I have a problem when Im trying to double a WR

i use the hot route on D. half the time my safety(who i use to double the WR) goes right up to the WR and defends him and half the time he just stands there(away from my WR) and doubles when its too late. help!

same thing happens to me. these are the things that usually happen.

1. he runs over to the reciever and lines up right next to the other DB on the WR, and i usally move him back a little because I dont want them both to get beat by a streak.

2.he stands still and it takes long for him to get over to help

3. he runs to the other side of the field....

but it does work in help shutting down the receiver, just after you use the double team try and position your Saftey or whoever in the right position for better double coverage.

Never noticed this when playing ESPN..when i do a double on a WR they double him just fine just as long as i get the change done before the snap

they do double every time but i was just talking about what happens when i put them into double coverage, they react differently sometimes.
