous versions the CPU would go into beast mode on superstar, this year it seems to make them play smarter which is perfectly fine with me. I’d rather lose to a cpu team that outsmarts me, as opposed to a team that just relentlessly pounds you with shots and makes ridiculous plays.

Boston Bruins (3-0-2) @ Calgary Flames (4-1-0)

The Bruins take their 3-0-2 record on the road where they begin a 4 game road trip with a tough test in Calgary against the Flames who are off to a 4-1-0 start to the season in what should be a good matchup between two teams who are playing well to begin the season. Boston would open the scoring 6:02 into the game when Pastrnak fed Patrice Bergeron on the rush and his wrist shot broke through Mike Smith and trickled over the line to give the Bruins a 1-0 lead. The Flames started to take control of the play midway through the period and generate some chances but Tuukka Rask was sharp in the Boston net. Chris Wagner dropped the gloves with Mark Jankowski with 5:00 to play in the period in a spirited bout. The Flames would kill off a Boston PP late and the 1st period would come to an end with Boston up 1-0

The Flames came out buzzing to begin the 2nd period and Sean Monahan would tie the score less than 2 minutes in as he buried the rebound after Rask stopped the initial shot from Hanifin and the score was tied 1-1. The Bruins had some tough luck as both Krug and Chara rang the posts with slap shots and the score would remain tied 1-1. Calgary would go on the PP midway through the period with Pastrnak in the box for a slash but Rask came up huge robbing both Neal and Gaudreau with key saves and the Bruins would kill off the penalty keeping the score tied 1-1. The Flames were starting to take over in the late stages of the period and exploded for two goals in a span of 35 seconds as Mark Jankowski blasted a one timer past Rask to make it 2-1 with 5:31 to play in the period and then James Neal finished off a feed from Gaudreau with 4:56 remaining in the period to give Calgary a 3-1 lead. The Bruins would get a huge goal with 2:13 left in the period as Pastrnak made a slick move to beat a defender and slid a pass to Brad Marchand who snapped the puck past Smith to cut the deficit to 3-2. The 2nd period would conclude with Calgary leading 3-2 despite being out-shot by Boston 26-19.

The Bruins would enter the 3rd period trailing 3-2 and in need of a big effort in the final 20 minutes. Boston had a couple chances early in the period but could not convert as Mike Smith denied Marchand who walked in alone and John Moore hit the post with a rocket. Moore was called for holding to put Calgary on the PP and the Flames would cash in in the final seconds of the man advantage when Matthew Tkachuk intercepted a Brandon Carlo pass and fired the puck to Elias Lindholm who went to the backhand and beat Rask for a huge goal to extend the Flames lead to 4-2 with 9:36 to play. The Bruins were pushing hard in the final 9:00 and throwing everything they could at the net but Smith was up to the task and the score remained 4-2 as the clock ticked under 3:00 to play. The Bruins would pull Rask to the bench for the extra man in the final minute but could not score and the game would end as the Flames defeat the Bruins 4-2

* The Bruins suffer their first regulation loss of the season as they fall to the Flames in Calgary by a score of 4-2. The Bruins drop to 3-1-2 on the season while the Flames move to 5-1-0

* The game turned when the Flames got a pair of goals from Mark Jankowski and James Neal just 35 seconds apart late in the 2nd period to turn a 1-1 tie into a 3-1 lead that they would not relinquish

* Mike Smith stopped 35 of 37 shots in net for Calgary including a number of high pressure saves in the 3rd period with Boston on the attack as they attempted to come from behind

* Tuukka Rask allowed 4 goals on 28 shots in the loss

* The Bruins goals came from Bergeron and Marchand in the losing effort

* The Bruins will be back in action tomorrow as they look to bounce back in Edmonton as they take on the Oilers at Rogers Place in the 2nd game of this 4 game road trip

TNK - Boston Bruins Franchise

Game #11 of the season
Montreal Canadiens (4-3-2) @ Boston Bruins (4-2-4)

The Bruins and Canadiens square off for the first time this season as the historic rivalry is renewed at TD Garden with the Bruins sporting a 4-2-4 record while the Canadiens come in at 4-3-2 on the season. The early stages of the 1st period were a pretty uneventful as both teams were cautious and feeling each other out leading to many safe plays and few scoring chances. The Bruins would get the games first powerplay with 13:04 remaining in the period. Boston had great puck movement and set up a number of quality looks but Carey Price was sharp in the Montreal net and the game would remain scoreless. Montreal had a great chance with 7:00 left in the period when Paul Byron turned on the jets and broke in all alone but hit the post with his shot. The Canadiens would get a PP opportunity when Jake Debrusk was called for boarding with 1:39 to play in the period. Boston would get the games first goal though as Sean Kuraly would skate the puck out of the defensive zone and send it to Chris Wagner who gave it right back to Kuraly who was denied by Price on the initial stop but Kuraly would collect his own rebound and fire it past Price for a shorthanded goal to give Boston a 1-0 lead with 1:14 remaining in the period. The Canadiens PP unit had great pressure in the final 30 seconds of the period but the Bruins were able to escape the period with a 1-0 lead. Boston out-shot Montreal 13-5 in the period.

The Canadiens would go on the PP just over 5:00 in to the 2nd period with Marchand in the box for tripping but the Bruins PK unit did a fantastic job to kill it off and keep it a 1-0 game. Boston would go on a PP of their own a few minutes later when Max Domi was called for slashing and it turned into a 5 on 3 advantage when Lehkonen was called for tripping with over a minute to go on the penalty to Domi. The Bruins cashed in just 18 seconds into the two man advantage as they set up in the zone and David Pastrnak blew a rocket of a slap shot past Price to make it 2-0. The Bruins still had 1:42 of PP time but were unable to extend the lead and Montreal would return to even strength. The Bruins would extend their lead late in the period when Anders Bjork used his speed to get in on the forecheck and would dig the puck loose and find Danton Heinen in the slot for a one timer that beat Price upstairs to give Boston a commanding 3-0 lead with 3:39 left in the period. The 2nd period would end with the Bruins leading 3-0 and in complete control as Montreal was struggling to get any offense going with just 9 shots to 22 for Boston

The Bruins would enter the 3rd period with a 3-0 lead after dominating the opening 40 minutes of play and will need to be prepared for Montreal to come out with their best effort after such a poor performance through two periods. Brendan Gallagher was injured early in the 3rd period on a crushing hit along the boards by Zdeno Chara. Montreal would get on the board midway through the 3rd period when Jonathan Drouin set up Artturi Lehkonen for a goal to cut the Boston lead to 3-1 and make things interesting with 10:28 to play. The goal seemed to spark the Canadiens who were suddenly flying and generating their best pressure of the night. Tuukka Rask came up with a huge save as he robbed Max Domi going post to post for his biggest stop of the game to keep it a two goal game as the clock ticked under 5:00 to play with Montreal trying to pull within a goal. The Canadiens would get Price to the bench for the extra attacker in the final minute but time would run out as the Bruins win 3-1

* The Bruins delivered one of their most complete performances of the season as they dominated the Canadiens in all three zones on their way to a 3-1 victory to improve to 5-2-4 on the season

* The Canadiens were dismal in the first two periods as they mustered just 9 shots through 40 minutes of action before putting together a solid effort in the 3rd period but it was too little too late

* Tuukka Rask was solid in the Boston net stopping 16 of 17 shots to earn the victory

* David Pastrnak, Sean Kuraly and Danton Heinen scored the goals for Boston with Pastrnak scoring his 5th of the season and 99th career goal as his next will be career goal #100.

* Kevan Miller was inserted into the lineup in place of Matt Grzelcyk on defense. Miller played a solid game and was a physical presence on the back end

* The Bruins will hit the road for a brief two game road trip beginning at PNC Arena in Carolina where they will face the red hot Hurricanes who are off to a tremendous start to the season with a record of 9-1-1

TNK - Boston Bruins Franchise

Game #12 of the season
Boston Bruins (5-2-4) @ Carolina Hurricanes (9-1-1)

The Bruins are in Carolina for what should be a very tough road test as they take on the 9-1-1 Hurricanes who have been the hottest team in the NHL to begin the season and are currently on a 9 game winning streak. The Hurricanes wasted no time showing why they are the leagues hottest team as they scored just 1:47 into the game when Teravainen finished off a nice feed from Svechnikov to take a 1-0 lead. The teams traded PP opportunities midway through the period but neither team was able to capitalize. The Bruins would get on the board with 8:35 to play in the period when Kevan Miller took a pass from Chris Wagner and passed the puck across the blue line to John Moore who wound up and blasted a one timer past Mrazek to tie the score at 1-1. The Bruins were on the powerplay as the period would come to an end with a little bit of time that will carry over to the 2nd period as the teams go to the locker rooms tied at 1-1 with Boston holding a 11-6 edge in shots

The Bruins came out with some jump in their legs to begin the 2nd period and would take the lead 5:02 into the period when Jake Debrusk and David Krejci came in on a 2 on 1 and Krejci would finish off a slick feed from Debrusk to give Boston a 2-1 lead. The Bruins were in control until a bad turnover from John Moore who made a poor decision and had his pass intercepted by Michael Ferland who walked in alone and stuffed home his own rebound for an unassisted goal after Rask made the initial save and just like that we had a 2-2 game with 8:10 to play in the period. Boston would respond two minutes later on a great rush up the ice from Torey Krug who skated the puck end to end and hit a streaking Anders Bjork with a bullet pass cross ice and Bjork roofed the puck over the shoulder of Mrazek for a beautiful goal to give the Bruins a 3-2 lead with 6:10 remaining in the 2nd period. Carolina went on the PP with 3:51 left in the period and had a couple good looks but Rask was there for the timely saves and the Bruins would kill it off. The 2nd period would come to a close with the Bruins holding a 3-2 lead and out-shooting the Hurricanes 25-13.

The Bruins would enter the 3rd period with a one goal lead and looking for a solid 20 final minutes as the Hurricanes will need to come from behind if they want to keep their 9 game win streak intact. Carolina came out buzzing to start the 3rd period and had a couple of scoring chances in the opening minute of the period but Rask was there to make the saves and keep the score 3-2. The Bruins would find themselves on a 5 on 3 powerplay with a chance to extend their lead as Aho and de Haan were called for penalties 43 seconds apart from each other. Petr Mrazek kept the Hurricanes within a goal as Boston had some quality chances on the PP but could not beat Mrazek and Carolina would return to even strength with just over 14:00 to play. Carolina would go on the PP looking for the equalizer when Joakim Nordstrom went off for charging with 11:25 remaining. Kevan Miller would sail the puck over the glass to put the Hurricanes on a 5 on 3 with 48 seconds remaining on the penalty to Nordstrom. The Hurricanes generated a number of chances on the extended powerplay but Tuukka Rask was standing on his head in the Boston net making save after save including a highlight reel stop as he denied Aho poiint blank and then dove across the crease to absolutely rob Teravainen on the rebound attempt and the Bruins would survive the penalty kill and return to even strength with just over 8:00 remaining in regulation. The Bruins were on their heels as Carolina suddenly had all the momentum and the crowd behind them and Jake Debrusk would take a slashing penalty to put the Canes right back on the powerplay with 7:40 left. The Hurricanes got set up on the PP and moved the puck around to create a great chance for Justin Williams on a one timer from the slot but Rask would make another fantastic save as he got a pad on the rocket from Williams. The Bruins would catch a break as Svechnikov was whistled for hooking and the teams would now skate 4 on 4 for 26 seconds before Boston would go on a powerplay of their own. The Bruins could not convert on their PP and we would return to 5 on 5 even strength play as the clock ticked under 4:00 to play. The Hurricanes in full attack mode as they continued to push for the tying goal and finally got it when Svechnikov won a board battle digging the puck out along the side boards and got the puck to Ferland who ripped a wrist shot from the slot that broke through Rask and trickled in for a huge game tying goal with 2:04 remaining in regulation to even the score at 3-3 and set the stage for what should be an incredible finish to this game. Boston had a great chance in the closing seconds when Pastrnak circled the net and found Marchand in the slot but Mrazek made a huge pad save to deny Marchand and time would run out as the 3rd period comes to an end with the score tied 3-3 and the game headed to overtime. Carolina out-shot Boston 18-11 in the 3rd period and Boston had a 36-31 edge in shots through 60 minutes

The teams would skate 3 on 3 to begin OT with Carolina creating a number of chances in the opening minutes and had the Bruins scrambling but Rask came up with several saves to bail his team out. The Bruins rolled out 3 forwards onto the ice and would end it with 1:28 to play in overtime as Anders Bjork used his speed to skate the puck out of trouble in the defensive end before turning up ice and leaving the puck for Danton Heinen who played give and go with Bjork before sliding the puck over to Jake Debrusk who snapped off a perfect shot picking the top corner for the game winner giving the Bruins a thrilling 4-3 OT win

* The Bruins produce a statement win as they go on the road to face the hottest team in the NHL and snap the Hurricanes 9 game win streak with a 4-3 OT victory

* This was an incredible back and forth game and Carolina dominated the 3rd period as the Bruins were in complete survival mode over the final 20 minutes

* The Hurricanes 9 game winning streak is snapped as they fall to 9-1-2 on the season while the Bruins improve to 6-2-4 with the win

* Jake Debrusk scored the OT game winner for his 4th goal of the season while David Krejci scored his 6th of the season, Anders Bjork picked up his 4th goal and John Moore scored his 1st goal in a Bruins uniform

* Tuukka Rask stopped 35 of 38 shots and stood on his head at times as he was under siege late in the game and made a number of number of highlight reel saves at critical points in the game

* Michael Ferland scored 2 goals to lead the way offensively for Carolina

* The Bruins will travel to Nashville to face the Predators at Bridgestone Arena for their enxt game. Nashville has struggled a bit to start the season with a record of 4-7-2
