Fight Night vs EA UFC sales

I was running the global sales numbers on vgchartz and was a bit surprised that both FN Rd 4 and FN Champion outsold EA UFC 2. In fairness, they have been out 7 and 5 years longer respectively. But I'm not sure how much of a factor that actually is. Would a boxing game sell better than EA UFC 2 or EA UFC 3?


FNC on PS3 and 360 combined (2011): 1.89m Global as of July 22, 2017

FN R4 on PS3 and 360 combined (2009): 2.92m Global as of July 22, 2017

EA UFC 2 on PS4 and Xbox ONE combined (2016): 1.63m Global as of July 22, 2017

EA UFC 1 on PS4 & Xbox ONE combined (2014): 1.53m Global as of July 22, 2017

I'm not sure what it would be like today, but I guess it is fair to mention the boxing landscape has changed compared to what it was back then, same for MMA though I suppose.

And the install bases for both PS4 and X1 have probably only just managed to reach the numbers that the PS3/X360 were at when those games came out. Although I have not checked any of that.

Those numbers are good look how long fn has been out for, EA ufc isnt far behind.

The boxing landscape has possibly changed for the worse, while the MMA scene looks to be growing in popularity. And the numbers are probably on pace to be equal with FNC after the same amount of time.

However, if I were at EA I couldn't help but look at the numbers for the last two EA UFC games and compare them to the outstanding FN Rd 4 numbers.
EA UFC 2 is probably only on pace for FNC type numbers. They may want to try for those FN Rd 4 sales numbers again, 2.92 million. Especially after the McGregor Mayweather fight brought so much attention to boxing again. And having another big fight with GGG vs Canelo coming up soon to bring more attention to boxing again as well.

The 360 was at 42.9 million in 2011. Xbox one is currently at 28-30 mil.

Ps4 is at 60 mil. Ps3 was at 43 mil in 2011.

If he pulled the number from VGChartz, it doesnt include digital sales.

Either way, EA not making another boxing game any time soon, if ever. Been 6 years......
