Chiefs Dominate Jaguars 40-6
Above: Houston takes down Gabbert
Through Week 1, the Andy Reid Era in Kansas City is officially off to a better start than Gus Bradley's tenure in Jacksonville. The Chiefs surged past the Jaguars, 40-6, on Sunday afternoon.
The Chiefs were led by quarterback Alex Smith, who went 16-of-18 for 147 yards and one touchdown. The veteran spread the ball around to six different receivers and was aided by a strong running game. Kansas City running back Jamaal Charles ran for 148 yards and two touchdowns.
The Chiefs defense was equally impressive in the matchup, bringing down quarterback Blaine Gabbert five times. Outside linebacker Justin Houston was the star of the defense, sacking Gabbert four times. Safety Eric Berry contributed an interception that went for a long return. Derrick Johnson also intercepted Gabbert and took it back for a touchdown.
Gabbert had a forgettable outing, completing 16-of-47 passes for 137 yards and two interceptions. At times, he looked completely lost and threw both of his interceptions directly to Chiefs players. Running back Maurice Jones-Drew rushed for 87 yards on just 15 attempts.
