I apologize if this has already been said, but the way I remember it personally is to see which hand they want to feed through to Muay Thai. For instance, if they're feeding the left hand through, block left. Feeding the right hand through? Block right.

this isn't a grapple strike counter but if you're on your back and your opponent is standing up (not grappling) you can parry his kicks to your legs and the axe kick to the body

Indeed you can! I did not know that, that's interesting!

I couldn't get it to work for the leg kicks, just for the axe kick. And I couldn't land a counter kick afterwards, nor could I tell if it let me stand up faster or not. Do you do anything afterwards that works well for you?

Either way, it's a much better option than getting kicked in the stomach, blocked or not!
