Knees from Thai Clinch

Just faced a Jon Jones user who would try the old thai clinch knee whenever he got a rock from UFC2 and there was a ton of weirdness going on.

I blocked a lot of them and the animation showed me blocking them, there was no sound of it hitting, but the clinch broke and my fighter reacted as if he was hit. Many times he would also try an elbow then throw a knee and I would block the elbow then block the knee while it was half way up but it would still seem as if it connected.

Do blocked knees not count as blocked if you hold block after the animation starts, was I getting bleed through damage, or is something else going on?
