Not looking like anyone is gonna stop us as we keep on rolling towards the playoffs. 29-17 since the All Star break. 3rd best record in the Majors at 82-53 (Pirates and Cubs tied at 84-50). 17.5 games ahead of Chicago in the central. We are 18-4 against our division since the all star break. And 41-14 overall. We have 21 more games against them this month so its probably safe to say we will win 95+ games. I dont know what the record is. But we have to be close. The 01 Mariners didnt even dominate their division this much.
Standings
Pitching didnt improve really. We have given up 3.8 runs per game since the break. All the starters took a step back but we are sticking with what we got for now. Even though a couple guys have been pretty bad. Jordan Lyles was the best over that stretch. 6-1 over the last 9 starts with a 3.20 ERA and 1.34 WHIP in 56.1 IP. Yordano Ventura is is 3-0 (thanks to the offense) in 9 starts. With a 4.58 ERA and 1.47 WHIP in 53 IP. Mike Minor has been pretty bad. 0-2 in 9 starts with a 5.37 ERA and a 1.44 WHIP in 52 IP. Duffy and Gee have been almost identical. Both gave up 22 runs in 52.2 IP and 51.2 IP. They are 5-8 with a 3.80 ERA in 104.1 IP over 19 starts combined. Bullpen has improved though. We did call up Steve Miller and he has been great. In 18.2 IP he has a 0.48 ERA and 0.91 WHIP. Joakim Soria has his ERA down to 2.74 and WHIP at 0.88. Kelvin Herrera has been our best relieve since the break. He has an ERA of 1.59 and WHIP of 1.15. Wade Davis has struggled a bit. ERA is up to 2.28. WHIP is still good at 0.99. He leads the majors with 51 saves. Next closest is Reds closer Willy Cordero (drafted in 2016) with 42.
Offense though did improve despite Alex Gordon missing 6 weeks with an injury. Lorenzo Cain stepped up after the injury and provided some lost power. After having just 3 HR in 77 games he has 5 in his last 40. As of now he has career highs in AVG(.307), OBP(.371) and SLG(.478). He has also set a career high with 35 SB and 12 3B. And should set a career high in WAR. He is at 6.00 right now. His high is 6.25. Oh and he has 1 error in 1018 innings. Team MVP by far. Jackson Yates still improving on his slow start to the year. Now hitting .279/.355/.463 with 18 HR and 62 RBI. Christian Colon is hitting .292/.356/.385. And has forced Alcides Escobar to the bench as he is hitting just .196/.233/.263. The rookies have bounced back after a couple rough months. Mondesi is hitting .250/.306/.388 with 7 HR. And Balbino is hitting .255/.307/.418 with 7 HR. We brought up "2 Hit" Whit Merrifield when Gordo went down. And he has filled in extremely well. In 37 games he has hit .277/.328/.479 with 6 HR. His ability to play all over the field has helped get some more guys rest as well. Mike Moustakas has 26 HR on the year. He is 11 away from the Royals record. Doubt he gets it but its possible. no one has had 30 HR for us since Jermaine Dye in 2000.
27 games left in the season. 17 of those at home. 13 of those against teams int he central. Our Magic number is 11. Almost impossible for us to lose the division at this point. Just need to stay healthy and figure out the 4 guys we will be throwing out there come October.
