Re: highlights
There's a highlight option, but it's movie maker and replay vault, not the traditional end of game highlights. At least that's what it's been for the 2 games I've played.
So essentially it's what it was last year, minus the full auto end of game highlights.
Curious removal, and one of my favorite parts of the game.Comment

Re: highlights
I thought I was losing it I was sure I saw highlight option but ya I just tried it and it's just the replay vault or movie maker like bkrich said.2016 NLL Champion Saskatchewan Rush

Re: highlights
This is probably as close as you'll ever see me get to a rant on The Show, because it is my favorite game and I respect the dev team too much to lash out.
Well, that is disappointing. That highlight reel has been one of my favorite aspects of the game's presentation since the PS3 days.
I have to wonder if the reason it was taken out is the same justification that SCEA uses when things are removed/changed - It wasn't used. We know SCEA has data on what features are used and accessed, but in this case the numbers may not tell the whole story. I admit I'm kind of an odd bird, but for me a large majority of my time spent in the game is in quick games, either playing, slider testing, or watching CPU vs CPU. For those games, I would rarely watch the postgame reel - because my only interest was in seeing how the game was playing. All told, I'd be shocked if the number of times I actually watched the reel vs how many total games of the Show '14 that I played even got over 3%. BUT....when I would play season, franchise or RTTS I would watch and enjoy it nearly every time. It was a big part of that experience - especially after a big walkoff win or an outstanding individual performance.
Of course I'm not even a small drop in the bucket (more like the ocean), and even the total number of public consumption slider makers/testers probably adds up to almost nothing, but if there ARE others in the same boat, then we may have inadvertently caused the removal of that feature. I feel like the context of when a feature like this is accessed cannot be determined from just the raw numbers, and I want to believe those numbers may have gotten skewed even slightly by people who played the game similar to the way I do. Most of all, I want to believe I wasn't part of the problem.
I also hope it wasn't removed because they're nearing capacity on the PS4, but that's a possibility too, I suppose. I'd be awfully surprised if they've reached the saturation point already, and have to remove things in order to put new ones in.
All the speculating about why it's gone aside, I do think there's going to be some kind of backlash from this, and not just from the "HAHA, SCEA never takes anything out of the game" crowd. I think a lot of us that buy the game every year are going to miss this for when we go to enjoy our seasons and franchises.
Hopefully the tools are still in the game to create our own highlights (particularly the "pause recording" button on the replay screen which enabled camera cuts). Obviously the vault is and we have PS4's video capture and ShareFactory, but there were a lot of shots in those auto-reels that you just couldn't duplicate with the replay vault. I'm the type that will still keep a record of the memorable plays and performances I'm sure to have with this year's game. But there was just something about the game taking care of all that. The logic that went into picking out the best plays was more often than not spot on - as a result of tuning the feature for many years.
People already cite the Show's presentation as one of its weakest points even before this, and while I tend to disagree with that view on the whole unfortunately I think the in-game presentation took a rather large step back with this omission.Comment

Re: highlights
Nice rant ... no ... post, bcruise, especially about the numbers taken out of context being possibly very misleading. That's always something that anyone who deals with data needs to keep in mind.
Although I do like the highlight reel feature and often used it in my first couple years of The Show, I haven't been using it too much the last couple years only because I've pretty much exhausted all the patterns that I could see in the feature already. (Playing the game almost every day for a few years, it is bound to happen quickly.) And the logic to choose what goes into highlight hasn't really changed much over the last few years.
Being an occasional CD attendee, I should probably have brought the point to the devs at the time, given that I also felt a bit disappointed when I couldn't find the option. (The same thing actually goes with Pure Analog change.) I feel sorry for not being able to do my part in that regard, if I could actually have been one who also represented your voice.
However, I hope we turn this omission into something positive, as in how a potentially revamped highlight reel feature can be re-introduced in future.
(Or if this was actually a mistake... could this simply be patched...?)Comment

Re: highlights
Shame its gone but hope it comes back with some improvements, sound effects instead of music played in the background and would like the highlights presented how they are shown in the replays during the game. Also a lot of time's replays would be cut short on longer plays.
It's something i don't think has improved much in sport's game's over the years, when consoles got HDD i thought they would have limitless room to save/store more/longer replays but it doesn't seem like any developers use the HDD in this way. It's also why i always thought, dreaming in the end i guess, we would get daily/weekly highlight type shows in our sports franchise's.Comment

Re: highlights
I'm not going to lie, I never used the highlight reel. I liked when it would automatically play, but I haven't used it since you had to select it manually. I occasionally use the replay vault if I want to see a long homer or something.Comment

Re: highlights
Am I the only one in this thread that remembers how the game would crash on a considerable basis during the highlight reel in 11-13?
Perhaps it's just an OCD streak in me but since losing several full games during the highlights, I X through them. Always. Without question.
It just wasn't worth the possible ramifications.
I do feel bad for people that had good luck with them and liked them. But the highlights just weren't varied enough and offered (to me, at least) no additional feeling of a sense of accomplishment.
The idea is good in theory but I personally didn't feel like it was ever executed very well.Comment
