Re: Analog hitting changed or not?
Poor Nemesis, let's see if this will help.
There are 2 input options: analog or button.
After you pick one of those, you can choose either zone or timing (again, either option is available for both analog and button).
If you pick timing (for either analog or button), you can use directional hitting. If you pick zone (for either), you cannot use directional hitting.
Does that help? I know Nemesis has already explained all this, but maybe wording it slightly differently will help some who are struggling. My apologies in advance if this ends up making it worse.Comment

Re: Analog hitting changed or not?
The issue this thread was addressing is analog hitting forced to be simplified with up flick for swings or down-up for power swinging. Completely eliminating the way an obviously insignificant portion of users play the game.Red LegendComment

My guess is that Analog with zone will be the same as the old Analog+Zone interface with the exception of no more striding (just flick up)? While timing is pretty similar to the old Pure analog except you just flick up?
Then Button+Zone is the same as Zone is now and Timing+Zone is similar to timing is now with the addition of directional hitting?
I have no idea which one I will want to use....Comment

Re: Analog hitting changed or not?
From what I remember, the UI provides the following options (which might be slightly different from what Nem is suggesting, i.e., Directional is timing only, so there might be some miscommunication there... and there's no guarantee that the UI had been finalized at the CD event).
Hitting Interface (Directional or Zone) and Input Type (Button or Analog) are separated in the UI. There, you can choose the following combinations:
(1) Directional with Button
(2) Directional with Analog
(3) Zone with Button
(4) Zone with Analog
(5) Pure Analog (this was available at the CD, but I don't know if it is to be removed or how it works; analog hitting wasn't working properly at the duration of the CD event, so from the ongoing conversations I wouldn't be surprised if this gets removed...)
Using (1), if you don't use directional input works like the traditional Timing hitting. (2) is the new timing-based analog hitting. (If there were true, then it seems to suggest that Directional can be used with Analog input. But I really am not sure at the moment.)
Using (3) is the traditional Zone hitting. (4) is the Zone Analog with new analog modifications.
Looking at the Gameplay Settings screen from the most recent stream, I think Directional allows either Button or Analog to be used as input.
At least that's what I remember of how the UI breaks things down.Comment

Re: Analog hitting changed or not?
How come people were saying they took out Zone+Analog then? Did they make a huge change to this?
I watched both streams, but they really didn't go into depth for the hitting interfaces. I just saw the 2 input options and 2 interface options.
I'd like to hear more on directional hitting. If you are looking for an inside pitch, what happens if you swing at something away with good timing and contact? Do you get punished for this?
Also, for analog and directional hitting where you just flick up....do you just hit straight up or do you still have to move the analog inside/outside depending on where the pitch is?Comment

Re: Analog hitting changed or not?
Yeah I think I get it. Thanks.
I just want to know what will be allowed for online. I hope Analog+Timing is not allowed where you simply hit "up" thats all you worry about. No stride timing or PCI placement to worry about it.Comment

Re: Analog hitting changed or not?
I hope to write up my impression on Directional Hitting at some point, but I think your major confusion is just on how Analog as an input type works. Nem has written quite a bit on this already, but basically old Pure Analog type control on PCI is gone from Analog "input type." With Analog input type, you use R3 to control the timing of initiating the swing and the type of swing (Contact, Normal, Power). If you want any control over PCI placement, you do that through L3 (with Zone) or through influence via Directional hitting (which also uses L3). That's it.
It's a very necessary question to ask considering what already has been removed from analog hitting controls so far.Red LegendComment

Re: Analog hitting changed or not?
Well that's the second question many others, me included, have. How is analog zone built to use left stick to do both pci placement and directional influence. With their emphasis on Directional Hitting being a new feature this year, it was a reasonable assumption that L3 would only control directional swing based on how the control system has been explained to us so far. This is what hasn't been made clear yet.

Re: Analog hitting changed or not?
After reading through this thread I'm beginning to think that SCEA removed Pure Analog hitting simply to avoid the kind of confusion that could arise from having multiple analog controls schemes. Now, more than everComment

Re: Analog hitting changed or not?
While there are a handful of people on OS who might not like it there could be 300k who love the change that don't post here. See the predicament? We can't judge the popularity of something good or bad entirely by what people post on forums because we are talking about a very very small % of the user base that's vocal.
That's really the 64 thousand dollar question here... It had already been in the game for years, so what is there to be gained from completely removing it?
And let's say I become invested in one of these new hitting methods. Do I need to worry about it being scraped in two years because there aren't enough people using that particular control scheme?
That may sound a little melodramatic, but I put hundreds upon hundreds of hours into The Show every year, and finding a control scheme that you love and gel with like some of us did with pure analog is no small thing.
I know the handful of us complaining here on OS represent a minuscule fraction of MLB The Show customers, but there could just as easily be thousands of people not posting here that will be scratching there heads when they go to play their first pure analog-less game of '15.
And for what? Couldn't it have just as easily been left in the game as an extra option? If not, let us know why... You already have my 60$.Now, more than everComment
