Unfinished Business - A New England Patriots Franchise

New England Hires Michael Anthony as New VP of Football Operations

Robert Kraft Announcing Michael Anthony's Hiring

FOXBOROUGH -- The New England Patriots have made a quick change before the start of the 2013-2014 season. In a move that caught a lot by surprise they have hired Michael Anthony as the new VP of Football Operations. This title in previous years has been added on to coach Bill Belichick.

"We have made a critical decision in how this team will operate in the form of signing, maintaining, and scouting talent. The reason we have made these changes is because of the progression of the league towards analytic scouting," says Patriot owner Robert Kraft. "Michael is a young man from Western State Colorado University - we have faith that he will excel in this new position and lead this team into further success."

Michael Anthony spoke briefly in the press conference but his main message was, "We of the New England Patriots have a motto - Unfinished Business. I am humbled at the oppertunity given to me by Mr. Kraft and the organization. Fans here hunger for success as do its players. I will do my best to provide my helping hand in that goal. We haven't won since '04 so you can bet I agree with the team, we will always have unfinished business till we raise that trophy again!"

New England Patriots Off-Season Report

Offseason.jpg

Notable Acquisitions:

Blount.png

LeGarrette Blount was acquired by the Patriots in a trade with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in return for Jeff Demps and a 7th Round (229th) pick in the 2013 Draft. Blount will provide a solid power running back game out of the backfield.

Amendola.png

Danny Amendola was signed by the Patriots for 5 years and $28.5M with $10M gauranteed. The Patriots signed him hours before losing star wide receiver Wes Welker in free agency to the Denver Broncos.

Wilson.png

Adrian Wilson was signed by the Patriots for 3 years and $3.6M. Wilson holds the record for most sacks in NFL history by a defensive back in a single season with 8. He will provide a solid replacement for the loss of Patrick Chung to the Philadelphia Eagles.

Other Notable Signings include: LT Will Svitek (1 year, $1M), DT Tommy Kelly (2 years, $4M), WR Austin Collie (1 year, $540K)

Notable Departures:

Welker.jpg

Wes Welker departed from the team citing contract negotiation issues. He signed with the Denver Broncos for 2 years and $12M.

Danny Woodhead signed with the San Diego Chargers for 2 years and $3.5M with a $1M signing bonus.

Aaron Hernandez was released by the team following his incarceration this past summer.

Other Notable Departures: WR Brandon Lloyd (Released), LG Donald Thomas (Colts), RG Brian Waters (Contract Terminated), DE Trevor Scott (Free Agent), SS Patrick Chung (Eagles), DT Kyle Love (Released), DT Brandon Deaderick (Jaguars).

RIVALRIES

The New York Jets are the primary rivalry for the New England Patriots in the AFC East. Since joining the NFL the Patriots have never allowed the Jets to win an AFC Championship and including post season currently lead the rivalry 53-52-1.

The Indianapolis Colts rivalry dates back to the 1970's when the team played in Baltimore. However, it wasn't till the team moved to the AFC South and the Brady-Manning rivalry began that this one took off. The Patriots currently lead the rivalry 48-29-0.

The Baltimore Ravens rivalry truly began in 2007 when in the quest to stop the Patriots perfect season then Defensive Coordinator Rex Ryan called a timeout and allowed the Patriots a second attempt on 4th Down. The team went on to win 27-24 and since have had heated fights in the playoffs. All time the Patriots lead this rivalry 8-3.
