Best strategy for weak team against strong competition?

I created the Colorado Rockies but historically, they are a weak team.

Wondering if anyone has suggestions on strategy for a team like this that is the weakest team in the alumni league.

The team weakness is scoring, and probably strongest in physicality. Passing is not bad also. Full of power forwards, two-way forwards and playmakers.

Best settings for Forecheck? Pressure? Breakout?

Would appreciate any suggestions to make them competitive.
Thanks

You'll need to implement a trap based system. Find a defensive head coach and good assistants who can teach the players the system.

If you find a defensive coach, I'd advise just copying over the tactics he has listed.

General principles are standard offensive pressure, 1-2-2 passive forechecking system or 1-3-1 trap. If you have a big, phsyical team, use an offensive system that is based on crashing the net and trying to get reoound opportunities. Set all d-men to hold line and shoot. At least 5/10 energy per line.

Think of grinding squads like the Getzlaf-Perry Ducks, or the Kings in their hayday. Simple, puck-possession based style.
