EA Sports UFC: Four Fight Styles That Need to Be Viable

I always felt that UFC Undisputed 3 had gameplay systems that worked very well when viewed in a vacuum, but those very same systems lost something when you tied them all together. Don't get me wrong: I was a fan of the game, and I gave it a good score, but there was something about the gameplay flow that always eluded the devs at THQ. The connective tissue, if you will, that bridged between standing grapples, striking, ground fighting and submissions just didn't quite materialize, even in the last game.

I think you are underestimating UFC 3. Grinder, Elusive fighter, and pinpoint striker were all very doable styles in UFC 3. Elusive fighter was a bit harder to pull off...but at the same time. The fact that the clock runs quicker than in real life could make that style a bit unbalanced.

With that said you raise some valid points. Cardio needs to matter much more than it did in ufc 3 and you had to nail tons of leg kicks to actually do damage. Meanwhile it only takes a few strikes to get rocked making it VERY risky. The reality is that there are not many Machidas in MMA. Plus his ability has more to do with his understanding of feints and baiting which only the user can reproduce. NOT EASY...nor is it in real life

Great article. I agree with all of it. Here's to hoping that the EA UFC Devs have similar thoughts or at the very least have arcade and sim options.
