You know what the crazy thing is? I now play at 10 pitch speed with this batting camera...... AND Zone Analog interface. And I do fine actually.

Re: Anyone play on 10 pitch speed?
I've settled with it on 8, can't remember if I tried 10 on the PS4 era. 8 I find a satisfying challenge without going overboard. I'd figure that 10 might not be the appropriate slider because sitting 4-20 feet away from a TV plus using a batting camera that's 3rd person opposed to some 1st person angle, it's not appropriate to me that 10 should be setting, even if in fact it is authentic. 8 seems to be just the perfect place for the slider in my view. However, with so many players saying it's comfy enough to use 10 I might just give it a try in some of the training modes and I'll evaluate what I think of it.Red LegendComment

Re: Anyone play on 10 pitch speed?
This is information I gathered when I was at community day in 2012. I know things have been adjusted since then but it can be somewhat of a rough guide:
At default pitch speed on all-star difficulty, a 90 mph fastball is about 80 mph visually. The slider system is a 10 point system (5 clicks above and below default) Each click represents about a 1.5mph+/- change in speed visually. HOF and Legend start 2-3 mph higher than default all star. I believe rookie and veteran start 2-3 mph lower than all star default.“The saddest part of life is when someone who gave you your best memories becomes a memory”Comment

Re: Anyone play on 10 pitch speed?
With that said then, on Legend difficulty with a 10 speed slider, a 90 mph fastball would visually be 90.5 mph maximum visually. With my slider at 8 it's an 87.5 mph visual difference. In reality, that is a significant enough difference. So it might be worth the challenge to upgrade.
My expereriences at 8, all fastballs are a challenge to catch up with when it comes to putting in play but too often for my taste I end up fouling a FB. That's not entirely fake, because FBs are easy to track, and I don't want to unnecessarily whiff and strikeout just because of a control scheme issue.
At 8 pitchers of a 97mph and up velocity are the ones that are nearest to impossible to beat for me, and this is with all hitting sliders at a zero except for power which is default. 97 mph would convert to 94.5 or so on the 8 scale. I think I can handle the change to a 10 pretty comfortably now that I think.
I must add though, the PS4 seems to have an overall slower feeling velocity than the PS3 so I'm not too confident that scale is still the same way right now. If true, that might be by design or it may be an impression due to the animation and graphical enhancement that the PS4 brings. Anyhow, that's my impression, but I still think it's worth upping the challenge anyway.Last edited by @legendm0de; 03-26-2015, 03:55 PM.Red LegendComment

Re: Anyone play on 10 pitch speed?
So my 10 on all-star is only around 88 for a 90? I'm hardly late on them. On legend I was late when looking for something else, but legend and timing do not go together.“No one is more hated than he who speaks the truth.”

Wait.... you saying on harder difficulty levels, the pitch comes in faster on 10 speed? crazy.Comment

Re: Anyone play on 10 pitch speed?
I have pitch speed set to 0 on legend with contact and timing at 0.
When I hook up to a monitor I have to bump pitch speed to 8 to equal my TV at 0. I don't like playing on the monitor because it feels like cheating it's too easy to hit. I usually only use it for COTW.Comment

Re: Anyone play on 10 pitch speed?
I usually mess with pitch speed but end up leaving it at 5. I'm excited about getting back into the slider game this year. I know we used to do pitch speed at 10 but for most people it just is too much. It depends how differently pitches break this year.Comment

Re: Anyone play on 10 pitch speed?
I asked one of my friends who is a pretty high ranked player in a few PC FPS games and he said that all he cares about is input lag and everything else doesn't matter to him. So he buys his monitors with only that in mind, he could care less about how the image looks.
He also plays a lot of console sports games, mostly The Show and he said that he only plays on default pitch speed because he wants to only ever see one speed when going from offline to online. But with the timing not being a perfect match anyways when playing online I wonder if that really matters that much. I might try his approach anyways and just leave pitch speed at default at all times.Comment

I play with it on 10 for offline to get a challenge and keep it realistic. My offline games are more challenging and realistic than my online games, sadly.Comment

Re: Anyone play on 10 pitch speed?
Well pitch speed varies on all difficulties, so going from DD to online ranked on legend/hof can even mess with your timing. It feels like the slider is on 3 or 4 for online too lol.

Well I definitely see where he is coming from. It takes a little while to make that adjustment going from online to offline or vice versa, but I'd rather actually be challenged and keep it realistic when I play offline ya know?Comment

The ball seems to act a lot more genuinely for me, making me feel alot more similar to the timing of what I see when watching on tv or in person.Certain pitches on speed 8, like the changeup seem more convincing now on pitch speed 10 (see the changeup and curveball thrown in incl. video for reference). It's something users would really only pick up by extensive periods on both setups like myself. So I'll basically say this, 8 is a very satisfying mode but 10 just completes it for me. I see less wierd and awkward kind of things at 10.
It's certainly faster, but not a daunting mode to play if you're already on 8 especially. If you're on 5 and interested in moving up, 10 will kill you, but 8 is a great place to bridge you to 10 for sure. To cap this off I'll share a taste of the highest pitch speed the game offers and we can glimpse how it turns out.

By comparison, here is footage of speed on 8 vs 3 David Price fastballs. Bear in mind the velocity should be higher than James Shields. I personally feel compared with 10 Price's FB hangs just a tad of a moment longer enough for me to track it just a lick better than I could if this were on 10. I was locked in for the AB so I can't decide whether the result would be the same or not on 10, but I still can notice the difference between the two experiences.
