I think I stated my directional hitting qualm incorrectly earlier. The problem wasn't just that low pitches weren't ever rewarded with home runs, the other problem was that little guys never would hit home runs and big guys would too often. I don't think this game is in the "aim up for home run" kind of mindset, but that's how I always feel it is with these systems.

I'd rather play zone, even though it's not true zone.
See for me "aim up for home run" (or at least fly ball) seems more natural to me. Aiming at a pitch down and in, would not result in alot of balls in the air. But if I pull up with a lefty on a ball down and in, he is going to try and lift it with Directional Hitting.

The dude in the video that used to play baseball (forget his name) described what I was trying to say...

When you are at the dish you influence pitches without necessarily changing where you "aim" your bat. I think this Directional Hitting option does that.

I just hope you can take off the yellow indicators that pop up when you select the direction...

I completely understand what you're trying to say. Let me make sure I can clarify two points with that, though:

      1) First of all, I wish they had an invert option. Maybe "aiming down" can mean "try and get underneath the ball." That way it still remains zone-ish, and you're trying to undercut a low pitch to get lift. Not as a fly ball, but as a line drive. I have some long post with a table that kind of breaks down what it is you would be trying to do with each kind of pitch depending on the pitch location and swing type, because I have to be honest I don't think one game has come even close to properly replicating directional hitting.

      2) I still hear "lift" as "fly ball" to developers, and maybe I'm playing off the wrong assumption but let's hypothetically say that's what they mean. If that's the case, any time Giancarlo Stanton comes to the plate, it would almost seem foolish of me not to aim up, as if I'm running the risk of him potentially not hitting a dinger. On the other hand, if Dee Gordon is at the plate, I would feel ridiculously stupid to aim up because I am running a massive risk of not only not hitting a home run, but just popping up/flying out. In other games with this form of directional hitting, this creates a spectral difference in the home run statistic between power hitters and non-power hitters because of user input.

There are ways to remedy this, and The Show only might have #2 addressed. But from the way where they still say "aim up creates lift" and they say that it's more beneficial to hit high pitches with, I highly doubt that said system is in place. Too many lurking variables and I will certainly test them out when I get the game, but I would be hard-pressed to predict that in its current form I would get even close to touching directional hitting in the long run. It was a gamebreaker for me when it came to the MVP series and MLB 2K7, etc. Just an unfavored option in general. As long as it's not the only option, always I'll feel better about "that other option."

If we still play with Zone batting, can we still use the right analog to influence the type of hit? Is that basically the same result as directional hitting?

The right stick swing influence does not exist anymore. We recently learned it had been out of the game for a couples years now.

Ok, well I guess that's why it never seemed to work that great last year lol.

Why does the stick vibrate when you do it then? That's kind of messed up.

I play zone analog and all the right stick does this year as far as I can tell is if you press right or left you contact swing and down then up for power. It doesn't seem that you need to time your stride at all anymore which is disappointing to me. I just power swing at everything now.
