Sometimes you CAN be reversed before you swoop, which is a good thing in my opinion

(although a lot of the time it happens; it's due to lag )

I haven't really noticed the stamina savings but I still always try to swoop when I can, as every bit of stamina counts, let alone preventing reverses (Mostly)

Right. It doesn't really matter as long as you hit the swoop correct. But the vibration on the controler helps me most if I try doing it constantly. How fast you have to be depends on the transition, your stamina, GA, LAG etc....
So its not always the same time, which makes it hard. On laggy matches I don't even bother to try.
