Re: MLB 16 Franchise Progress Thread

The Red Sox currently sitting at 5-4 after dropping 2 of 3 in Toronto and bouncing back to win 2 of 3 in Boston against the Orioles. Joe Kelly and Rick Porcello continued their bad starts as Kelly gave up 4 runs and walked 5 over 6.1 IP to take the loss against the Jays. The Red Sox currently have given up the league's second most home runs in 14 over 8 games with the youngster Eduardo Rodriguez taking the brunt of that number with 3 HR's allowed. The team's ERA currently sits at 3.35 which is good for 12th best in the league, but is boosted with a 1.17 ERA by David Price, and the next lowest is 4.09 held by Clay Buchholz. This led GM Dave Dombrowski to pick up the phone and start making some calls on starting pitchers.

The first domino fell when the Red Sox and Reds agreed on a 4 player trade sending SP Raisel Iglesias (81) to the Sox. Cincinnati in the middle of a rebuild gets SP Roenis Elias (76), Aaron Wilkerson (57) and Rusney Castillo (73). Castillo had been hitting .399 with 1 home run and 9 RBI's in the first 10 games of the season with the Pawtucket Paw Sox. He will start his Reds career in Triple A.

With the struggles of both lefties in the Red Sox bullpen, Robbie Ross and Tommy Layne, they were interested in getting a top notch lefty. Jake McGee was a valuable trade chip for the Colorado Rockies after coming over in a trade this summer from Tampa Bay. He was expected to be traded at the deadline once Colorado fell out of contention in a tough NL West. The Rockies sent Jake McGee to Boston in exchange for high profile pitching prospect Henry Owens (74, B), Catcher Ryan Hanigan (71) and 2B Josh Rutledge (72). Owens figures to be in the mix immediately for the Rockies rotation which is lacking some firepower, but he will debut for the Rockies in Triple A Colorado Springs.

Joe Kelly after consecutive awful starts and a refusal to accept a bullpen role has led to his departure as the Red Sox unloaded Kelly along with Edwin Escobar (69, B) and Trey Ball (61, B) in exchange for Julio Teheran. A solid return for the Braves as they get two good young pitching prospects to develop and a starter to step in immediately.

The Work is not done for the Red Sox however, as they now have Rick Porcello in a long man role out of the bullpen unless they can find a home for him. Pablo Sandoval is hitting .500 in limited action with 1 RBI and has had scouts from multiple (Brewers DBacks, Padres) teams checking him out. The Padres are rumored to be interested in acquiring Kung Fu Panda in a deal structured around sending the bad contract of Matt Kemp to Boston. In corresponding moves, the Red Sox have option SP Steven Wright and RP Robbie Ross to Triple-A Pawtucket. To fill the open roster spot vacated by Ryan Hanigan, the Red Sox have recalled C Christian Vazquez from Pawtucket.

Phillies win game 2 of the season against the Reds. The offense continued to stay ice cold, only managing a few hits and no runs going into the 9th inning. The Phillies went 17 innings to start the season without scoring a run. An RBI groundout from Peter Bourjos in the 9th tied the game to finally put the Phillies in the run column. Ryan Howard led off the top of the 11th with a walk which was then followed by Cameron Rupp demolishing a ball for a go ahead 2-run home run! Jeanmar Gomez closed it out in the bottom of the 11th for his first save of the year. Phillies win 3-1.

Marlins bats finally show up a bit. Coming into the game having lost 5 of 6, the Marlins were being shut out through five innings.

But they came through with a 3-run outburst in the 6th to take a 3-2 lead. Harper added a home run, off Bastardo no less, to make it 4-2.

Luis Heredia gave up back-to-back HR in the first but literally no hits after that, but was lifted in the 5th as part of that rally. Michael Mader came on in long relief and was masterful. He pitched 2 perfect innings, helped in the 6th by three straight defensive plays by 3B Brito, the last one a dive to stop a ball heading down the line, and then he showed off that cannon for an arm to get the last out.

Leone closed things down later for his 26th save of the season.

Won opening day 9-1. Started off slow, but we picked up momentum late.

Game two, again we started slow but picked it up and took a 6-0 lead. Had to save, but 6-5 top 7th...these Indians got to Porcello.

Me too. I wish I could do an actual franchise thread, but don't have the time to play every game and post about it. I enjoy this thread to talk about my franchise every now and then.

Re: MLB 16 Franchise Progress Thread

The Cardinals saw their 5 game winning streak end with a 7-3 loss to the Diamondbacks in Arizona.

Lance Lynn got off to a rough start allowing 6 runs in the first inning. He would settle down from there and wind up pitching 5 innings, but unfortunately the damage was done. Lynn wound up with 4 walks and 3 k's as he saw his record drop to 2-1 and his 0.00 ERA soar to over 3.

The Cardinals had their opportunities in the game to do damage but left 12 runners on base when all was said and done. In the very first inning the Cardinals had men on 2nd and 3rd with one out only to watch Moss pop out to Goldschimdt and Grichuk strike out. In the 5th the Cardinals had bases loaded with 0 outs only to push across two runs on a single by Holliday. Speaking of Holliday, he was the lone bright spot going 3-4 on the night with 2 RBI's and a double. The only other run would come in the 8th when Grichuk launched his 3rd homerun of the season to make it a 7-3 ball game.

John Mozeliak is said to be close to making the call to send Matt Adams down to Memphis and calling up Jeremy Hazelbaker. Matt Adams continues to struggle as he has struck out 5 times in his last 6 at bats. The Cardinals who typically don't make roster moves, outside of injuries, until May, are more than likely going to make this move before their weekend series with the Nationals at Busch Stadium.

In other news around the league, the Mets have traded for Coco Crisp sending 3B prospect David Mendoza to the A's in exchange. Also, the Phillies and Blue Jays made a trade as the Jays sent SP Brenden Linden to the Phillies for C Carlos Ruiz. The Jays are using Ruiz as a backup instead of calling up Top 50 prospect Max Pentecost.

The NY Yankees have come out of the gate 2-4. After winning their opening day game vs the Astros behind Tanaka, they went into a spiral for 4 straight games. During that span the team could not hit it's way out of a barn. We are talking a team BA barely scratching .160

Enter game 3 of a 3 game set vs the Tigers in Detroit. The Yankees in the top of the 1st had 4 straight hits to begin the game including a 2R HR by Brett Gardner. 4-0 after 1. In the 4th inning they would put up another 3 behind a 3R wall scraper from Carlos Beltran. The ended up winning 9-2 behind a complete game from...you guessed it Tanaka. 13 hits total after combining for 9 hits in the last 3 games.

The Yankees look to build upon this as they head back to the Bronx for a 3 game set vs the Blue Jays.

                      CARDINAL UPDATE

The St.Louis Cardinals have optioned 1B Matt Adams to Memphis and recalled OF Jeremy Hazelbaker.

Matt Adams who struggled during Spring Training and the first three weeks of the season has been sent down to Memphis to try and work on his mechanics and get his swing back. Matt wasn't too pleased with the move but should benefit from being in an everyday lineup as he works to find his swing again.

With the open roster spot, the Cardinals recalled OF Jeremy Hazelbaker to become the 5th outfielder in the rotation. The Cardinals who opened the season with Moss as potentially the 5th outfielder, have now decided that with Moss swinging a hot bat and playing well at first that they needed to find a 5th outfielder. Hazelbaker comes up, he just missed the roster out of Spring, after hitting .323 in Memphis with 4 homeruns and 15 RBI. Hazelbaker is expected to join the club in Arizona as they play the final two games of a 4 game set with the Diamondbacks before returning to Busch stadium for a weekend series with the Nationals.

In other Cardinal news, Johnny Peralta is expected to rejoin the starting lineup when the Cardinals do return home to play the Nationals this weekend. Perralta has been benched with a sprained finger he suffered after a diving attempt in the first inning of game 1 of the series with Arizona.

Through May 14th of the 2017 season the Rays stand at a surprisingly 28-10 and leading the AL East by 7 games. This was a bit of a shocker as the Rays were not considered to be a playoff team this year by the experts but somehow this group of guys have come together and are playing good baseball.

Chris Archer is leading the league with 6 wins, Steven Souza Jr. is in a three way tie for most home runs with 11, and Relief pitcher turned Closer Jonny Venters is leading the league in saves with 17.

Even though most of the Rays players are having a decent season third baseman Evan Longoria is not. In 36 games he's only hitting .160 with 4 home runs and 15 RBI's. There was talk in the offseason of maybe trading away Longo since he's getting older and his abilities will only start to decline but the front office just couldn't part ways with him.

In My Mets Franchise, we are in first place on June 28th, 5 Games up on the Nationals.

                          The Highs:
Thor and Matz are 2 of the 3 early Cy Young Candidates. They are tied for the league lead in wins with 9. Matz is second in ERA wit a 2.10.

Young Bats are stepping up. D'Arnuad is hitting close to .300 with 11 HR. Conforto is Producing in the 3 whole hitting about .300 with 12 Hr

                          The Lows:
Granderson only hitting .250 with 5 HR in the leadoff spot. Wright and Cespedes are also batting in the .260's, but have good power numbers (Cespedes with 17 HR)

Considering a Trade...I checked what I could get for Matt Harvey (Using OSFM Rosters). Yankees willing to send Aaron Judge, Greg Bird and Jorge Mateo for the Dark Knight. Feels wrong trading Harvey but with my current pitching, that haul sets my offense for years to come. So tempted, but I don't think I can trade Harvey and his 2.8 ERA...The deadline is only one month away.

Going to re-create the Colabelo suspension in my franchise. I have replicated every other one so far so it wouldn't be fair not to do it for my team. Colabello was bating .286 with 11 Hr and 24 RBI and was expected to compliment Vogelbach at 1B. It seems Susac will take over platoon duties for now and it is expected that the Jays will sign Michael Bourn who will be a nice speed/defensive player off of the bench. Josh Hamilton could be a solution for September if he plays well at 1B in AAA. Until then I will roll a Susac/Rua combo against LHP at 1B or give Bourn/Almonte extra reps while sticking EE or Bautista occasionally at 1B.

Looks like the trade deadline has passed and the Jays will not make any further moves on the trade front. They have lost 2 in a row (2 frustrating heart breakers) and now sit 2.5 back of a wild card spot. They will need to have a very good August and September.

                            Stay Tuned.

Started things off on a wonderful L7, lovely indeed. Managed to get a nice 5-2 win in game 8 to push things to 1-7.

Glass half-full: Hey, what's the big deal? You rip off 4 or 5 in a row, win 8 of 10 or something, you can still get to 12-10, 16-14, something like that, no problem.

Glass half-empty: Could be looking at a debilitating 5-20 type of start here. Better be careful.

Mike Pelfrey vs. Jameson Taillon (PIT) tonight as we go for two in a row.

Started off 4-2 with the Phillies. I just swept the Mets. My bullpen has been solid, not so much my starters. Franco started off a little slow but has a home run in back to back games. Onto a 4 game series with the Padres.
