2016 Season Preview

Offense: The Georgia Southern offense will be lead by dual threat quarterback Kevin Ellison. The senior will be expected to make major contributions in the run game in addition to being the signal caller. Matt Brieda, who is currently 7th on the Georgia Southern all time rushing list, will continue to be the workhorse for the Eagles rushing attack. The Eagles offensive line is young, but averages 296 pounds, making it one of the heaviest lines in the nation. Coach Napier has said that the Eagles will not be running the ball quite as much as fans have been used to in the past few years, but that the ground game will be the emphasis. Napier has hinted at a continuation of the Spread Option attack.

Defense: The Georgia Southern defense is highlighted by a great group of defensive tackles who will set the tone for the season. Jay Ellison and Darrius Sapp will make it tought for teams to run on the Eagles. Behind that great defensive line is a solid group of linebackers lead by senior Ironhead Gallon who will be looking to have a breakout season. The Eagles secondary is very experienced, but remains the biggest question mark for the squad. Coach Napier has said that if the Eagles can be solid in pass defense he feels they've got a great shot at a conference championship.
