A stacked team is an expensive team. I know once my ace gets out of his arbitration years, he's going to want $30 M a year and I'll probably give it to him because he's my boy and I "raised" him from MLB14's first draft class. So that gives me less to spend elsewhere. And that's just one top player. I keep trying to lock him up and he's like "nope".

I don't do the budget constraint as it's barely enough as it is so Boeve's new contract will probably force decisions.

I don't know - I think you can have fun with a stacked team - might have to be creative or maybe push forward until a lot of them are up for extensions?

I'll trade you my decently hot bats if you give me some actual pitchers. Never had the worst era before [emoji21]

Hmm KB I like the idea of a self imposed salary cap. I actually sort of do that already (company has to make SOME money) but I think I'm going to cue up the rebuild after this season, and try and get under the luxury cap. Think like "Every dollar I save this year is another I can spend next year" sort of thing yet still take 20% every year for profits off. I'm going to need a notepad.

Yeah - be like you're the owner taking a profit. Good way to look at it.

Notepad or set up a simple Excel spreadsheet to calculate your "cap".

The Marlins may have seen enough of Chris Taylor.

Reports are that he's been placed on the trade block. While the team would not confirm (or deny) these rumors, what is known is that Taylor has been optioned to AAA New Orleans "to work on the basics and get himself together".

Taylor was not hesitant to voice his displeasure.

"I can't believe this. Yeah, it's been a terrible season for me. Don't they think I know that? Do they think I want to play this bad? They leave that Brito kid up while he's hitting .220 and Campos batted .220 all year last year but I get the hook in June...not even at the All-Star Break? Ridiculous, " Taylor commented.

The Marlins will bring up Tim Anderson, a 27-year-old that hasn't seen much major league time. The defense should be close to what Taylor provided. The bat might not be as good as Taylor's in most years.

This year, though, it probably won't be any worse.

Taylor probably will be back, eventually, unless Anderson (or Carlyle) lights it up or Taylor continues to crumble even in AAA.

Steven Souza came out of his cold streak and had a big game against the Astros with a 6 RBI game 2 came off of a home run in the 1st and then a grand slam in the 5th. We have managed to chip away the lead the Jays have down to 4.5 games and he increased our lead for the #1 wildcard spot by 10 games.

Only played one game to this point. I play as the Yankees, and was facing the Astros. Had a very low offensive game to start the season with a pitching match up of Masahiro Tanaka and Dallas Keuchel. Both pitchers brought their A games. Both teams had 6 hits, and the only offense were solo home runs by A Rod and Chase Headley. Tanaka went 7 innings with 6 hits and 0 runs. Andrew Miller pitched the 8th with no hits and no runs, Aroldis Chapman came on in the 9th for 2 strikeouts, 0 hits and 0 runs. Yankees win 2-0. Tanaka was player of the game.

I'm 5-3 with the Red Sox, I'll be playing the first and last games of series, and simming the middle game (or one of them in a 4 game series). I got blown out last night so I only played my at bats and simmed the pitching. I may start doing that.. if I'm up maybe 2 or 3 + I'll sim the batting, if I'm down 2-3 I'll sim the pitching. I think that way I could finish at least a season maybe a few!

After waiting for OSFM, I couldn't resist, so I took a cue from most guys here and started my Indians franchise last night. Downloaded Bacons v10 roster on '15 and simmed through 15 then transferred over to 16. Probably will run an NL franchise once OSFM drops.

Playing All Star with TNK's sliders.

Home opener vs the Red Sox turned into a pitching battle between Price and Kluber that went into the bottom of the 12th tied 0-0. Marlon Byrd hit a deep pop fly to right, scoring Naquin for the first win of 2016.

Look to go 2-0 tonight as Carrasco faces off against Bucholz.

Agh, Hanley Ramirez broke his arm making a diving play at first base.... VMart was on the trade block so I traded for him. Now I feel like I cheated, he was batting like .365 with 3 HR through two weeks of the season.

Marlins catcher Lindsay Robertson returned from the DL after a 3-month stint.

The first thing the Marlins did was place him on the active roster. The second thing they did was place him on the trade block.

Rumors are that the catcher is not happy about the time-share situation behind the plate. The Marlins tried to keep both satisfied and in the flow of the game with a platoon/50-50 split behind the plate. Tommy Cruz, the other man in the pair seems content with the situation, but Robertson was unhappy.

Seeing how the team doesn't see any other out for the situation, since Cruz is just as effective offensively with a very strong arm, they placed Robertson on the block.

Trading Robertson might make sense as well from the standpoint of filling holes. While the Marlins roster is relatively solid, the problems occurring up the middle offensively are a constant distraction. Jose Campos just might not be everyday material at the plate, and Chris Taylor's struggles are known. Tim Anderson isn't doing much better and there's not much else at SS either.

Perhaps Robertson could bring in more help for the middle infield, either now or a good prospect.

Robertson is 23 years old and has a .286 average in two full seasons plus some brief stints when he was in his teens. He has 52 HR in 1201 career ABs and runs well and has 40 stolen bases.

Re: MLB 16 Franchise Progress Thread

Well that didn't take long. As soon a Robertson hit the block, the Blue Jays with an offer that the team received after winning 5-3 over the Cardinals that afternoon.

Robertson and a couple midlevel prospects will head to Canada in return for a prospect SS Patrick Brandt and a couple declining veterans to even out the salaries exchanged.

Brandt, 20, has refined defensive skills, some mobility on the bases, and looks to be a Yelich-style contact hitter - high average, gap power type. He does better against left-handed pitching and there's some concern about how well he'll be able to handle RHP going forward, but most are optimistic he could become at least average and be a serious vs LHP threat in the process.

What home run power he has will likely come against LHP. That's where he's shown it thus far and his swing is more fluid and confident vs LHP.

Brandt is probably a year away, so Campos is safe for now. This won't change much in the Taylor saga as Brandt will probably remain at SS since he has the range and arm for it already with projections to improve.

Tommy Cruz becomes the everyday catcher. Andrew Susac, who was signed after Robertson went down with an injury, returns to the majors for backup duty.
