I want the deal to be realistic, so would it be realistic for the Cubs to deal Baez?
BTW I am in late June in year 2. Starlin Castro is hitting around .290/.328/.427

Cosart is a stud, I'd think he'd probably headline this deal. You should probably throw in McCullers/Folty-somethinortheother plus at least one more Prospect...

AC might be of more help here
    Chicago Cubs
    Michigan Wolverines

Cosart is positively icky. We're talking a Cubs/Astros deal here right? If Appel is performing that might work but realistically I can't see Baez getting dealt for anything the Astros have. They'd be more inclined to deal him for a stud, and then you have to bring in a 3rd team, and yadda yadda.

Depending on the situation, maybe Dodgers, Yankees, Cardinals...probably the same teams rumored with Lee and Price
        Chicago Cubs
        Michigan Wolverines

Yes this is a Cubs-Astros deal.
Do you think if I did a 3 team deal with the Phillies included and the Cubs get Lee and Cosart, would there be any way I get Baez, and I just send some nice prospects to Philli? I also have my eye on Junior Lake. The Cubs need a CF and I am willing to throw in Fowler who is having a good year, hitting .278 (not on right now so don't know other stats). That would make the Cubs a better contender pretty fast.

Only way I could imagine is if you ate Lee's salary.

Re: MLB 14 The Show Official Trade Discussion Thread

              [QUOTyear.nover; 2046421 380]Interesting - I'm pretty much in the same situation (9 1/2 out, 6 1/2 out of the WC) - and on a recent win streak...scary lol

However, it does say that if the Marlins do sell - Cishek, Dunn, McGehee are probable interesting pieces.

So my question still sorta stands.

I don't know if I should buy or sell, really. Yeah, could get back deeper into it, or lose 5 or 6 in a row again lol.

If I do turn into a buyer (wouldn't be looking for a SP - my Fernandez isn't out for the year and guys like Sanchez, Nicolino and going to try Henderson Alvarez again...which he was doing solidly like in real life..), I'd be into a 2B for sure (sorry Solano) - also like the idea of a solid AAA type who might be ready soon.

Gonna have to use the player search and see if there's any reasonable guys in my franchise that match that.[/QUOTE]

We will know for sure in less than a week but the 'local' take is that Cishek stays if nothing more than to show Stanton they are going to try again next year (there is still hope to sign him). Dunn should be gone but McGee only goes for decent pieces.

Dunn has some value as a lefty, find a playoff push team and see if you can get a promising middle infielder. Let me know what you come up with, I'm starting my Marlins next week.

Anyway to do that? The Cubs would be getting Lee. What would the Phillies want back prospect wise?

Okay, so. You're absorbing Lee's contract, which suppresses his value a bit. You can give them one of Santana, Feliz or Velazquez plus Tony Kemp or Delino DeShields for Lee. Then, you release Lee and turn waivers to manual. You let him pass, and sign him to the Cubs at a heavily discounted rate (you may have to edit his attributes). Finally, you trade Cosart for Baez. Sound good? Dunno how realistic all of this is but it isn't the worst thing that's ever happened I guess.

Sounds good. So is Velasquez and Tony Kemp enough for Lee? I think I'll threw in Feliz to feel better lol. Also I guess Baez for Cosart straight up is fair because they are getting Lee, correct me if I'm wrong. Also could I throw in Junior Lake or is that a bit of a stretch? Sorry for all the questions and thanks for the help so far

I wouldn't go for Lake. It's fair but you can throw in Feliz. In the end it looks like this:

Phillies get: Feliz, Velasquez, Kemp (clear Lee's salary)
Cubs get: Lee (salary eaten), Cosart
                      You get: Baez

Works for me. I'd rather keep Cishek, especially considering the season he's having for me right now.

Here's developing some middle infielders I found that I like and might be in reach. All teams are in the hunt for either the WC or Division.

                          SS Jace Peterson (SD) - 23, 72/B, AAA, .267/.340/.366

SS Chris Taylor (SEA), 23, 74/B, AAA, .264/.363/.334

Pie-in-the-sky-wishful-thinking SS Addison Russell - this roster doesn't have the real life trade the Cubs made to get him. I know I can't get him - just had to look at him though LOL

SS Danny Santana (MIN), 23, 73/B, AAA, .214/.265/.301 - needs some work probably but could be a doubles/triples monster in Marlins Park with his speed and with developed contact skills.

SS Hak-Ju Lee (TB), 23, 74/B, MLB, .251/.329/.322 - defense and speed type - plays everywhere - needs to work on bat, though.

SS Riley Unroe (TB), 18, 59/B, AA but no stats. Ways off but seems to have a solid base for a HS prospect.

I would through Dee Gordon on here but the Dodgers want the mint for him so...whatever.

Too bad getting Billy Hamilton would be unrealistic. I'd try to package to get him and would stick him at SS with his freaking 94 reaction...

Santana, Peterson, Lee seem to be the most attainable according to spreadsheet value (none of them are higher than B-). Unroe isn't listed, I know I can't get Russell, and Taylor isn't listed either.

Sorry to burst in so late on this, but this is an awful, awful trade idea. The composition makes no sense because the Cubs are getting taken to the woodshed. What good does taking on an old Cliff Lee do for a team that is a couple years away? And for their top prospect no less? Cosart is very mediocre. The Phillies are also getting quantity, but not quality. I think they could get a high B+ for Lee if Lee is doing anything at all in your chise (especially since this is another of those "eaten contract deals" that are gaining such popularity around here). And, not surprisingly, a user team getting Baez again for next to nothing. Bad. Bad. Bad deal. Not realistic in the slightest. Not fair either.

I really don't like making Jr. look smart but the above is about as fair as fair gets (even if I think Baez has the most bust potential of the current Cubs prospects). Would the same type of deal work for Russell or would Lee have to be replaced by Hamels?
