Re: MLB 16 Franchise Progress Thread

Started up a Cubbies franchise, currently sit at 3-0. Using dynamic difficulty with the slider set at quick bump up. Right now pitching is pretty close to allstar/ hitting is on veteran. The scores have been a little lob-sided in my favor, lots of homeruns, Shwarber has 3, Rizzo 2, and others. Lots of strikeouts for my pitchers, Lester and Arrieta were both easily in the double digits against the Angels. Lackey had 5 against the D-backs, whom I have the next three games against, sending out Hendricks and Hammel, then back to the top of the rotation. In one of those games I'll be facing Grienke.
Liking a few of the subtle new additions, Lyons chimming in with some new commentary here and there. I also like the new morale element, its kinda buried in one of the roster menus, but once you get the player card up you can cycle right to it. It is now important to make sure your player is at least satisfied with his role and other factors, if he is happy he will get a boost in his rating throughout the season, this is great in terms of giving you a better chance of winning in my opinion......

It is the start of June, and the Jays are 30-24, which leaves them 2.5 games back of the 32-21 Yankees for first in the division. The team has made a significant deal, trading SP RA Dickey, RP Ryan Tepera and a D minor leaguer to the Texas Rangers for LF Josh Hamilton, LF/3B Ryan Rua and SP Chi Chi Gonzalez. This trade benefits both teams. Texas needed a quality 5th starter and wanted Hamiltons 3yr/75M contract off the books. The Jays, who were looking for another bat (rumoured for Bruce, Lucroy, Soler) decided to take the risk on Hamilton. He will backup all 3 OF positions and possibly be a nice fallback option if the Jays loose EE and/or Bautista this offseason. Hamilton may even be asked to play 1B next year if he can learn it in ST. In order to entice such a financial commitment, Texas also had to part with prospects Rua and Gonzalez who will help possibly set up another deal come trade deadline day.

The Jays were also rumoured to be in the market for a top of the rotation starter. With the trade, Dalton Pompey is now expendable and could be packaged with another prospect and possibly Drew Hutchinson for a top quality arm. Until then, it looks like Toronto will stay put for the next month and a half and re-evaluate after the All-Star break. To replace Dickey, they called up newly signed Miguel Gonzalez who has been impressive since the call-up, only allowing 1 run in 13.1 innings (2 starts) for the Jays. Also, Devon Travis was activated form the DL and Zack Walters was sent to AAA to get everyday at-bats. The team claimed INF Andres Blanco off waivers from the Phillies. He was stuck in AAA and the team wanted him off of the 40 man roster. He will backup the INF for the Jays. Here is the rest of the hitters and their stats! (Pitchers will be in next update):

Great write up brother! Why are you carrying three catchers on the MLB level? Wouldn't Pompey or Rua be a better asset on the bench instead of the third Catcher? Looking forward to your next update

Hey man! Thanks for the reply. Well Montero was strictly a bat vs LHP, not actually catching. Almonte has been activated from the Dl (suspension) so Montero was sent down to AAA and broke his leg in his first game so he is now out a couple months lol. Pompey has been terrible. I sent him to AAA and I am giving Alford a shot vs. AAA pitching for now.

We won 2/3 vs. The Astros, but are currently 0-2 vs. The Marlins and 4 games back of the Yankees. Let's hope we can pull it together. Stay tuned for next update. It will include the pitching rosters/stats and hopefully a few more wins haha

I'm 5-0 with my Astros. Brung in Thor and Steven matz off the mets. I'm looking for a young 1B and a top prospect C I could make a trade for. Any suggestion?

Just a game after the All-Star game and the only one to represent my team was Jaso who has been having a good season. Am on a 3 game losing streak and the fact that Longo, Souza, and Forsythe have all gone cold didn't help. I'm 6.5 games back from the Blue Jays but hold a 5 game advantage for the first wildcard spot.

Went up against the A's and my offense finally started to get going. We scored 7 runs and 3 of them were thanks to Young's three run homer. Longo also drove in 2 runs on a double and a single. Moore was solid only struck out 3 and just went 7 innings since his pitch count was getting up there. Now we are only 5.5 games behind the Jays and have a 6 game advantage for the first wildcard spot.

Re: MLB 16 Franchise Progress Thread

The Marlins remain inconsistent to start June, going 7-8 so far, but at least two of those wins came off the Mets to slow down their climb towards the Marlins a bit.

The Mets had closed to within 6 games, but got pushed back to 7 after losing 2 of 3 to the Marlins. The lead is up to 8 games despite the Marlins winning just one of three so far from the Yankees.

The pitching staff is settling back down it seems, but the bats are now cooling off. Harper and Davis are trending back down lately with Yelich also doing the same. Bo Winter is the only one still hot as can be in the middle of the order. Everyone else in the lineup is the same old hit-or-miss (mostly miss) proposition, with Chris Taylor nearly under .220.

Speaking of Taylor, the Marlins might be nudging towards making a switch. The team loves Taylor's defense, which remains at a very high level at second base, but Les Carlyle has made his way to the majors. He's a promising infield prospect, likely to settle in at second base given his arm.

For now, Taylor remains the starter with the hopes he can get back to his .270-ish form.

Stan Brito, the team's young 3B, was perhaps facing the same situation...until Niko Goodrum got the chance to start and promptly made 3 errors. Goodrum is still around, but Brito and his slick fielding and canon arm will be at the hot corner.

Too many negative things about carryover franchises. I'll probably just start a new Sox franchise hoping they get the carryover fixed by 17

So I'm kind of facing a dilemma right now. I only ever (seriously) do one franchise, my carry over save, but I'm starting to lose a little interest in it. I'm not sure if it's because of the carry over issues or because my team is too stacked and it's kind of not really challenging anymore. Probably a combo of the two. But at the same time, I REALLY don't want to throw it away after all the time I've committed to it.

Meanwhile, I started a new Jays franchise at first for funsies. I traded EE, Devin Travis and Drew Hutchison for Cory Kluber, Ben Revere, a bench quality corner infielder and two quality prospects. While I wouldn't say the team is better, it's certainly more balanced with Stro and Kluber slotting 1 and 2 in my rotation, and I still have a power alley with Donaldson, Bautista, Tulo, Collabello, Martin.

A part of me wants to switch over, but I kind of don't want to do spring training again (just finished it in my carry over) and I loath simming.

I feel like the answer to this question is already inside of me, I just need a sounding board to help bring it out. Which should I do?

IMO the fact that you started a fresh franchise and didn't dive right into your carryover for one reason or the other tells me that you have very little interest in it and are looking for a new franchise experience.
