Re: MLB 15 : Road to the Show Thread

Have a closer with the Diamondbacks organization. Drafted #1 overall.

Just had a Fernando Rodney Experience (for you Mariner fans). Came in to start the ninth up by a couple of runs. First batter up I walk. Second batter up proceeds to bunt and for some reason I throw it to the 3rd baseman. Okay, getting nervous, tying run on first with no outs. Third batter up, he bunts and the catcher decides to hang on to the ball!

Alrighty then, bases loaded. No outs and up by two. No problem.

    Next batter up - K
    Next batter up - K
    Next batter up - K

Bout filled my pants when I got that last K.

One of the best innings I've experienced with this game.
    Make #FranchiseNation great again!

This thing called Twitter I do sometimes

    What's your thoughts? It's a game.

Re: MLB 15 : Road to the Show Thread

Well it's time for my first and longest RTTS update of the season. As I do every year, I'm coming to give an in depth first report on the start of my RTTS careers, hope y'all I enjoy.

For years I've only played as SP, 1B or 3B in RTTs. Last year I broke that mold and played as a catcher which I intended to continue this season, but I deleted my mlb14 off of my hard drive in order to have room for 15. Well doing so made it impossible to download my cloud files so I had to restart. i decided to try and make a 40-40 player this season, so I'm playing as a SS for the first time in RTTS and finally started my pitcher tonight.

      SS
I made my SS in the mold of Tulo and then used my collectors edition stubs to get his speed up to 90 to start with. I had a solid showcase, although most of my hits were singles. I entered the draft and was drafted 3rd ovr by the Rangers. Since they have Andrus, I decided to reload the save and join my home town and SS needy Buccos. I dominated in AA hitting .445 with 15 hrs and 13 steals in just 180 ABs. After 43 games and Jordy Mercer hitting .166 The Pirates purchased my contract straight from AA and had me hitting #2 between Marte and Cutch. The Majors have been an up and down experience in the early going as I'm sitting at .280 with only 3 extra base hits (2hr and 1 2b) threw 15 MLB game, although I have managed to swipe 8 bases in the early going.

      SP
Ever since RTTS was introduced, SP has been my bread and butter, as I have played at least 8 seasons as a SP every single year. This mode has helped me become a better overall player and pretty dominate pitcher in any mode (online era is currently 1.93 after 10 games). I've been focused on my SS, but finally started my SP tonight.

Anyway as I do every year; I started with RFB, Circle Change and Slider. I have said for years and still insist this is not just the best combo of pitches in the game, but these are the overall best 3 pitches in the game if you want a strike out pitcher. RFB can be thrown 100 plus and break as much as a 2SFB which is why it is always my favorite fast ball to use. Combining it with a Circle Change which has a similar break (and wicked break) makes them both deadly and overall the slider is still probably the most dominate pitch in the game, if you are using a delivery with the right arm angles (yes despite what some people think, your delivery has an impact on the angle and break of pitches. To those of you who disagree: SUCK IT!) To this point Adam Wrainwright has my favorite delivery as all of my pitches break perfectly and the delivery is easily repeatable (I like meter pitching). Gerrit Cole and J. Zimmerman have good deliveries as well, although I have found zims inconsistent.

After giving up 2 earned runs in my first showcase inning, I dominated, racking up 13ks over my 9 showcase innings not allowing another run and only 1 walk. I was drafted #2 overall and signed with the Rockies. In my first start in AA, I managed to do something it took me nearly 3 full seasons to do last year. With a 56 OVR pitcher and on hall of fame, I managed to throw a 16 k no hitter. So after my first start and with the Rockies lackluster pitching, I have high hopes that this will be the first time I manage to get both my position player and SP to the majors before the allstar break.

Sorry for the length guys, this will be my only absurdly long update, I promise.

One last thought to those of you bulding pitches. I think the circle change is the best it's ever been this year. I had 13 of my 16 Ks with it last game and dominate with it in every mode. After 10 years, It might finally have replaced the slider as my go to pitch in MLB.

Thanks for the write up on why you like the RFB-slider-circle change combo.

I actually use the slider & circle change but had been using a 2-seam, I just switched from 2-seam to RFB. I also love to use a cutter. So if I have those 4 pitches, anything you'd recommend for a 5th pitch? As of right now I've got a knuckle curve

The cutter is always my 4th pitch as well. I like having it to pair with the RFB so I have that hard pitch to break in on the hands of lefties. 5th pitch I usually use either a splitter or 12-6 curve. This is mostly because with my first 4 pitches I have two that break each way. Slider and cutter have similar break(angles) as do RFB and Circle change. So for my last pitch I usually find something that drops straight, just to give batters a different look. It usually takes me a while before I add on a pitch as I make sure that the first 3 are maxed to my liking first.

Okay its that time of the year for us RTTS junkies to get our fix on. I have about 6 players to transfer over from 14 and I will create a another 4-5 more which should keep me busy till 16 comes.

Just saw something really cool. I hit a line drive into the gap and was going for a triple when the outfielder threw the ball it was a terrible throw so i was in easily. Turns out he hurt his elbow and had to go for an MRI i had never seen that before

With my RttS player, drafted by the Yankees, currently in AAA, but this post isn't about my player. Got an alert after the game informing the Yankees traded Tanaka to Baltimore for Machado

They had traded Headley a week or so earlier for a reliever or something. I guess there were bigger plans in the works.

Bought this game on Friday and been having a good time with it ever since. The first baseball game I played in a very long time.

Made a SS and I had a great first game debut in the showcase with 6 AB, 4 H, 1 HR, and 8 RBI, everything after this was terrible. Was a projected 3 round but I went back to college for 2 years, did the showcase again and I did terrible but ended up going to the Marlins.

Any tips for hitting and getting more fielding opportunity?

Only played about 4-8 games in the AA and I'm batting .167, with 1 HR, and 4 RBI. I know it terrible, I been doing well with not swinging at everything. My power is a 42 and my contact is a 15. Plate vision and discipline are both a 60. I usually do the normal swing unless it is a Hitter count. I barely get struck out also, just that everytime I get good contact on the ball, it get caught.

Should I spend my points on increasing my Power or Contact?

after a mediocre showing in the showcase center fielder Cameron "Fulton" Fullerton was selected in the sixth round, as he was a very low profile prospect coming straight out of high school the announcers failed to learn his name resulting in his now endearing nick name fulton

in the sixth round the rockies took a flyer on ter power hitter out of texas and they never looked back, in aa ball Fullerton hit at .395 with 20 hr 101 rbis and 23 sb before being lifted to aaa after the all star game here he would hit at .386 with 10 hr 23 rbi and 13 sb leading the isotopes into the playoffs where they would ultimately lose to the aces

after signing a 2 year 77000 contract Fullerton competed in spring training where he earned the backup job as an outfield alternate over top rockies prospect david dahl

and so the regular season began Fullerton came off of the bench as a ph or pr and got the occasional start for the first 25ish games until he was inserted into the starting lineup as the new left fielder, he had been batting .360 with 4 hr and 11 rbi with 9 sb
in his first game as an everyday starter Fullerton showed why hes up in the big leagues hitting 3 homers against Andrew Cashman a pitcher who in this short season has already seen far to much of the Rockies new star

The Rockies currently sit at 18-21 but have been climbing since Fullerton entered the starting lineup going from last in the division to 3rd

You gotta get those contact ratings up. Hold off on putting points into anything else until your contact ratings are both in the 40's. Then you can go back to spreading them around.

When I'm first starting off I max out most of my bonus points on three things, contact, plate vision & plates discipline. I think it makes a more enjoyable & realistic experience. You don't see 18 or 19 year old prospects pounding 30 or 40 home runs.
