Re: From The Shadows | The Rise Of "Nitro" Nash Savage (CFB25)

Well it's sucks to end the rivalry streak, the entire move to the SEC was hopes of having battles every weekend instead of blowout wins, so mission accomplished there. Also not.winning a SEC title in year 1 also gives you something to push for next year as well. I assume that the Bulldogs could still make the playoffs if you win out. So the quest for a Natty isn't completely out of the question

Also, I forgot how much I hate the current OT rules with the two-point conversion attempts. College football had it right the first time by starting on the 25 and then forcing teams to go for two after a certain point.
It had to end eventually, but I'm glad it wasn't too an unranked team or a game where we came out flat. It was a dog fight and exactly what you'd expect Georgia V Florida to look like.

And 100% on the OT rules. I totally forgot it was that way now, I was expecting touchdowns with a forced 2PT until it came down to it. Is what it is, in hindsight I probably should have put the ball in Velasco's hands, but eh.

Exactly. I don't mind the couple of losses and it adds extra emphasis on the late games of the season that weren't there with Syracuse in the last few seasons. Plus as you said, gives us something to build towards rather than being good right out of the gate. This team is rated 90 OVR but outside of a few players it doesn't feel like it. It may be adjusting to the new sliders, but it just feels like they don't fit what I normally do yet and it shows when we hit ruts on both sides of the ball. Once I get some of "my guys" in we should start showing the SEC what we're made of.

Currently we're still 10th so we'd make the playoffs unless there were two conference winners that were lower ranked, but thats still a ways away. Huge game in the Oldest Rivalry in College Football, then Kentucky, then GTech to close out the season with another rivalry.

LEFT - LBs Pat Lovell and Caleb Keene meeting at Auburn's QB after the go-ahead score ensuring the Tigers would have that much farther to march to win the game.
CENTER - WR Logan Popek gave CB Logan Baldridge the business all afternoon with this 24 yard go-ahead score being the icing on the cake.
RIGHT - Melvin Miles spinning between two defenders to give Georgia their 1st lead of the game with 5:49 remaining.

Athens, GA. - Georgia found itself in a battle against Auburn but managed to escape with a thrilling 31-27 victory in Athens, keeping its SEC Championship Game hopes alive. After last week’s overtime battle, Georgia head coach Nash Savage made it clear he wanted to avoid another extra-period thriller, and his team played with that urgency down the stretch.

The Tigers struck first with a Brayden Muti 3-yard touchdown run in the opening quarter, setting the tone for a back-and-forth affair. Georgia responded in the second quarter with a Daniel Velasco 4-yard touchdown run, but Auburn’s Seth Matakevich knocked through a 31-yard field goal to briefly regain the lead. A 26-yard field goal from Quincey Toone tied the game at 10 apiece heading into halftime, with both teams nearly identical in total yardage—Auburn at 202 yards and Georgia at 174.

The third quarter saw each team trade touchdowns, with Auburn’s Delonte Ausbon punching in a 1-yard score before Georgia’s Rudy Gaskin answered with a 14-yard run. Auburn regained the lead in the fourth with another Matakevich field goal, but Georgia finally took its first lead of the game when Titus Tobin connected with Melvin Miles for a 7-yard touchdown. Auburn, unwilling to back down, responded with a stunning 24-yard touchdown pass from Bernie Meeks to Logan Popek after Georgia’s defensive call left Popek in single coverage—a matchup he had dominated all day.

With just 1:26 left on the clock, Georgia needed a game-winning drive. Despite four drops on the final possession, the Bulldogs methodically moved down the field, converting a crucial 4th-and-4 at the Auburn 24 when Tobin found freshman Sam Mangold for 8 yards. Two plays later, Tobin hit Miles for 12 yards, setting up Velasco for the game-winning 4-yard touchdown run, as the senior bulldozed through three Auburn defenders to deliver the final blow with only 31 seconds remaining.

“We went to overtime last week in a rivalry game, and I didn’t want to take that risk again,” Georgia head coach Nash Savage said postgame. “We moved the ball well, and I trusted our guys to go win it right there.”

Velasco, who played his final game at Sanford Stadium, reflected on the moment: “I’m still taking it in. They whooped us last year, and I wanted to get this win for my teammates and these fans.”

Georgia’s victory became even more significant minutes later when Kentucky upset Florida 29-27, pulling the Bulldogs into a first-place tie in the SEC Southeast. Now, Georgia’s fate hinges on Auburn. If the Tigers can upset Florida next week, the Bulldogs will control their destiny with a win over Kentucky. Meanwhile, in the Big 12, Ball State held off Kansas 35-28 to remain unbeaten at 10-0, though the Cardinals still face tough tests against Arkansas and Iowa State with the division title on the line.

Nice win. And looks like Kentucky helped you out last week beating the Gators so don't completely crush them this week. Now you need Auburn to step.up and help you out

Can't be too nice too them, still need the win and a Florida loss to make the CCG. Looks like LSU will be on the other side unless they flop down the stretch, they do have the tie breaker with Miss St.

Daniel Velasco saw nothing but green as he took his first carry 70 yards, eventually being dragged down from behind. The senior would get the touchdown two plays later to kickoff the scoring for Georgia.

LEFT - After Kentucky score with 50 seconds left, Titus Tobin decided to snatch the momentum right break before the break orchestrating a quick 5 play touchdown drive capped with this 1 yard keeper to pusn the halftime lead to 42-17.
CENTER - Wildcat HB Austin Redmond was a bulldozer early on, breaking off a 45 yard run on the Kats 1st drive then this 87 yard TD after barreling thorugh S David Page.
RIGHT - While Kentucky was able to put up 14 points in the 4th quarter, a pair of interceptions kept the Wildcats from every challenging a comeback.

Lexington, KY. - Georgia wasted no time asserting its dominance in Lexington, jumping out to an early lead and never looking back in a commanding 52-31 victory over Kentucky. After back-to-back nail-biters, the Bulldogs ensured this one was never in doubt, scoring 42 points in the first half behind a balanced attack from quarterback Titus Tobin and running back Daniel Velasco. While Kentucky initially kept pace, highlighted by a dazzling 87-yard touchdown run from Austin Redmond, the Wildcats struggled to sustain drives once Georgia’s defense settled in. Redmond racked up 132 yards on just two carries in the first quarter but was mysteriously underutilized the rest of the way, finishing with 154 yards on 11 attempts. As Kentucky turned to the air, Georgia steadily pulled away.

The Wildcats managed to strike late in the second quarter, hoping to take a 35-17 deficit into halftime with momentum and possession to start the third. But Tobin responded with a methodical five-play drive, capping it off with a 1-yard touchdown run to stretch Georgia’s lead to 42-17 at the break. Kentucky’s Keenan Golston then threw a Hail Mary interception to end the half, and two more second-half interceptions would derail any realistic comeback attempt, despite the Wildcats adding two late touchdowns in the fourth quarter.

While Redmond had the game’s flashiest play, Georgia’s Velasco was the more consistent force in the ground game. He ripped off a 70-yard run on the Bulldogs’ opening possession to set up his own 8-yard touchdown and went on to finish with 156 yards and two touchdowns on 24 carries. Tobin, meanwhile, put together an outstanding performance, completing 21 of 27 passes for 389 yards and three touchdowns while also adding 73 rushing yards and two scores on 10 carries.

Despite the dominant win, Georgia’s hopes of an SEC Championship Game appearance were dashed when Florida edged out Auburn 31-28 on a late field goal, clinching the SEC Southeast Division via tiebreaker.

“I’m glad their game was after ours,” Georgia head coach Nash Savage admitted postgame. “Not that I think the guys would have fought any less, but playing with hope is a heck of a lot better than none. Regardless of the SEC title game, we’re still in the playoff hunt as long as we take care of business this week and against Georgia Tech. There’s still plenty of season left.”

Savage’s former team, Ball State, also kept its championship hopes alive with a 49-27 win over Arkansas, setting up a Big 12 showdown against Iowa State. The winner of next week’s clash in Ames will punch their ticket to the conference title game.

Up next for Georgia is their annual rivalry matchup against Georgia Tech in Atlanta. The Bulldogs will look to snap a three-year losing streak to the Yellow Jackets and finish the regular season strong as they aim for a playoff berth.
