Takedown defense - sprawls and push-aways way too common

Sprawling is way too common when defending takedowns. So are push aways. The default and most common animation when defending takedowns should be the over-under or double under clinch. (The player shouldn’t have to use advanced controls or have a high level of wrestling to defend takedowns by clinching)

Only takedowns defended very early in the takedown window should result in the sprawl or push away animations.

In the UFC, most defended takedowns result in the clinch (commonly one fighter getting pushed against the cage). Sprawls and push aways are not nearly as common as they are in the games.

Re: Takedown Defense Animations

Agree 1000%. Especially if you have a good wrestler, there should be a way to get into a clinch position or drive them into the cage into a clinch. I had the same thoughts on this, depending on the timing the of the denial, it should lead to different results besides a sprawl position or shrug off.

They will problably do that in the next game when they focus on grappling (hope so). They also should remake all the transitions from the ground up.

Totally agree, there needs to be a whole re-work of this aspect --- essentially, the need to develop 'scramble gameplay mechanics' ---- since majority of missed takedowns turn into a clinch/scramble situation, that can be influenced or won by the 'better scrambler'

Hopefully for UFC 4

Yeah, I 100% agreed. Takedown needs to more struggle. Easy to deny and no penalty for late denies now. Late denies should be result in the clinch when attempt takedown on the middle octagon.

Re: Takedown defense - sprawls and push-aways way too common

They added cage takedowns to UFC 3, which will add some variety and depth to the wrestling. It just needs to happen more often, in the Beta it happened maybe three times in 200 matches.

The animation already exists and the new position is beautiful, with a realistic ensuing struggle that adds much needed depth to the wrestling system. Offensive fighter can complete the takedown or enter clinch, defensive fighter has multiple subs and transitions. It's a shame that they added such a great new element to the takedown game, yet only 1 in 50 takedowns actually end up there.

This may have been adjusted since the Beta though, I just haven't heard anything about it.

Ground game and takedowns really haven’t changed much and I only saw that cage take down animation maybe twice there Desperately needs to be more scrambles
