Knockdown Question

When you get knockdown and it says move the right analog is it best to just hold it in a direction or flick it?

I move it back and forth rapidly. I used to gold it one way but it is much better moving it

it appears to be the same as a transition and I've had no problem from just holding in one direction, although if you mean like a low damage knockdown then i just spam forward and back until standing
