Re: MLB 16 Franchise Progress Thread

The Marlins and Reds AGAIN go down to the wire.

This game was an absolute pitcher's duel. It was still 0-0 through 8 with only 3 hits COMBINED by both teams.

Rondon blinked first as he gave up a HR in the 9th.

Marlins had to, once again, rally off Chapman. And, again, they succeeded. With two outs in the 9th, Russel Parrott came through once again against lefty pitching to tie the game with a base hit.

The Reds take the lead again in the 11th as the defense helped cause issues. Score is 2-1.

In the bottom half, Chris Taylor is hit by a pitch and then he steals second. Yelich gets walked. Brito just missed a pitch but ends up with an infield fly rule called for the first out. Russel Parrott comes up again - and one more time comes through, this time against a RHP. Taylor scores from second to tie the game. Bo Winter wants to wipe out his 0-for-3 game and got ahead in the count 3-1 but was then hit in the back with a pitch.

That loaded the bases for Bryce Harper and only one out. Harper might have been looking for a fly ball, but instead he hits a sharp single into right field to bring in the winning run. Marlins win 3-2 in 11 innings.

Luis Heredia rebounded from a couple slow starts to pick up 11 Ks in 7 innings of work. Former Marlins prospect Justin Nicolino pitched one inning better, going 8 2/3 scoreless before being pulled in the 9th.

Cardinals dropped Game 2 to the Pirates 5-1 as Gerrit Cole dominated the Cards. Cole went 8 innings before giving up a leadoff double in the 9th and being lifted for Tony Watson. Although he had a 5-1 lead, Cole was sitting at 113 pitches when he was taken out.

Michael Wacha pitched fairly well giving up 1 run in 5 innings but was taken out in the 6th due to discomfort in his elbow. Trainers have diagnosed it as an Elbow Sprain and he will possibly miss a start. Cardinals haven't yet sent him to DL as they hope the injury doesn't linger that long.

The bats were quiet with the lone run coming from a Jedd Gyorko solo homer in the 6th which made the game 3-1 at the time. The Pirates would tack on 2 more thanks to a 2 run homer by Josh Harrison.

The series finale is today on Mother's Day. Mike Leake will face off with Francisco Liriano.

        Astros Wheel and Deal

The Houston Astros made some more moves just at the end of Spring Training, as they acquired Johnathan Lucroy is exchange for Jason Castro and Jon Singleton.

They bolstered the starting rotation by acquiring Tyson Ross for Jake Marisnick, Francis Martes and a C prospect. Ross has been shaky at best in his first three starts for his team accruing 14 BBs in 16 innings to go along with 12 strikeouts. Hopefully, he can settle down for the team. The Astros started off 7-1 after getting a hot start from Jose Altuve (.412, 1 HR, 8 RBI, 8SB). The team then has gone on to lose three of its last 4 games after rough starts from Dallas Keuchel, Doug Fister and Tyson Ross. Not exactly what the team had hoped for as Keuchel, their ace, has give up 10 runs in his last 10 innings of work, to drop him to 1-2 on the campaign. The lineup has been spotty at best, as George Springer started the season 2 for 32 with an abysmal average before picking it up as of late. Evan Gattis has been solid at the DH/OF position with 2 HRs on the season. Colby Rasmus has also been struggling as he is currently only hitting .211 with 1 HR on the year. Third Base has been a glaring hole, as Luis Valbuena has been awful at the plate, only hitting .143. The team is reportedly considering a deal for a third baseman or promoting Tyler White, a minor league 1B by trade but also capable of playing 3rd to fill his spot. Another option would be to start Jose Miguel Fernandez at third. The International FA has been solid in reserve duty and spelling Altuve and Correa, hitting .287 with 3 RBI's on the year.

Doug Fister will be sidelined for 5 days with a black eye after taking a comebacker to the face off the bat of Salvador Perez in his last start. Luckily he will avoid a long absence, unlike Yasiel Puig from the Dodgers who tore his Labrum in his second at-bat of the year for the Dodgers. Also ending their season was Gregor Blanco, who suffered a fractured ankle in the same game.

The silent surprises of the Astros so far have been RP Mike Fiers and 1B Ben Paulsen. The former starter now the long man in the Astros Pen has compiled a 1.98 ERA in 17 innings of relief. Paulsen who was acquired for three minor leaguers at the end of the spring is hitting .264 with 2 HRs and 5 RBIs.

Starting my franchise with my favorite team, the Pirates.

Plan on playing all 162, QC Off, HOF pitching, and starting at All Star hitting, using OSFM V2.5.

Excited to get going, and will post some updates along the way!

Hey guys, didn't want to start a new thread discussing the typical 'what team should I use' question.

I promised myself I would just play with whatever team I randomly landed on. I ended up with Houston. At first, I was pumped, but I'm the type that's never been comfortable playing with a really good team unless I personally built it. I guess I just want somebody to tell me to go for it. The way baseball playoffs go, there's never a sure thing anyway.

              Go for it.

You could always make some "interesting" moves. Not like baseball teams always field an optimal roster or use players optimally all the time.

Cardinals win in walkoff fashion on Mother's Day!

Matt Carpenter made his Mother proud today with his walkoff double in the bottom of the 11th to defeat the Pirates 2-1. Kolten Wong had singled and was on first with one out. Tommy Pham struck out pinch hitting for Kevin Siegrist. Matt Carpenter came to the dish with 2 outs and Wong on first and took a 3-0 high fastball and placed it into the left center gap for the walkoff double.

Mike Leake finally performed to the level that the Cardinals were hoping to get when they invested in him in the offseason as he went 7 innings giving up 1 run on 5 hits and struck out 8. The only downside was Leake did allow 4 walks in that span, two in the 3rd that cost him his only earned run.

Matt Holliday extended his hitting streak to 13 games with a solo homer in the 6th to tie the game at 1-1. Francisco Liriano had been rolling along and never was really in trouble when Holliday planted a 2-2 fastball into the right field stands. It was Holliday's 7th homer on the year.

The Cardinals are off on Monday as they make the trip out West to face the Angels for 3 games. Carlos Martinez, returning from back issues, will toe the rubber in the series opener.

31-21 in year two with the Cubs on 15. I'm finally getting the hang of the game. Over 50 games in now, should I carry over 15 as soon as franchise gets a patch or wait until I finish this season?

Re: MLB 16 Franchise Progress Thread

Just had perhaps my best game ever.

                        - Mets starter (Gee) threw over 40 pitches to me in the 3rd inning
                        - Drew 7 walks, had to be my personal record.
                        - I made a silly two out field mistake that cost me a double play. Something I rarely mess up. Duda makes me pay with a grand slam. I'm having a great game and now we're down 6-4 going into the 6th
                        - 7th Rizzo hits his second homer of the game, 6-5 now.
                        - We get 2 more in the 8th to take the lead.
                        - 9th Rizzo hits a 3 run shot on a contact swing. We cruise to a 12-6 win.

32-21 tie for first with the Brewers who went to the series last year and lost to Baltimore.

Next up a series vs the NL leading Dodgers 35-20.

Also just had the draft and got a stud outfielder who may be able to play next season. Also a 2b only C potential but already a 72 over and decent ratings.

So I play 1 sim 5 and in the last 2 games I have had 2 walk off home runs.

First one was in the bottom of the 9th in a 1-1 game and Springer smashed it.

Second one in the bottom of the 14th inning Jose Altuve with the walk off. Won a 6-5 game. My bullpen was almost completely used too and I have a 13 man pitching staff.

Of course Doug Fister giving up 3 runs in the 2nd inning didnt help and he was out of there, Feldman came in and pitched great.

Keuchel has gotten off to a rough start, at least in W/L ratio. He is 0-3 but is having a good indivudal year.

Correa got off to a very VERY bad start and was batting below 200 around 170 until late April and has now turned things around very VERY fast, he is batting .283 with 4 home runs (All of which in the past week)

Tyler White unfortunately hasnt had the same start he had IRL but he is really my only MLB ready 1st baseman so he can have some time.

Castro is playing very well batting .396 and in the game I was talking about earlier that Altuve walked off on he hit the game tying home run in the bottom of the 9th.

Anyways the Astros sit at 11-7 half a game back out of first.

Rockies snap a three game losing streak, improve their record to 21-14, and gain a two game lead in the NL West thanks to Trevor Story's cluch go-ahead 2R HR.

(I almost cussed in excitement when I hit it but I caught myself last second)

Very rough start to the season for Nolan Arrenado, hoping he can snap out of it. Our bats, in general, were pretty quiet for the 4-5 games in a row prior to this one, was nice to put one out of the park again, finally.

I wanted a challenge so I started with the Phillies using OSFM 2.5. I simmed to today's date.

At home against the Indians, I was down 3-0 in the bottom of the ninth. Ryan Howard blasted a 2 run shot and then Galvis hit a 356 ft. HR to tie it. In the bottom of the eleventh, Howard did it again, hitting a solo shot that just stayed fair to walk off with the 4-3 win. Woo!

                              Edit:
At the end of May now. The Phils are 24-23 heading into a series in Wrigley-ville. Charlie Morton has a sub-2.00 ERA (it was at 1.40 in early May.) He will definitely be traded. I called JP Crawford up to AAA. His time is coming.
April: 12-12 month, 2.66 ERA for the team.

I started my Diamondbacks franchise, but I'm spending a lot of time trying to find comfortable settings for the gameplay. Directional batting/meter pitching, directional batting/classic pitching, etc. In years past, I'd go with classic pitching with timing batting. The past two years though, the directional batting doesn't feel right. I have no idea what to go with.
