Re: MLB 16 Franchise Progress Thread

I'll try and keep this short...

World Series Game 3 in Boston
    Porcello vs Ryu
I managed to win this one 6-4

    Game 4 in Boston
    ERod vs Pomeranz(traded him, obviously)
Both guys pitched great but I took the loss after Corey Seager hit a 2-run homer in the 10th off a flat Kimbrel curveball.

    Game 5 in Boston
    Sale vs Kazmir
Sale no-hit into the 7th(1 walk) until giving up his first hit.
I won this game, forgot the score though.

    Game 6 in LA
    Price vs Kershaw
These 2 were pretty even. Both gave up 7 hits, Price went 8IP, Kershaw went 9IP. The Dodgers got a run on me after a safe call at first on a would be double-play to end the inning. I had some opportunities to score like runner on 2nd with no outs and triple with 1 out but just failed to score. Dodgers win 1-0
This was a tough loss to swallow after failed scoring opportunity.

On to Game 7 in LA with the series tied... Porcello vs Maeda
This is for all the marble folks.
    *fingers crossed

      I lost.

Let me get that out of the way...

I lost and it hurts, it really hurts.
It was a no contest too, let me splain. No let me sum up...

      Game 7, World Series
      Porcello vs Maeda
First inning Blue go up 1-0.
      Second inning, they're up 4-0
      Third, 5-0...

-My team made 3 fielding errors, Porcello, Benintendi and Betts. Betts' didn't cost me any runs but the others did.
-Their were 3 balls hit over the 1st/3rd base bags (hit by the Dodgers, of course) and one even hit the bag.
      -Porcello only went 2IP, 4R 1ER
-Kyle Kendrick made the team somehow by default, he gave up a solo shot to Gonzalez, that is his only World Series memory.
-Kelly gave me a couple clean Innings, kind of makes me want to resign him.

-Madea wasn't untouchable. I don't really know how I couldn't hit him, same with Kershaw. Stuff's hittable but no hits.

      Dodgers ended up winning 9-2
Justin Turner won World Series MVP, he hit .375 1HR 4RBI

*How is Franklin Gutierrez rated so high? His power is 88 and up, what? I believe they knocked him down a bit in an update but really?

So that's my 2017 season, just didn't go my way.
Their was apparently NO way Game 7 was gonna go my way.

I just wanted it to be competitive and I'm really disappointed that fielding errors, and bloopers were such a huge part on my losing the game.

      Really disappointed...

      (On to 2018...)

Man that is rough. To lose the World Series in Game 7 has got to be just brutal.

Here's to a repeat trip to October in 2018.

Re: MLB 16 Franchise Progress Thread

We have dropped back to back games against the Nationals. Tanner Roark completely shut us down for 8 innings. He was replaced to start the 9th after we strung a few hits together in the 7th and 8th and Holliday managed to breakup the shut out with a solo homerun. Also Roark was at 97 pitches after 8.

The next game we had 9-0 Michael Wacha on the mound, but he didn't have his best stuff as while he struck out 6, he walked 5 and gave up 4 homeruns. We had our chances to get back into the game, but we are in a funk where we cannot drive in runs with men in scoring position.

Next up is the series finale as Brett Anderson will faceoff with Andrew Cashner.

In other news, we have opted to send Jhonny Peralta down to Memphis until after the All-Star Break (which is roughly 2 weeks) and call up Aledmys Diaz. Peralta just continues to struggle, both at the plate and in the field. He committed his 8th and 9th errors in the last two games. Last year he had a total of 11. Also Peralta is only hitting .216 on the year. He hit .275 last year. Hopefully Diaz can provide us production at SS over the next 10 days or so. After the All Star game we will re-evaluate where we are and decide if additional roster moves are necessary.

            Thanks brother.
Amazing how a video game can pull such emotion out of you, I was drained yesterday lol.

I'm looking to add some missing pieces like another force in the middle of the lineup. Even though I already have good lineup, Bogaerts doesn't hit for power, Moreland did but is a FA. Hanley had a horrible year and can't be relied on. I can't just rely on Betts for power, he hit 42HR but I do expect a decline and he's my lead off hitter. Pedroia is aging but can still turn on one but not a ton and Beni isn't a big power threat. However JBJ take stepped up last year with 30+HR, I think I'll look to move him to the middle area of my lineup.
I'm looking for power at either 3B or DH/1B. Sam Travis will have a chance to win a job out of camp, despite not having a lot of power.

I'd also like to look into an upgrade at Catcher or at least back up catcher. All 3 just failed for me last year.
            I will need a 5th SP, preferably a righty.
I also need another lefty in the pen.
I need to resign some top guys as well including Sale and Kimbrel.
I think I will just drop Sandoval to the minors, if someone claims him great but if not he'll be an injury reserve player, I gotta pay him anyway right?

Re: MLB 16 Franchise Progress Thread

We are 2 games away from the All Star break and currently lead the Central by a game and a half over the Pirates.

Still deciding what rosters moves we need to make. Would like a right handed bat off the bench that has some pop but nothing on the market that interests me or is worth the asking price. I may try to see if we can fill this void in house over the next 10 days or so before the deadline.

Aledmys Diaz has made SS his own, hitting over .300 with a hr and 5 RBI since his call up. He's also been fantastic in the field.

With that being the case I may see what the market is for Peralta but I'm guessing it's soft, so I'll probably hang on to him just in case.

We are officially at the All Star break and hold a 1 1/2 game lead on the Pirates.

We have played well the last week and hope to continue that trend after the break. Our bullpen should be well rested as both Anderson and Martinez threw complete games in our last two.

Still deciding on roster moves and what to do with Peralta. Trade block pretty weak this year.

Next up is one of my favorite games to play, the Futures game

Here we go, 2018 season has kicked off, first series versus those damn Yankees.

Here are some changes to my Red Sox this year...

                  - Acquired Todd Frazier on a 1 year deal to man 3B and hit 5th.
                  - Acquired Josh Edgin as my 2nd lefty in the pen and SP Robert Gsellman for depth.
                  - Signed Marwin Gonzalez to play 1B and other infield positions, 1 year deal (Hanley's DHing)
                  - Signed SP Hisashi Iwakuma to be my #5 starter at 38 years old, 1 year deal.
                  - Resigned Sale and Kimbrel to 3 and 2 year deals, respectively.
                  - Signed Jefry Marte, Scott Van Slyke and Mike Freeman to work off the bench with Sandy Leon sharing catching duties with Blake Swihart.
                  - I outrighted Pablo Sandoval to AAA.

I think this year I will play every 5th game while quick managing the other 4, opposed to playing 1 game every series like I did last season.
I never get very far in my franchises, I'd actually like to play with some of my prospects in the major leagues this time around.

Played the Futures Game last night. I played as USA and won 7-4.

We had a pretty good roster:

                    Trevor Story
                    Alex Reyes
                    Andrew Benintendi
                    Sam Travis
                    Clint Frazier
                    Dansby Swanson

Next up is the All Star Game

Re: MLB 16 Franchise Progress Thread

The 2018 Spring Training has come to a close for the Oakland Athletics, and the season is ready to begin. The A's were a bit of a surprise last season, as they were in the Wild Card hunt all the way to the very last game. They finished the season with a 83-79 record and if they had won the final game of the season, they would have been playing for the Wild Card.

That is what the offseason was about. Getting over that hump. The Athletics made a few moves to try to bolster their roster to get ready for a real push this season. They traded for Jonathan Villar to help out at second base, a very sore spot for them last year as Jed Lowrie really struggled. They also made a trade for Julio Teheran to bolster their starting rotation, and they added Jonathan Broxton and Brandon Kintzler to their bullpen, which had a few sore spots. With those moves, the A's look to try to make a real push for the playoffs.

                      Here is your Depth Chart:

Looking at the minor league guys. Quintin Holdridge (a 2017 first round draft pick at first base) had a very solid spring, but the Athletics are going to wait and see how he does in Triple-A before giving him some true at bats in the majors. Franklin Barreto had a solid spring but he is still one step away. The A's also drafted a pitcher in the 2nd round last year named Juan Alvarez, he is a 71 overall, A potential prospect.

Juan Alvarez and Franklin Barreto made the Top 50 prospects list, Alvarez is at #11 and Barreto is at #29.

Played the All-Star Game. Lost 6-5. Very crazy game. Started out with 4 homeruns, 10 runs, and 3 errors combined in the first 4 innings. Then no other runs until nor errors until the 12th inning. Jean Segura would boot a routine double play ball that would've gotten us out of the inning, allowing the go ahead/game winning run to score. Then he would strike out to end the game in the bottom of the 12th.

Next up is the AAA all star game and then resume the season with a 3 game series vs the Mariners.

Still looking at what roster moves if any we need to make as the trade deadline inches closer.

                              Braves Franchise
Whale, whale, whale... don't ask me how, don't ask me why but the Braves are on the up. I've only played about 12 games (siming the rest) thus far but the wins just keep piling up. We bolstered our Rotation a little bit, bullpen struggles but we traded for a couple small pieces that are making a difference.

The deadline came and went and made a pretty big trade, getting Kang and Nova. Giving up Touissaint and Demeritte as the prospects but that's okay because we have depth at those spots. Jaime Garcia is unbelievable right now. Freddie is Freddie, Ripping the cover off the ball.

The All-Star festivities are now complete as I just finished the AAA all star game. Pacific Coast League defeated the International League 6-3.

Now its on to the 2nd half of the season and time to see what trades are made before the deadline.
