    Hmm....

Well Soler is definitely more moveable for me after I get Schwarber back in 2017. What about including a pitcher in the trade as well? Jason Hammel has had an incredible year for me. Maybe include him in a return engagement for Oakland.

If the A's are in a position to sell Gray then I doubt they are too interested in a 35 ish year old Hammel at least not in a way that they would pay anything substantial to get him.

It could work but I think it just adds complexity without doing anything for the trade

Re: MLB 16 Trade Discussion Thread

I'm in July 2016 with the Mariners (42-3, 1st in AL WC but there are 6 other teams within 1.5 games). Any comments on these two deals...

HOUSTON TRADES (42-38, 0.5 GB AL WC):
        Jason Castro, C (1 HR, 4 RBI/.208 AVG/.578 OPS)
        Jon Singleton, 1B (11 HR, 49 RBI/ .259 AVG/ .723 OPS in AAA)

        SEATTLE TRADES:
        Adam Lind, 1B (8 HR, 29 RBI/ .232 AVG/ .710 OPS)
        Steve Clevenger, C (1 HR, 16 RBI/ .214 AVG/ .573 OPS)

I get my starting catcher for the next few years in Castro (I can't hit with Zunino) and a former top prospect in Singleton who is buried on the depth chart behind AJ Reed and Tyler White. Houston gets a starting 1B in Lind for the rest of the year to buy more time for Reed/White to stay in AAA and take over next year. This also allows Valbuena(.735 OPS) to shift back to 3B and take over from struggling players in Bregman(.640 OPS) and Gurriel(.529 OPS). Clevenger is thrown in to take over the back up catcher job behind Gattis in Houston.

        CINCINATTI TRADES:
        Joey Votto, 1B

        SEATTLE TRADES:
        Jon Singleton, 1B
Tyler O'Neill, OF (top 100 prospect)

Not sure stats are relevant here. Cincinnati is rebuilding and gets a young 1B in Singleton they can give a shot too as well as a top 100 prospect in O'Neill.

        Thoughts?? Thanks!

You're pretty far off on the Votto deal. I know he's owed a lot of money but he's also playing at a very high level still. Singleton has little to no value realistically

Houston/Seattle deal doesn't make much sense. You rarely see teams trade withing division...especially when both are contenders

Re: MLB 16 Trade Discussion Thread

I realize this thread is all but dead, but here goes....

I finished my 1st season playing every game of my Padres franchise and I am looking into the possibility of dealing Wil Myers (1B/OF, 26 y/o, 79 OVR, B POT) for pitching in the offseason. I have a lot of outfield depth, but no pitching, and Myers has the most value out of any of my outfielders so it makes sense to explore it.

First off, here are 2016 stats for Myers...

              .247/.298/.473 | 21 HR 71 RBI | 9 SB | 1.5 WAR | 118 G (missed 1-2 months with a groin injury)

Essentially it's as if his "leap" this year IRL never really happened, but these stats are fairly well in line with his career norms from 2013-2015. And even though he had a significant injury, he still set career highs in games played and basically all of his counting stats. To summarize, I would be selling a bit low on him, but he should still have significant value to most of the league.

What I am trying to figure out specifically is if I could do an even swap for a young SP of this ilk: Taijuan Walker, Kevin Gausman, Lucas Giolito, Alex Reyes ?? All of those guys play for teams that could use a controllable 1B/LF with upside that can mash.

If any of this looks promising I could post more stats and we could discuss further...

I think Myers is too injury prone to net any of those top prospects/young, high-upside controllable arms. He was often injured from 2013-2015 and he got injured again during your 2016.

Fair point and thanks for the reply.

What sort of value do you think Myers has? Certainly being under team control for 3 more years (arb eligible) and being a middle-of-the-order bat when healthy carries some weight. Any thoughts on what pitchers could be had in your estimation, if not the ones I've suggested?

Just an idea...how about Julio Teheran? Kemp - Smith - NM is not the most ideal outfield in the whole world. Adding a potential middle of the order bat, and possibly another good prospect for Teheran would be intriguing.

I just don't see with how Myers is doing, as well as being injury prone, bringing in a young talented arm.

Yeah, I don't think I'm quite on the same page as you guys as far as the value of Wil Myers, but I do appreciate the feedback. Myers is one of the better young position players in baseball, cost controlled and so on. I see the injury bug as being more of a drag on his value as opposed to absolutely destroying it. His stats actually weren't all that bad. Sort of the sense I'm getting is people are more worried about the injury history as opposed to the upside potential. I'll probably set my sights a bit lower than the names I originally mentioned, but I feel like I should be able to land a fairly coveted arm for a player of Myers' caliber. Teheran is an interesting suggestion. That might be a good compromise.

I also still have Matt Kemp on my team, so the Braves' outfield is in slightly worse shape than you might think (Markakis/Smith/Olivera). They would certainly jump at the chance to pair up Freeman and Myers.

                      Please keep the suggestions coming!

This could be completely wrong and forgive me if it is; but if WTNY wanted to trade for Giolito specifically would including a big contract that Washington would like to see gone help, I.e. Jayson Werth or Ryan Zimmerman? Would that help offset the injury history if Myers because you're still getting a young team controlled middle of the order bat back and freeing up some money for your attempt at re-signing Harper in two years

Teams attach good prospects to bad contracts not elite prospects. Not many guys have the ceiling of a true #1 but Giolito does and I don't see how hes traded unless a bona-fide star is the return

Btw, thanks for the suggestions. I actually did settle on a Wil Myers for Julio Teheran structure. Both are 26 years old, have favorable contract situations, and have been up/down performance-wise or with injuries. Both have good pedigree. Also, going back to Teheran's asking price irl, it seems like a young impact bat was what the Braves were looking for. Myers fits that mold well.

I am away from the console right now, but I think Teheran's 2016 numbers were an ERA somewhere near 3.5 and a WAR somewhere in the realm of ~3. So he had a solid year.

Overall, I sent Wil Myers (stats on previous page) along with SP Colin Rea (26 y/o, 4.5 ERA, 2.7 WAR) and INF Jose Pirela for Teheran straight up. Rea will plug up a rotation spot for the Braves and Myers gives them a nice complement to Freddie Freeman. They signed Darwin Barney to play 2B, so Pirela just gives them another low rent option there.

Going into the offseason would it be possible for Blake Swihart to be traded to the division rival Blue Jays? Swihart didn't play 1 game in the MLB this year in my chise and put up mediocre numbers in AAA.

I would use him to play some OF with Bautista possibly leaving and he could even backup catcher in emergency.

I know I would have to give extra for the division tax but I might be fine with that to get him. What would it take? I could give them Smoak (20 hrs this year hitting .249) and maybe a low B prospect to sweeten it? Loosing Papi means they could use Smoaks power. I plan to re-sign EE so they won't be getting their hands on him as a replacement .

I like that trade for both teams involved. Makes sense to me. Excited to see your offseason moves!
