    Re: Directional Hitting

Just another thought since I brought it up, they could also mimic All Star Baseball's cursor.

Didn't appreciate it enough, though. Same reasons as any other system: couldn't homer if you didn't tilt the thing or use power. Also, aiming it in a direction brought it in that direction, period and end of story.

Obviously The Show could do different by that, though. Maybe they would do it more like Home Run King for Gamecube, since the PCI is similar.

The biggest reason I never used cursor batting in any game, and always used timing, is because in real life, there is no cursor! Lol, baseball is all about... wait for it... timing!!!

I know! Lol, but I'm just talking about cursor hitting. Of course in real life it's about a lot more than timing, but moving a cursor to a point before a pitch is thrown is not very realistic.

Also, in real life, batters hit with a bat, not a playstation controller.

                    No?

So batters don't move their bat to the point in the zone where the ball is? What would you compare that to if not a cursor?

                      Re: Directional Hitting

Zone hitting with the PCI set to invisible feels completely cursor-less, for the better. In fact, I have trouble using cursor with analog control. Only in games like 2K3, PYS, Power Pros, ASB, etc. with the digital option were actually manageable for me to line up something. Once zone hitting came onto the scene though, I had completely changed my perspective on what the best option was.

Directional hitting has been around for a while, now. The Triple Play games started to use it around 2000 or so. MVP undoubtedly had a great working engine (2004 had some issues with lefties), but directional hitting is not employed as a pitch is coming, only before (in real life). You're right about the opposite effect in a way, too... most people will swing in the zone where it's pitched, not guess beforehand. You can look in/out, etc., but you still have to follow the ball's flight path to confirm where it's headed, and you don't just get to line it up with a visual aid.

kehlis, I think all he meant to say was we hit with our eyes more than our hands. I have a post that differentiates zone hitting from cursor hitting really well, where cursor feels a lot more like little league and zone feels a lot more like being a professional hitter. I'll dig a bit and see if I can find it, because it explains it quite well.

                        Re: Directional Hitting

I mainly don't use cursor anymore because compared to a clear screen, I hate the aesthetic of visual "aid" while batting. You can do everything you need to do in the game without having any of that visual aid in the way so I've just grown out of it.

It actually simplifies the game alot more, so I'd encourage alot more people to try disabling the pci cursor, strike zone and especially hot and cold zone and you might find the game easier to play. The least thing you need while trying to hit is distraction in front of you or something that causes hesitation.

                          Re: Directional Hitting

I guess what I mean is moving it before the pitch is thrown is not realistic. Batters react and move the bat in that split second of reaction, the pitcher doesn't say, "it's going here, quick, get your bat in place!"

I use Timing myself. Pushing 63 the hand eye ain't what it used to be. Used to play cursor hitting in PYS but gave it up. Too hard for me and I refuse to lower pitch speed.

Yeah, I don't know if a lot of people do that, but any baseball game I play, I put pitch speeds all the way up.
