Jeeze... what happened to this game?

I want to preface this by saying that I play strictly offline against the AI.

I took a couple months off because I have been playing FIFA very heavy. I come back to UFC 3 because I was in the mood and man, this feels like an arcade fighter. I read all the patch notes since I have been out of the game, the minor head movement, the muscle modifier and what not. I get that this community is online competitive driven but this game does not have a good single player experience right now.

I was feeling nostalgic so I decided to do a matt Hughes vs bj penn 5 rounder and matt Hughes is throwing kicks like he is yair Rodriguez (reminder, I am playing the AI). This game was giving me a great human vs AI experience before all these patches. Wth happened?

In a 5 round fight matt Hughes threw 35 kicks. Shoot man I don't even think matt Hughes threw 35 kicks in his career much less a 5 round fight. This wasn't happening 2 months ago. Might have to shelve this game. Matt Hughes should be trying to lunch and look for the takedown. Granted he did try a bunch of takedowns on me but what is up with these kicks?

I also play offline almost exclusively..

And this is the polar opposite of my experience.
I actually played Hughes v Condit just last night (with AI grapple transitions turned up 6 ticks) and Hughes was exactly how I hoped, I tried to kiclbox and he took me down EVERY time my foot left the canvas.

I managed to win with a Kimura reversal late in the 3rd but I was sitting there thinking "this is EXACTLY how I imagined this fight"

Sure, the AI isn't perfect and occasionally throws things it shouldn't (Rampage high kicks, ect)

But its been nothing but improved since launch.
AI makes mistakes now, boxers have been tweaked to kick less, Pro/Legendary have been refined to not spam combos.

Skynets been on fire, really.

What difficulty are you on?
I think my Condit/Hughes was on Hard, or maybe pro.

35 isn't that bad given he hasn't got a unique AI (meaning he is using the generic wrestler template I believe)

Real time clock or ACC, too?

I've had Hughes throw a few body kicks but nothing regular enough to be noteworthy.

Edit: On the note of TDs. Did he get you down? Or did you sprawl all his shots and force it into a kickboxing match? Though admittedly that rarely makes the AI adapt its gameplan.

Oh, one more thing.

Did he do it fight after fight after fight?
Or just in the one 5 rounder?

Because I've found the AI can be oddly variable.

I've had Bones Jones come at me like a bullet, throwing constantly.

Then in the next fight with him, he'll throw 30 strikes for a whole round.

He normally is quite passive, like the later example, but every now and then he goes silly.

It's possible this is what's happened with hughes for you.

Because again, I fought him just the other day and he felt great.

He threw lots of kicks against renzo Gracie. Maybe even finished him with kicks if i remember correctly it was close to it ... and that was one of his last fights. Also what difficultly are you playing at ? This could be the Issue

I never saw that fight but the finish went down as a TKO (Leg Kicks and punches) so I'm guessing Hughes chopped Renzo down then pounded him out when it was safe?

But that's literally a guess from the result lol.

I do wish we had more roundhouse kick animations, as Hughes comes from the Hendo school of kicking.
I don't mind Hughes kicking, but it does look odd because it looks like he has nice muay Thai style kicks, which he certainly doesn't.

UD3 had the Hughes/Hendo style of leg kick.

Interestingly enough that was only a fight or two after Hughes fought full-juicy mode Thiago Alves too.

Probably realized there was something in fandangle new age kicks.

Hey yeah so like I had said Hughes utilized low kicks a ton in the fight hurt Renzo dropped him wobbled him w low kicks and eventually dropped him and fished w strikes - i do agree it’s weird seeing guys like him use crisp *** kicks . I think it might be cool if ea ufc has like an ugly animation for kicks pinches and takedowns for guys who were bad at certain aspects or at least unconventional. Just to give t some variety and to set specialist aside 🤷🏽*♂️ Maybe ea ufc 4
