HELP - can't stop turning over the puck online

hey guys.. so i am having some serious trouble with defence this year.

I have been playing primarily versus online games.. i am 19-9-4 but up until recently had a much better record. All of a sudden when I select my defensemen and attempt to back skate I am almost assuredly beat by the rushing attacker.

I have tried a combo of holding LT or not holding it.. hustling back or not hustling. Spamming poke or trying to position myself so that if I am beat, I have a good angle to poke away the puck.

Basically, I am just having an awful time controlling my defence this year. Not only that, when I do get the puck in the corner or behind the net, it is almost always a turnover fest just trying to get the puck on the breakout to my wingers. I would say 85% of the time I turn the puck over in those situations. I like to consider myself a good passer (most games end with a 65%-70% passing percentage) and I routinely use the right stick while holding RT to power the pass to get a more crisp pass up to my wingers.

I am stumped this year. Please help me with defence. I lost so many 1 goal games because of giving up a bad goal or after I have to spin around chasing the forward doing circles in the corner I lose control and they walk out and roof a ****ty NHL 95 goal on me.

Really appreciate any advice, or links to a good youtube channel, etc..

Do you have auto-backskate on? I usually turn that off because i don't like the situations where my player pivots or doesn't pivot. Are you primarily trying to pass out of the defensive zone? If I'm getting forechecked hard, I usually dump it to center ice. Sometimes it works in my favor with a nice odd man rush.

They've completely destroyed this in NHL 16. The best you can do is hold the stick back and protect the puck.

Hmm good point. I always turn that off but might have forgot to do that this year. I will check. Yes to passing out the puck from a defender. I will try doing a big dump to see if I can pick it up before the blue line. Thanks.

Another question: Is it just me, or is switching players not nearly as seamless as before? I find that when I am trying to switch to the closest man to the puck or the last Dman back it often switches to a player I would never want it to switch to. I find this costs me big time. Any fix or tips?

This is the most under rated issue with this game. Switching players should not be difficult or be limited. Having said that, I've lost countless games because I am very good and anticipating what my opponents are going to do and yet I can't control the skater I need to counter their moves. This is so a simple fix, allow the user to cycle through ALL the players on the ice, starting with the closes to the puck, plain and simple.

I'm still not sure why holding down r2 won't pop up a menu ala nba 2k. I remember an NHL game on ps1 being able to.
