Re: Official MLB 16 : Road to the Show Thread

Finished off the 3rd season of my career. We made it to the World series went down 3-1 then came back to force a Game 7. Game 7 we ended up losing I think 6-4. (Playing as the Giants)

Brandon Belt won Postseason MVP and he earned it. But I was really the only one that showed up in the World Series. I hit a 2 run home run in Game 6 that gave us a 1 run lead in the 9th inning which forced game 7. I had driven in our runs earlier that got us close enough to take the lead.

In game 4 5 6 and 7 I had 3+ hits in each game basically doing everything I could to keep us from losing. Everyone else decided to finally how up in Game 7 but it wasnt enough. Ranger won in 7.

Prior to the postseason I won the NL Batting Title and Silver Slugger for outfield.

Numbers for the season, I averaged .366/.403/.591 with 24 home runs and 91 RBI's. Also had 28 stolen bases.

In the off season I signed a 3 year 24.6M extension which will leave me with 2 arbitration years at the end. I would have been eligible for arbitration after this next season but I figure this (Maybe) gives the team a discount (I dont know much about arbitration.

May give zone hitting a try in spring training, my guy is up to a 98 overall.

In this season my main goal is to be a better fielder I have the attributes for it (90 Fielding, 90 Reaction 91 Arm Strength/Accuracy) but it has always been my weak point since moving to the out field.

Team is regressing a lot so after this year any postseason pushes will be a stretch since the Giants decided to go on a spending spree and handed out big extensions to Cueto, Posey, Crawford, and Belt all of which are in their 30's.

Panik's contract expires this season and Im hoping we dont bring him back because I would love to move to 2nd base.

Good season. I'm just starting my 3rd season as the center fielder for the Mariners. We lost to the Giants in the World Series as well during my first year (got called up in early August). That World Series trip was mostly luck. The team got hot at the right time. My player was mediocre, hitting .282 in the postseason with 1 homer. During the season I was even worse, only hitting .240 with 7 homers during my 2 months in the big leagues.

During my second season (first full year in the majors) I hit .310/.372/.491 with 22 homers, 69 RBI, 108 Runs, and 157 stolen bases. I hit lead off for most of the year. My RBIs were low mostly do to my pathetic .262 BA with runners in scoring position. I guess I choke a bit in those situations. I started feeling a bit guilty that stolen bases were so easy with 95 speed and 75 base stealing. However, the stolen base record was enticing and I went for it (got 1000 training points for breaking it). We went to the World Series again and swept the Dodgers. It was a fantastic run. I hit .336 with 4 homers in the postseason. I almost won the postseason MVP. I fell off a bit in the World Series however and Nelson Cruz took the award.

For fielding in the outfield, I've started using showtime to see where the ball is hit. It's a bit difficult sometimes to see where the ball is headed, especially if the crowd is wearing white clothes. When the ball is pitched, I hold down R2 to slow things down and give me a better jump. Maybe that would be considered cheating but I made too many mistakes the previous year and wanted to try to get a gold glove if I could (or at the very least cut down on the 7 errors from the previous year). Fielding stats are at or near 80 right now.

Yea I often do the R2 trick as well. My problem is my guy just lets the ball hit him in the face lol. Every once in a while Ill get a late jump though and just miss it and get tagged with an error.

For me playoffs was mostly luck I guess you could say I was on a crazy hotstreak going into the playoffs then just went ice cold. Im pretty sure even if I had average batting stats in the post season, with my World Series performance I would have won Post Season MVP.

But I guess I showed up when it counted the most even if we lost.

Yeah, I got "hit in the face" 5 times in the previous season. Had a 70 fielding with +6 from equipment during that year. I can handle an occasional error where I'm charging a grounder and miss it. That happens in real life. Also, if I'm running full out and just miss the ball at the end of the run, that's acceptable. I just hate when I run to the right spot, stand under a fly ball for a second or more and it still hits me in the head. That happens like once a year in all of baseball and usually to someone like Jose Canseco who was an awful fielder.

I spent all my spring training points on fielding and am almost up to 85. Hopefully this silly stuff happens less now. If it keeps happening, I think I'll write a nasty letter to SCEA filled with a tiny army of angry emojis.

Good luck with it lol. My fielding was somewhere in the 80's and it happened to me a few times last season. Worst part is then I usually cant find the ball so that just makes matters worse. Oh well I can laugh about it after it happens luckily it hasnt happened in a close game yet.

Re: Official MLB 16 : Road to the Show Thread

Spring Training is over! (I play every game in ST as well) I had a very very very good spring training I think I had 10 + home runs.

I am a lot more confident in this teams potential going forward I am going to have to step up from being a 26 HR/91 RBI guy though. Thinking I will need to get close to doubling that to cover Posey but more so Belt's regression. Its looking like I will be the 3 hitter for most of the time where as last season I bounce between 1-4.

I think with my improvements though and the team still being enough intact we can make a serious run. I just cant have too many cold streaks. It seemed in Spring Training days I had a bad game we generally lost. Days I had a good game we generally won by 3+.

Pitching will need to be good and hopefully age doesnt catch up to these guys this year. I dont know if MLB The Show accounts for catcher's knee's but hopefully Posey's knee's hold out for 1 more year.

Im not to sure how arbitration wooks but if I can maintain my spring training success the team got a huge discount on me, but thats ok as long as we win.

Minor thing but it bugs me - why is the clock in the dugout showing 3:00 every time they show it, no matter what time the game starts?

What's everyone's bb% and k% at? Mine is about 6% now for walks and 16% for strikeouts.

I understand the issues that people have with showtime, but I just got serious about my RTTS this week, and I must say it is pretty fun to use. The showtime throwing mechanic has made playing shortstop more enjoyable too. I was not expecting to enjoy it this much.

I love the Show Time feature. I dont use it for batting mainly because I suck at it lol. But I use it on occasion for fielding and I really enjoy the throwing part of it. I loved it when I played short stop but I moved to the outfield for team needs and dont get to use it as much.

Yea, it is a little awkward for batting, but I kept trying it and have gotten better. It has also helped me to draw more walks. How do you like playing outfield? I am thinking about switching to centerfield. I just love getting outfield assists.

Well I'll start with saying shortstop is my favorite in this game then 2nd base. But centerfield is probably my 3rd favorite I played left field for a while but center is more fun IMO. Outfield does take some time getting used to.

I have yet to rob a homerun though. I have gotten close a few times though.

Ha ha. Yea, I have seen this happen a few times in Mlb 14 and 15 too. Poor Phillies. Correct me if I am wrong, but in real life a pitcher would not be classified as a reliever or closer at the time they are drafted. Pitchers are just pitchers and they move them around to see who is best suited to be a starter, reliever, etc., and eventually they settle into a particular role. Of course the higher draft picks are expected to be starters. It would be cool if the game better replicated how it works in real life.

That's funny because in my RTTS I am a CP for the Phillies. I'm now in the year 2020. I was originally drafted by the Boston Red Sox early in the 2nd round as an 18 year old out of high school. The Sox traded me to the Phillies not long before I made my MLB debut. The Phillies are still pretty bad at this point so I'll be looking for a new team in several years when I hit FA. I've gone from a 49 overall to a 79 overall in those five years which has been difficult as a closer because of the fact that you don't get a lot of training points. It's a fun challenge, however. I played on what's equivalent to all-star difficulty in the minors and what's equivalent to HOF difficulty in the majors which seems to be perfect for me because I've gotten very realistic results. Having a blast.
