If you are watching CPU vs CPU then manual fielding has nothing to do with that game. You are right manual fielding uses player ratings. But not to the effect of Auto. And both those controls only matter for users. The CPU is always auto.

Umm not to sound condescending but isn't that the point of video games? You're still manipulating that same small controller when you're batting or pitching.

I don't have much time to play(wife,work)....I'm hoping to start a quick franchise soon. I normally play manual fielding, with the defensive camera on medium. I tried the manual fielding with broadcast defensive camera this year, and I loved the camera ! The ball seemed to get up on me in a hurry when a gapper was hit...I noticed a couple of times,my reaction in the outfield was not too good with the broadcast camera. I may have to go back to "medium" fielding camera. Also,I read a post ..... If you play manual fielding,it seems the wrong fielder is picked initially sometimes for me in the outfield on a deep shot...I have had to switch outfielders numerous times,by that time the ball was down for a triple. This seems to be an issue this year. Does anyone know if this is patchable ??

I think it was because that one had the ability to design your own stadium I believe.
The reason that EA made the MVP College game was that 2K bought the 'exclusive' MLB license just like EA did for football. The difference being that MLB also allowed companies that made consoles to use MLB branding, hence the birth of SONY's SCEA. (Microsoft decided not to to make their own baseball game.)

I don't take it as condescending at all

There seems to be a divide between people that want total control over each aspect versus those who want limited control and For the ratings to have a greater impact

Example: I have Trevor Plouffe as my SS. He's a very average defender. It is very noticeable in game that he is average and he doesn't make amazing plays often. If I took control of Plouffe I would greatly enhance his ability to the point where I make his defensive attributes almost meaningless.

This same mentality carries over to pitching and hitting for me as well. There's a pretty big group at OS that wants the ratings to mean more than user input.

If people take pride in their ability to manipulate the controller to have success and display their user skills than more power to them.

I personally don't want my user skills to be more important than player ratings. I get enjoyment out of this mix and the show is incredible at giving it to us.

The point of this game for me is simple entertainment. If I want to field a ground ball I can go outside and do that.

I've used it before and enjoyed it, but don't anymore.

Is there a way to do that infield feet-first slide fielding animation?

Re: How many use "Auto Fielding" vs. going it on their own?

I have always been a manual fielding/throwing guy. But after reading through this thread and seeing a lot of positive comments for using it, I'm gonna give it a go the next time I boot up my Indians franchise. Hope to see more animations that I might not have seen by manually fielding. But if I get to missing the satisfaction of timing a great dive on a grounder or robbing a homerun, I'll be switching back. Either way, excited to give this a try later today.

                    Auto fielding manual throwing.

Now in RTTS, my outfielder looks like a little leaguer at times.

I switched to auto fielding recently and I do notice some minor differences. The main one is with hits close the 2nd base bag. I could never catch up to the ball on assisted but on auto the majority of the time the SS or 2B will catch up to it. I've tried diving but most the time on assisted the fielder will quit on the ball to soon.

Came in and voted manual. After seeing the results I decided to use auto. I love it. Don't think I'll be going back. I already use timing and classic to maximize ratings. I don't know why I wasn't using this from the start.

I can tell a big difference in watching my fielders on my Braves team compared to my Twins team in my two franchises. Simmons and Barney are two great SS defensively.

                            I have a question?

Does autofielding, baserunning switch to manual when playing online just curious?

How do you figure that? Garbage defenders are still garbage defenders on manual fielding, guys make errors, this argument is almost for manual fielding, because there's a much higher chance of Trevor Plouffe not taking the right route or messing up if you controlled him then if the CPU does

Yup ...auto really allows the range of fielders to get to balls my manual input won't get to.
