Gameplay Sliders:

Attribute Effects (6/10): Emphasizes individual skills while maintaining the importance of tactics and teamwork. You'll see star players shine, but smart strategies still win games.

Broken Stick Frequency: For Play Now use (39). For Franchise mode use (3).

Game Speed (1/6): Mimics the deliberate pace of real NHL games. Players skate with purpose, with bursts of speed for key moments.

Fatigue Effect (90): Fatigue has a noticeable impact, forcing strategic substitutions throughout the game. Manage your players' stamina to maintain peak performance.

Fatigue Recovery (50): Recovery is gradual, reflecting real player stamina management. You can't just rest for a few seconds and be back to full speed.

Injury Occurrence (55): Adds the element of player injuries without being overused. Keeps things unpredictable and adds stakes to every shift.

Skating:

Back Skating (45): Restricts unrealistic backwards movement but allows defensive maneuvering. You can still hold your line and protect the net, but you won't glide endlessly backward.

Hustle Type (Authentic): Players exert realistic effort levels based on their roles and situations. No more lazy superstars!

Puck Carrier Agility (30): Balances smooth handling with control limitations. Skilled players can still weave through defenders, but it's not automatic.

Puck Carrier Skating (20): Maintains control without making it too easy for puck carriers to escape pressure. Defenders have a chance to catch up.

Player Acceleration (30): Mimics real NHL players' gradual bursts of speed. No instant teleportation across the ice!

Skating Speed (30): Promotes a balanced pace with realistic acceleration and deceleration. No more players zipping around like rockets.

Skating Agility (40): Allows for dynamic maneuvers and edgework, showcasing skilled skating styles. You can pull off impressive moves, but defenders can still counter if they read you well.

Shooting:

One Timer Accuracy (10): Rewards skill and timing on off-balance one-timers. Not every one-timer is a guaranteed goal.

Shot Accuracy (25): Maintains a slight chance of missed shots, especially from awkward angles or long distances. No laser beams from anywhere on the ice!

Shot Power (50): Keeps variability based on players and shot types. Powerful players and slap shots can still pack a punch.

Slap Shot Accuracy (15): Adds risk and reward to using slap shots. They can be powerful but difficult to control.

Slap Shot Power (60): Balances accuracy with the potential for powerful slap shots. You can still unleash a bomb, but it might not always find the net.

Passing:

Manual Passing (On): Adds the skill element of controlling passes for greater precision. You want to reward players for skillful passing, not just rely on the CPU.

Pass Assist (10): Offers some assistance without making passing automatic. You still need to aim carefully and time your passes well.

Min Pass Speed (20): Maintains realistic passing range for controlled plays. No cross-ice bombs from your own zone!

Max Pass Speed (40): Allows for long bombs with precise timing. Skilled players can pull off those risky stretch passes for big rewards.

Saucer Pass Speed (30): Adds the option for risky but potentially rewarding saucer passes. You can try to thread the needle, but it might not

Pass Accuracy (CPU/HUM): 0/45: Balances CPU mistakes with occasional human error for a challenge. Both the AI and you can make errant passes, keeping things unpredictable.

Pass Interceptions (60): Maintains offensive flow while still making passing a strategic decision. Interceptions are possible, so you need to choose your passes wisely.

Pass Reception Ease (20): Reduces frustration with receiving passes but keeps it realistic. You won't always catch every perfectly, but it's not impossible.

Reception Reaction Time (45): Realistic reaction times to incoming passes. Players don't teleport to the puck instantly.

Puck Control Rating Effect: 70 Emphasizes individual puck control skills for strategic importance.

Puck Speed Reception Effect: 60 Influences puck reception success based on incoming puck speed.

Pickup Type Effect: 50 Differentiates the difficulty of picking up loose pucks in various situations.

Bouncing Puck Receptions: 40 Adds realism and challenge to handling bouncing pucks.

Puck Control:

Stick In Physics (Stick, Legs And Body): Promotes realistic puck interactions and battles for control. The puck interacts with players' sticks, legs, and bodies, not just their blades.

Incidental Contact Puck Loss (Stick, Legs And Body): Maintains control with incidental contact but makes players vulnerable to stick checks. You can still hold onto the puck during minor bumps, but skilled stick checks can force turnovers.

Incidental Stick Contact Immunity (0): Makes players vulnerable to stick checks for added skill challenges. You can't just hold the puck without risk of losing it to a well-timed poke check.

Puck Control (30): Rewards skilled players with better puck handling. Players with high puck control ratings can protect the puck more effectively.

Deking Impact (50): Allows for skillful dekes but not overpowered moves. You can pull off impressive moves, but defenders can still counter if they're in the right position.

Spin Deke Impact (50): Adds high-risk, high-reward potential to spin dekes. Spinning moves can be extremely effective, but they're also risky and prone to failure.

Skating Impact (0): Prevents skating from heavily affecting puck control for realistic stickwork. Your ability to handle the puck depends more on your stick skills than your skating speed.

Goalies:

Goalie Cover Frequency (75): Less consistent saves for more scoring opportunities, but not too easy. Goalies aren't perfect walls, but they still make some impressive saves.

Goalie Passing: For Play Now Mode use (30). For Franchise Mode use (36).

Goalie Cross Crease Reaction Time (45): Realistic reflexes for lateral movement across the crease. Goalies can move quickly to cut down angles and challenge shooters.

Goalie Save Reaction Time (40): Realistic reaction times to shots and rebounds. Goalies don't react instantly, so well-placed shots can beat them.

Goalie Deflection Reaction Time (40): Adds variety and realism to deflection scenarios. Not every deflection goes your way, making goals less predictable.

Goalie Screen Effect (50): Stronger impact of screens, but remember they shouldn't guarantee a blocked shot. Screens can make it harder for goalies to see, but skilled shooters can still find the net.

Goalie Screen Persistence (40): Balances screen effectiveness with gameplay flow. Screens don't last forever, so defenders can still move and challenge shooters.

Checking:

Board Effect (Non-Puck Carrier/Puck Carrier): 10: Balances the impact of crashing into boards for both players. Both players can get knocked down or injured from hard hits into the boards.

Hitting Assistance (0): Emphasizes skill and timing for successful checks. You need to be in the right position and time your hits well to knock players off the puck.

Stumble Threshold (70): Increases the chance of stumbles from hard hits for added realism. Big hits can have consequences, forcing players to get back up and regain their balance.

Fall And Stumble Fall Ease (30): Makes getting back up from stumbles require some effort. Players don't just pop back up instantly after being knocked down.

Aggression (45): Maintains a balanced level of aggressiveness in both checking and attacking zones. Players will go for checks, but they won't recklessly abandon their defensive positions.

Hitting Power (35): Mimics the power and impact of real NHL checks. Big hits can be devastating, but they won't knock players out every time.

Size Effect (55): Emphasizes the advantage of larger players in physical matchups. A well-timed check from a big player can easily overpower a smaller opponent.

Speed Effect (30): Rewards good positioning and timing for checks despite speed differences. Even slower players can lay out big hits if they're in the right place at the right time.

Checking/Balance Rating Effect (75): Highlights the importance of both checking and balance skills. Successful checks depend not only on power but also on maintaining your own balance.

Preparedness Effect (50): Rewards good positioning and anticipation for effective checks. Players who are expecting plays have a higher chance of laying out big hits.

Incidental Contact Effect (70): Increases the frequency of incidental contact and potential consequences. Every bump and jostle has a chance to impact the play, adding realism and unpredictability.

Poke Checking Accuracy (30): Adds challenge and realism to poke checking attempts. Skilled players can still dislodge the puck effectively, but it's not a guaranteed success.

Poke Checking Power (45): Balances the effectiveness of poke checks with the risk of penalties. Powerful poke checks can knock the puck loose, but they can also lead to tripping or hooking calls.

Stick Lift Effectiveness (70): Makes successful stick lifts impactful but not automatic. Skilled players can win the puck cleanly, but sloppy attempts can result in penalties.

Penalties:

CPU Penalties (12): Adjusts the overall frequency of CPU penalties for a closer-to-average NHL game (5-6 penalties per game).

CPU Teammate Penalties (8): Adds realism with occasional teammate penalties, mirroring real NHL games.

Slashing (45): Maintains a realistic presence of this common penalty without overusing it.

Elbowing (40): Similar to slashing, balances realism and frequency for elbowing penalties.

Cross-checking (40): Another common penalty, kept at a realistic frequency for strategic gameplay.

Boarding (20): Maintains a lower frequency for this potentially dangerous penalty.

Charging (10): Keeps this dangerous penalty infrequent for safe and realistic gameplay.

Interference (50): Covers various infractions and adds realism to CPU vs CPU games.

Holding (45): Allows strategic adjustments without bogging down the game with excessive holding calls.

Tripping (40): Balances the frequency of this less common penalty for strategic flow.

High-Sticking (45): Emphasizes safe play while maintaining a realistic frequency for this dangerous penalty.

Hooking (15): This less frequent penalty can still be used strategically during gameplay.

Delay of Game (30): Enforces various infractions at a realistic, manageable frequency.

AI:

CPU Learning (0/6): Limits the AI's ability to learn and adapt, preventing them from becoming overpowered while maintaining some challenge.

CPU Difficulty Adjustment (0/6): Provides a balanced challenge for most players.

CPU Faceoff Difficulty (55): Slightly increases the challenge of winning faceoffs, mimicking real NHL competition.

Fight Difficulty (45): Balances the frequency and difficulty of fights, keeping them realistic without overwhelming gameplay.

CPU/USER/BAP Strategy Adjustment (2/6): Slightly favors a more balanced approach compared to the previous setting, promoting both offensive and defensive strategies for the CPU.

Bonus Tip: Combine these slider settings with realistic camera settings like Dynamic Low (Alternate) and Low Goalie Camera for an even more immersive experience.

** Attention Hockey Fanatics: Precise Sliders for Precise Outcomes **

I'm here to drop a truth bomb about my meticulously crafted slider set: Zero tolerance for change. That's right, folks. These numbers aren't just pulled from a hat. They're the result of countless hours of testing, tweaking, and fine-tuning to achieve one goal: NHL authenticity down to the finest detail.

Think of it like a master chef's recipe. Every ingredient is carefully measured, every step timed to perfection. You wouldn't dare add a pinch of salt or swap out the flour, would you? Same goes for these sliders. Each value is a crucial component of the delicate ecosystem that brings NHL action to life.

Here's why precision matters:

Gameplay Symphony: Every slider interacts with others in a harmonious dance. Change one, and you risk throwing the whole rhythm off, leading to unpredictable outcomes and a less authentic experience.

Real-World Reflection: These numbers have been carefully calibrated to mirror real NHL stats and tendencies. Altering them would disrupt that authenticity, turning your virtual ice into a fantasy land where the laws of hockey don't apply.

Hard-Earned Balance: Finding that sweet spot between offense, defense, physicality, and strategy was no easy feat. It's a delicate equilibrium, and even minor adjustments could tip the scales in unintended ways.

So, here's my plea: Respect the numbers. Trust the process. Embrace the challenge of mastering these sliders as they are. Only then will you unlock the true magic of authentic NHL gameplay.

I'm not saying experimentation is forbidden. But if you're gonna tinker, do it with caution and awareness of the potential consequences. And remember, the original recipe is always here, ready to serve up that perfect blend of realism and excitement.

Join me in this quest for hockey perfection. Let's show the world that virtual ice can feel just as real as the frozen ponds we grew up on. Together, we'll raise the bar for NHL simulation and experience the sport we love in ways we never thought possible.

Game on, folks. And remember: Keep those sliders precise!

Re: Occam’s NHL 23 20 minute Sliders

Under the Hood (and Exhausted But Exhilarated!)
Man, hockey fans, today was a marathon under the hood of my beloved slider set. Hours spent tweaking, testing, and refining, fueled by cold coffee and the burning desire to achieve the impossible. And guess what? We did it. After countless trials and errors, I've cracked the code, unlocked the forbidden fruit, and created something truly special.

But first, let me apologize. My workbench has been overflowing with tools, discarded sliders, and enough pizza boxes to rival a Zamboni garage. My brain feels like a slapshot to the temple, but the accomplishment? Worth every bleary-eyed moment.

What did I achieve, you ask? Well, I've crafted a slider set that breathes authenticity. We're talking NHL action so real, you can practically smell the liniment. Shots that zing and miss with agonizing realism, defensive battles that leave you breathless, and a scoring pace that mirrors the real game, not some arcade slugfest.

This wasn't just about numbers on a screen, folks. This was about capturing the soul of the sport. The ebb and flow of momentum, the desperation dives, the strategic chess match between offense and defense. I wanted you to feel the puck on your virtual stick, hear the roar of the crowd, and taste the sweet, sweet victory of a hard-fought win.

And now, it's yours for the taking. Go ahead, dive into these sliders and experience NHL gameplay like never before. I guarantee you'll be back for seconds, begging for more.

But don't just take my word for it. Dive into the comments below and share your own experiences. Let's create a community of hockey obsessives, united by our passion for the game and the pursuit of the perfect digital simulation.

Here's your chance to:

Experience NHL-authentic gameplay: Forget arcade shooters, this is hockey like you've never seen it before.
Challenge yourself: These sliders aren't for the faint of heart. Get ready for a true test of your hockey IQ and stick skills.
Join the community: Share your feedback, tips, and triumphs with fellow slider enthusiasts.
So, lace up your virtual skates, step onto the digital ice, and let's rewrite the rulebook on NHL gameplay. Together, we can push the boundaries and prove that anything is possible, even the impossible.

P.S. My apologies to my girlfriend for the pizza carnage. I promise to clean up... eventually.

Tell you what, why don’t YOU give them a try? Takes just a couple minutes to setup and I think you’ll enjoy them. Believe me I know how hard “nirvana“ is to live up to as well. I believe I’ve done it!

Re: Occam’s NHL 23 20 minute Sliders

**Mic drop time! ** Behold, the glorious fruits of my slider sorcery! ✨ Just wrapped up the first period, and let's just say, these settings ain't your grandma's bingo sliders.

Remember all those times I told you this setup was a game-changer? Well, feast your eyes on the evidence, my friends. Every tweak, every meticulous slide – it's all come together in a symphony of sweet, sweet success.

So, to all the doubters, the naysayers, and anyone who ever questioned the power of a perfectly calibrated slider: I present my exhibit A! This ain't no fluke, folks. This is a finely tuned machine purring at peak performance, thanks to the magic of… well, you know, sliders.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I have a victory lap (and maybe a celebratory slider adjustment or two) to attend to. But feel free to marvel at my handiwork, ask me anything, or just bask in the warm glow of slider-powered domination. The possibilities, just like these settings, are endless!

P.S. Don't forget, the secret to this slider nirvana is just a DM away. I'm always happy to spread the slider love. ❤️

Re: Occam’s NHL 23 20 minute Sliders

Subject: Question about star ratings for nhl sliders

Hi everyone,
I have been a long-time member of this forum and a fan of nhl sliders. I have created and shared my own sliders for nhl 23, which I think are realistic and fun to play with. In fact, I created the only working 20 minute set that actually gives correct results for stats, penalties, injuries, and fatigue. You can check out my sliders and see for yourself how they work.

However, I have noticed that some sliders get star ratings and some get flat out ignored. There are three sliders that seem to always get stars, no matter what they change or update. On the other hand, there are many other sliders, including mine, that get none or very few stars, even though they have positive feedback.

I am wondering why this is the case. Is there a criteria or a system for giving star ratings to sliders? Is it based on popularity, quality, or something else? I feel like there is some favoritism or bias going on here, and it is discouraging for me and other slider creators who put a lot of time and effort into making and testing our sliders. I think star ratings should reflect the actual performance and satisfaction of the sliders, not just the reputation or preference of the creators. I have to tell you, this forum will lose talent if this keeps ongoing.

Re: Occam’s NHL 23 20 minute Sliders

Ahoy, Occam crew! The jolly winds of the holidays are whipping up a blizzard of good tidings, and nestled amongst the snowflakes is a colossal upgrade to your beloved NHL 23 slider set! We're talking about a metamorphosis so dramatic, it'll make last version feel like a quaint log cabin compared to a five-star chalet on Lake Placid itself!

No mere dusting of adjustments here, friends. We've plunged headfirst into data deeper than a Zamboni's wake, dissected NHL stats hotter than cocoa with a dash of habanero, and even tapped the wisdom of pro players and commentators more legendary than a slapshot from Orr himself. Every slider, from puck physics to AI behavior, has been meticulously fine-tuned to deliver the most authentic, heart-pounding NHL 23 experience ever to grace your virtual rink.

Prepare yourselves for:

AI that'll give Santa a run for his money: These opponents read your plays like a well-worn Christmas carol, adapt faster than a chameleon on hot coals, and pull off moves that'd make even McDavid tip his toque. No more predictable patterns, just pure, dynamic hockey magic that'll keep you on the edge of your virtual seat.
Scoring that's a gift under the tree: Every goal is a story, a hard-fought battle won centimeter by centimeter. Shots carry the weight of a December snowfall, rebounds pirouette like unpredictable snowflakes, and sniping the top corner feels like a handwritten note from the Hockey Gods themselves.

Defense tighter than a gingerbread house after the kids: Say goodbye to cheesy goals and power plays that would make Scrooge blush. This update is all about strategic positioning, bone-crushing checks, and anticipation so sharp it could cut through gingerbread. Every shift is a tactical masterpiece, and every victory a hard-earned triumph.

Physics that'll leave you saying "Ho ho ho!": Feel the ice crackle under your virtual blades, witness pucks ricocheting off sticks like rogue snowballs, and watch goalies make saves so incredible they'll have you rewinding the replay in disbelief. This ain't arcade hockey, folks, this is reality transplanted onto your screen.

This update, my friends, is the culmination of my deepest hockey knowledge poured onto the digital ice. It's my parting gift to this project, but trust me, I've left every ounce of passion and expertise on the virtual rink. So grab your controllers, crank up the carols, and prepare to be swept away by this holiday gift that keeps on giving.

Happy holidays, Occam fam! Now go out there and make this virtual season one for the record books, both on and off the ice. And don't forget to share your thoughts and experiences with the new set in the comments – I'm as eager as a kid on Christmas morning to hear what you think!

Cheers,

Occam

P.S. Remember, sharing is caring! Spread the word about this epic update and let's turn the virtual hockey world upside down – together! May your sticks be sharp, your passes crisp, and your goals plentiful!
