Bringing Hope to a Dying Franchise - An Oakland Raiders Franchise (Madden 15)

Here I am as the new Team Builder-style Head Coach of the Oakland Raiders. A team I grew up watching and loving, a life-long fan through the good times and the bad. I come into this organization after a terrible past decade in which the teams best record was breaking an even 8-8 (2010, 2011).

I bring the Raiders a new approach on both sides of the ball. Dennis Allen's old playbook is nothing special, and I bring in my own 'Scattergun' playbook, which is a West-Coast offense at it's core, with a few extra Spread offenses sprinkled in. Mainly I will be utilizing the running game along with the Short to Medium passes.
  • Offensive Playbook: Scattergun (custom)
  • Defensive Playbook: Pittsburgh - Mike Tomlin (3-4)
I need to work with GM Reggie McKenzie to bring in some fresh talent and upgrade some of our stale positions (most notable positions: RB, WR, RG, RT, CB, FS). We did a great job in the off-season of this season in Free Agency and the Draft signing future superstar Khalil Mack and drafting a potential gold mine in Derek Carr.

Shared Files!

Just so you all know, I have uploaded my 'Scattergun' playbook to the Community Files.

This Franchise is being played on my custom All-Madden sliders (click here for sliders) that give me some really great, realistic numbers. I have uploaded my Sliders as well (both are entitled 'GP16ALLMADDENREALISTIC')

If you would like to download them, simply search for my gamertag: GutterPhenom16.

Re: Bringing Hope to a Dying Franchise - An Oakland Raiders Franchise (Madden 15)

Pre-Season
  • Coach Allen Fired: Raiders will have a new head coach as they cut ties with Dennis Allen
    • "BREAKING NEWS: Raiders have fired D. Allen" - Chris Mortenson
Notes

One of the major things I need to do this pre-season is I need to use the Game Prep on improving the Confidence and gaining EXP for top rookies Khalil Mack and Derek Carr.

Position Battles
QB: This is an interesting matchup for the pre-season as every QB have an equal shot at starting the first game of the year.
  • Schaub: comes in after a dismal season in Houston having been dwindling the last few seasons, but hopefully the change in scenery can reinvigorate this QB and bring him back to where he was 4 years ago
  • McGloin: was the rookie QB to take over for the ill-fated Terrelle Pryor experiment last year and had a decent season. He is unproven (only having played 7 of 16 games last year) but is a good pocket presence and could possibly bloom into a solid QB.
  • Carr: was our 2nd round pick in the last draft and was highly touted after being relatively unknown throughout his college career. He showed great poise in the pocket, an ability to run and put out an amazing combine to show he belonged in the NFL. I like him in my offensive system and will give him a good shot to prove himself in the pre-season.
RB: It is another 3-way battle for the Running Back position. With the Newest (Week 13) Roster Update it is now between Maurice Jones-Drew (76 Overall), Darren McFadden (72 Overall), Latavius Murray (72 Overall).
  • MJD is the starter for now, posing as a better 'bruising' type runner but has been more consistent throughout his career than DMC. Consider him to be more of the Fred Jackson-type of the Raiders.
  • DMC was the Raiders cornerstone when we drafted him in 2008 but has vastly underwhelmed mainly due to his constant being on the injury report. He is definitely the shiftier and faster of the two backs (the C.J. Spiller to our offense) but mainly will be used as a change-of-pace back unless he shows he is a considerable advantage over MJD.
  • Murray is the young gun of the contenders and really has an awesome shot at starting. His overall is the same as DMC's but he has blazing speed, elusiveness and acceleration - hopefully it will translate to big pre-season numbers.
Pre-Season Games

I simulate every pre-season game, they just aren't worth it to play. I simulate through the weeks with Injuries turned OFF so there aren't any ridiculous injuries that I cannot help with. I will see the stats at the end of the 4th game and make decisions under the Week 1 post, once again under the Coach's Corner.

Pre-Season Notes

McFadden and Jones-Drew finished with mediocre stats compared to Latavius Murray's great 5.2 YPC throughout the pre-season, on 98 carries. MJD and DMC only finished with carries in the mid-20's but unfortunately could only muster averages of 2.4 and 3.6, respectively. Murray earned the starting job, and McFadden will back him up on a time share, with MJD busting off 3rd Down duties.

The QB Position Battle wasn't even close. The CPU decided that Matt McGloin wasn't even worth using the entire pre-season, and it came down to Matt Schaub vs Derek Carr and Carr won hands down. They both had decent numbers, but Carr's 3 TDs to Schaub's 1 proves him to be the victor. With this settled, I would like to get rid of one of the 2 backup QBs and try and snag a few draft picks for them.

Trade Block
I have decided to put up a few people onto the Trading Block, see what comes through..
  • Matt Schaub (QB)
  • Matt McGloin (QB)
  • Maurice Jones-Drew (WR)
For Game-Prep this pre-season I have decided to focus on developing XP for Derek Carr, Darren McFadden, The Offensive Line, Khalil Mack, and D.J. Hayden, and maybe use some spare time toward other low-overall starters.

Week 1
News / Injuries
My Stories
  • Freshman Orientation: Darren Sutton will have insanely high expectations with no coaching background.
Coach's Corner
Position Battle Winners
  • QB: Derek Carr
  • RB: Running Back By Committee, Starter: Latavius Murray
    • DMC will back up Murray and MJD will get 3rd Down duties until I get an offer for him while he is on the block.
  • RT: Menelik Watson
Notes
Derek Carr will be leading this offense and hopefully the two-headed attack of Latavius Murray and Darren McFadden can prove to effective.

I am going to try and trade off Matt Schaub or Matt McGloin (preferably Schaub due to his contract) and try and get a few draft picks. MJD has the best break-tackle ability and trucking, so he will be taking on the 3rd Down duties along with and-Short duties where I need to bust through the line on an inside run.

An awesome first game for the new look Raiders. We almost blew a 20 point lead, but thankfully our offense was able to pull through in the clutch and come away with a victory in a crazy 4th quarter that featured 41 points scored.

The Offense was amazing today. Derek Carr had an awesome debut, throwing an impressive 299 yards with 3 TDs and 1 INT. The top two receivers, Rod Streater caught 6 balls for 47 yards and a TD, and James Jones played more of a role receiver, catching 5 balls for 38 yards. Andre Holmes had an awesome day catching 3 balls for 63 yards and Denarius Moore had a chance at catching 2 balls for 2 scores, but dropped his first target. His second target was on a 2nd down play in which I saw the safeties creeping up when I had a run called; I audibled to a pass play and sent Moore deep on a streak; there wasn't even a chance he was going to get caught. Latavius Murray had a great day shouldering the load for the Raiders, rushing 24 times for 107 yards and 1 TD.

The Defense started off amazing but come around the 4th Quarter, we completely dropped off and started allowing big plays. Geno Smith finished with 258 yards and 2 TDs, but both of his touchdowns were on bogus plays - one was a misread on my part (I called for a Run up the Middle, but it turned out to be a Play-Action pass and Harvin went untouched to the end zone) and the other TD was on a desperation Hail Mary that was tipped by Tarell Brown but still managed to find the hands of Shaq Evans who took it 76 yards to the house. Completely bogus. However, we could NOT stop the run game, Chris Ivory destroyed our defense, carving us up for 130 yards on 18 carries and 2 TDs.

Take away the two long throws and we did an awesome job today, but that 4th Quarter was absolutely bonkers - 41 points total in that final frame, just happy I caught the defense off-guard when I did to seal the game.

Week 2
A great win to start off my career as an NFL Head Coach, but this is my first real test going against JJ Watt and Jadeveon Clowney and the fearsome Texans Defense.

Notes
I need to do a better job at stopping the run. I want to go out and get an ILB that can do some damage and I have a trade in mind.

Trade
Trade Between Oakland Raiders & San Francisco 49ers
  • Raiders Give: Pat Sims (DT - 78 Overall), 2016 2ndRound Pick
  • 49ers Give: Chris Borland (MLB - 82 Overall), 2015 4th Round Pick
The 49ers needed a Defensive Tackle and since I switched to a 3-4 I have no use for two decent DT's and luckily enough the 2nd stringer Pat Sims was a high-value (Green on the color scale) target for the 49ers and I wanted to add in a draft pick for future use; so I went for their 4th Round Pickand to compensate I gave up next years 2nd Round Pick to them.

A great game last week, but I want to see Latavius Murray rush for another 80+ against this awesome defense. He will get 20+ carries, and I am hoping that Derek Carr is able to spread the ball around as well as he did last week against the Jets.

Such a tough loss. We had this game all wrapped up but our defense let off the gas in the final quarter and we absolutely paid for it as Ryan Fitzpatrick tossed 2 beautiful TDs to his star receivers to win the come-from-behind victory for the Texans.

The Offense was pretty bad today.Derek Carr threw 2 bad interceptions to 0 TDs today, and couldn't get any long passes going, while only able to complete 50% of his passes for a meager 181 yards. His main targets were once again Rod Streater and James Jones who caught 4 passes each for 59 and 38 yards respectively. Andre Holmes had another 3 catch, 45 yard performance and while Mychal Rivera was targeted the most times in this game, he dropped 2 passes (including the game-sealing 4th down quick pass that he was wide open on) and was well defended on his other targets, he only finished with 2 catches. Definitely a surprisingly bad performance from the usually-reliable Tight End. Latavius Murray could not continue his big numbers, as I predicted, as he could only get 51 yards on 20 carries, but did manage to score a Touchdown. The Texans front seven was just too much for the Raiders rushing attack.

The Defense started off so strong, but ultimately we fell apart and let the Texans take the game. Ryan Fitzpatrick had a terrible day until the 4th quarter, finishing his day with 198 yards and 2 TDs (both in the 4th). His major target was Arrelious Benn who nabbed a game-high 7 passes for 57 yards, but the two major weapons were Andre Johnson and DeAndre Hopkins who both caught 3 passes for 40 and 36 yards (respectively) with both receivers able to find the end zone. Arian Foster was able to have a decent day on the ground, but ultimately the Raiders were able to hold him to some meager numbers considering he started the game with 10 carries for 60 yards - he finished with 15 for 73.
Our Linebacking core really stepped up today against the superstar running back; Khalil Mack had a breakout performance, throwing down 7 solo tackles with 3 tackles for loss, including 2 sacks. Newly acquired Chris Borland also had 7 tackles with 1 going for a loss, and Sio Moore had 3 tackles with a sack as well.

All in all, thanks to some lacksidasical performances from Tarell Brown and Charles Woodson we gave up some big plays and the Texans definitely took advantage to get the win.

Week 3
A tough loss at home against the Texans. They were able to expose our offense and prove that the big numbers we achieved against the Jets were simply a fluke and nothing more. I need to do a better job at running the ball and I need to be more precise with my throws - this is not a secondary to take lightly.

Coach's Corner
Notes
A tough game last week against the Texans. This week we go into Foxboro to take on Tom Brady and the Patriots. They boast an extremely tough passing defense so I will need to Prep Derek Carr, James Jones, and Rod Streater and boost their confidence before the game so they go in with as much of a boost as possible. Latavius Murray is going to be the game-changer this week; it all comes down to how he handles his carries and if he can bust off a big run.

One thing that really did not make me happy last week was the performance of Tarell Brown. If there is another bad performance from him this week I will have to look into another trade, or possibly dropping a player in favor of a Cornerback.

One thing I need to do, soon, is trade away either Matt McGloin or Matt Schaub for a draft pick. I really need to rebuild this team through the draft, and hope that the young foundation can spark a title run in the next few years.

Just an ugly game today. We really had a great game going in the first half, but once we came back onto the field we turned into a different team and gave up massive chunks of yards through the air to that pretty boy Tom Brady.. Just makes me sick..

The Offense today was pretty bad once again. Derek Carr really showed his rookie insecurities today, throwing 2 INTs (both landing in the breadbasket of Jarrod Mayo covering Mychal Rivera) while only able to throw 210 yards, most coming in garbage time on the final drive in which he threw his only TD of the day, a 2 yard pass to Rod Streater. Streater once again led the team with 8 catches for 70 yards but the big play of the day came on that final drive where Carr hit a wide-open Brice Butler 31 yards downfield on a deep flag route. Latavius Murray once again couldn't get a good game on the ground only rushing for 60 yards on 23 carries, getting bottled up on many occasions and only able to get one run over 10 yards on the day.

The Defense was two different defenses today. In the first half we were all over Tom Brady and smothering the Patriots receivers but once we came back onto the field Tom Brady lit up our defense and finished the day with 347 yards and 4 TDs. His main target was Rob Gronkowski who nabbed 7 balls for 91 yards and 2 TDs, with Julian Edelman netting 60 yards on 2 grabs. Stevan Ridley couldn't get anything going today on the ground, only putting up 22 yards on 8 carries - with his long run being his 13 yard TD run, so take that away and you have a pretty terrible 7 carry, 8 yard performance; however, he was able to make up for his very lackluster rushing performance by nabbing 5 balls through the air for 52 yards and took 1 into the end zone. If there is one thing to take away from this game that is a positive, it is that the Rushing Defense finally stepped up and stuffed the run; but I really need to make a move for a corner who will actually be able to defend the pass.
