But I was always under the impression that baseball managers needed to be masters at controlling their emotions, well at least as far as controlling them towards their players. Umpires ... umpires are fair game, if you don't mind getting tossed from the game.
This year managing the Rockies will definitely test my patience. On opening day my team spanked the Brewers 12-2, followed by a dominant 6-0 win in the 2nd game of the series. However in the 3rd game, the team's bats went silent as the Brewers Matt Garza one hit the club in a 1-0 loss. Sort of a shame because my starter Jordan Lyles actually pitched very well in that game. But I could just tell that I was going to lose that game and I was happy one of my batters got a hit off of Garza to break up the no-hitter (Garza did walk three in the game). Then in my home opener against the Cubs yesterday. The team looked good going into the 5th inning with a 3-2 lead. But then the wheels fell off the bus when my starter Jorge de la Rosa started walking batters followed by giving up a 3-run big fly ultimately losing the game 9-4. I have a good offensive team, but my pitching staff is the worst in the league and if yesterday's game is any indication, I don't think I will have a whole lot of home field advantage at Coors Field this year. But yelling at my players isn't going to help. They don't listen to me anyway.
