Re: How much are you planning on spending in Ultimate Team (UT) ?

The discussion being discussed here is a big one but EA's microtransactions have already been long proven as very toxic towards the community.

Im a looooooooong madden mut player, last year i spent probably $3500 on my mut team and probably $2000 this year.

The issue is that every year the company gets more greedy, and the game becomes more and more greedy, and soon the entire gameplay revolves around paying money at every step of the way.

This is without saying of how much of that actual money goes toward extra content since UT content is usually just re-skinned Caf's with different stats and swapped movelists, so its not like you are creating brand new Career mode missions, so this aspect can also be discussed at great lengths.

For example: This years madden EA lowered the OVR of elite players, making 80ovr elites, when last year i believe 85 was the minimum tier. So basically, when you open packs, you get a bunch of terrible cards that qualify as good pulls because they are *elites* just bad elites or in other words, gold cards from last year.....

Now comparing Ea UFC 2 vs Ea ufc 3

Last year UT mode was all about Caf's which we didnt have to buy over and over, we just needed to open packs to customize them(good solid microtransactions that made sense and were fair).

This years UT is destroyed, random design decisions that now mixed roster fighters with caf's, basically making the pack odds harder for us to pull what we want/what is useful. On top of that, perks now expire, so once again, if you want to compete at the highest level, either go grind for many hours, or pay up$$$$.

These are pretty clear signs of greed, and i would compare this years UT mode as very very similar on the levels of StarWars battlefront and EA is just hoping that players will be silent enough that they get to get away with this.

Yes the game has improved in certain areas, but the most popular mode in EA sports games "UT" has taken 2 steps back and its a shame.

EXACTLY. This is exactly what happened to NBA 2K over the years, and how it goes with every other Ultimate Team mode.

Wow, yeah they lost a lot of money here. I liked UT last year where I could do a face scan of myself and keep getting cool moves until my guy was the way I wanted him.
No attachment to my fighter, means no incentive to spend EA. Bummer. Hope your career mode can make up for it.

P.S. I don't really condone micro transactions, however as a software developer myself I do understand why they are needed on some games/platforms.

I personally don't mind shelling out some extra bucks for a "season pass", as there's also no obligation unless you rub it in our face during gameplay. I usually don't purchase those, as I'm rarely interested in the contents, but for this game I probably would. But if this way generates more revenue, so be it. I can understand people think it's fun and are willing to pay, which is indeed a plus for the "base" players who get some extra post-launch content for free.

I was resistant to the changes in UT at first, but now I relish the opportunity to wreck a nearly unlimited number of Conor McGregors online with a purple character named "Poot Poot".

Re: How much are you planning on spending in Ultimate Team (UT) ?

Ea had their most profitable year recently, but they talk as if they are an indie developer. Funny enough, micro transactions were removed from battlefront 2 which makes no sense if thats what they were depending on. The only reason ea depends on microtransactions is because they can use the additional money to purchase new licenses and companies, very little of that money gets redirected to the game. In fact, all the labor and effort spent on ultimate team could have been redirected to making ea ufc 3 much better, and there would be no additional cost.

I dont mind microtransactions in free to play games, this argument that its a “need” is just not true, its only a need because they got too comfortable placing their pockets as a priority over improving the fundamentals of a game. There are plenty of 60$ fixed games with no microtransactions that do very well, very well just isnt enough.
