Re: Wiil USB Music Player allow for the return of SOTH?
I am trying to be optimistic but my money says SOTS in '14 will not recognize the USB. There is a 99.9% chance that SCEA had no idea in advance that Sony was going to create this make-shift USB player to allow '14 to play songs off of USB in this manner.
SOTS only plays songs that you put onto your hard drive and assign in the playlist creator in the game itself. Until this point, that is the only way the game will play the tracks. If you think about it, even the PS3 version of the Show wouldn't play songs off an external device like USB. They have to be copied to the HDD unfortunately.
The USB Player is going to be a separate application in itself and from what I've read, is the only thing that will be able to utilize the USB. For the life of me, I will never understand why Sony will not let us copy files to the HDD like any other device on the planet. Why go to the effort of creating the USB Player when you could have just replicated the PS3 use case.
The way I see it, the only two ways we get SOTS working in PS4 '15 is if Sony allows us to copy songs to HDD like we did with PS3 or SCEA finds a way to re-write the code to read songs for the USB. Sony needs to give us the same capabilities for music, video, DNLA like the PS3. Can't believe it has been 12 months and this is still an outstanding issue.
I'm praying there is another firmware update that will allow SOTS in '15 before SCEA closes the books on using it as a feature in this years upcoming game. Would a MP3 firmware release in January be too late for SCEA to test and include it in time for the game release?Last edited by wilb626; 10-25-2014, 11:44 PM.Comment

My own opinion is it is possible the Gen 1 PS4 system may never be able to have music added to the HDD. This may not necessarily be a firmware thing which is why it's been almost a year and we were still in this situation. If it were that easy it SHOULD have been done by now. I'm going to stay optimistic about it, but to this point it all looks bleek.Comment

I agree with this.

Nah man it's all business related. They go with this half *** solution for now to see if they can calm down the people who were screaming for mp3 support the most and still get revenue from their music service.
So we just gotta keep demanding mp3 support like how it was on the ps3.
No way the ps4 can't have mp3's added to the hdd. The ps4 is basically a pc in disguise."When it's all set and done, reality is the best innovation."Comment

Re: Wiil USB Music Player allow for the return of SOTS?
SCEA had to be aware of the 2.0 firmware. They're a first party studio and I'm sure since Russell started the thread about SOTS just before the MP3 announcement that it's at least something they're looking at. My guess is SCEA or Sony or both have some work ahead of them before SOTS on PS4 is a reality. I don't think MP3 USB is the magic bullet (not without some reprogramming at least) because I think it's likely that we would have heard at least a hint of something. Months back they said if PS4 implemented MP3 that they had the infrastructure in place to put SOTS in 14 with an update but I'm guessing the USB stuff makes it trickier if not impossible for 14 at least.Comment

Re: Wiil USB Music Player allow for the return of SOTH?
Yep no dice. Even if MP3 HDD was supported in the firmware, the game doesn't have a sub menu to assign music to the "Playlist Creator" as it does on the PS3 version to recognize the songs in the first place. The Show would have to provide an update for this to work, which in this stage will never happen.
Hopefully our boys at SCEA will know in advance from Sony whether or not MP3 HDD or USB Player will be the game's only option and will develop The Show '15 accordingly to give us SOTS back.
Bottom line is, Sony just threw this USB Player in the update to calm the community down for "MP3 Support". But obviously they feel the real next gen audience wants all these social and sharing applications. I for one, do not. I am praying that now they got these social apps out of the way, they will now focus on the core media, audio, video, pictures, etc features and hopefully get an update out no later than January so it could be a last minute add to '15. Fingers crossed.
I will say, there is just something about playing music, videos, movies on a playstation that just feels awesome! I have to admit I jammed out on the USB Music Player just to give myself some small satisfaction.
But there is no doubt that the PS4 is capable of giving us all of the core media playback there is to offer. SONY JUST HAS TO GIVE IT TO US!!!!Last edited by wilb626; 10-28-2014, 09:12 AM.Comment

Re: Wiil USB Music Player allow for the return of SOTH?
Just because it doesn't work right now, doesn't mean SCEA couldn't release a patch that puts the functionality back in.
However, I'm still pessimistic about it and pissed off at Sony for begrudging us such a half-assed "solution" to all of our requests for mp3 functionality.Comment

Re: Wiil USB Music Player allow for the return of SOTH?
Saw this just now. I think there is promise for MP3 on PS4 HDD in the near future . Here is Sony's take as to why they pushed out the USB Player instead of MP3 copy to HDD. Goes back to my earlier take that they needed to just get something in place for MP3 in time for the 2.0 release.
At first when I read this, I was still ticked thinking Sony just wants to keep the community paying for Music/Video Unlimited and who knows when will get music & video on the HDD so that they can make a buck.
Now I think we should be in good shape as they mention the demand for it in the article and if they have already given us the ability to play our own music then it shows they are somewhat ready to concede the Music/Video Unlimited-only route. Because why would you pay for music with Music Unlimited now, when you can play your own music through the USB Player....
Just a thought...

That link pretty much confirms that MP3 Hard Drive support is definitely coming in the future to the PS4
